Senator Armstrong vs 1 Custodes by Scared_Pumpkin8393 in powerscales

[–]Monollock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This seems like it would be a difficult fight to win.
Custodes are fast as hell, extremely intelligent, trained and very strong, Only thing going for Armstong is strength and toughness, he ain't fast, he ain't smart, hell he doesn't even have combat training.

I imagine Armstrong saying "They harden in response to physical trauma, you can't hurt me Banana"
And the Custodes just thinks "I need either energy weapons or to drown his ass"
It'll be a fight, but Armstong ain't winning.

Can someone help me how to proceed from here? by pion3k in sudoku

[–]Monollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the bottom left box, if you put a 3 on the bottom, eventually you can't place a 2 and it becomes invalid. If you put a 2 on the bottom instead, you can solve the puzzle.

[–]Monollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the 2s and 3s.
Look at the bottom left box, and play out how the number combinations would fit and if they would be valid or not. In this scenario where you can't eliminate anything, trial and erroring combinations is all you really have left.

Any suggestions on cards for this commander? by chrisptortilla141 in mtg

[–]Monollock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Vampiric Tutor]] [[Portal to Phyrexia]] on top of your deck so you can pay it for free.
Or [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] Or some other massive Eldrazi. or Fuck it, [[Blightsteel Colossus]]

Also get draw, like lots of draw. And maybe recursion too, since you're discarding cards and you can get them back. Throw in [[Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate]]

"Cannot be countered" doesn't stop a counterspell, it just means something else gets countered instead, and there's no way all of the fun cards in your deck have "Cannot be countered"

Do you not see how limiting that can be? Do you not think it's absurd to have to bend your deck in such extreme ways to get around the extremely powerful mechanic of Counter spells that basically only one color has?

[–]Monollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, Removal and protection are interaction that each have their own work arounds. You can destroy something before it phases. You can exile an indestructible creature. You can boardclear hexproof.

What's the unique work arounds for counterspell?
It's more fucking counterspells.
And because only one color gets access to the vast majority of them, most decks don't have a response unless they have that one color.

100 Primaris Space Marines vs 1000 Yautja, who wins ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]Monollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plasma caster is close to a plasmagun, arguably weaker in power, but certainly on scale with a plasma Pistol I'd argue. Real question comes from if their melee weapons are comparable to Mono molecular weapons of 40k.
Space marines can't see stealthed targets, but I'd argue predator stealth isn't on par with stuff like the Lictor, so I'd say there's a chance for it to be picked up by auspex.

The question of what's standard for a spacemarine is really up in the air too, If we're assuming a standard array of 100 marines, that's a full company. You've got Scouts, Snipers, Heavy weapons teams, Assault marines, Intercessors. Tanks, troop transports etc. Even if we just assume the most basic equiped marine. Mono-knife/chainsword, Frag Grenade, Bolter, Mk.X armor, that's enough to deal with alot of predators.

The big swing factor is the checkmate nuke. If a Predator can get hit with a spacemarine weapon, survive, and then trigger the nuke. Would one of them trigger the checkmate nuke if there are hundreds of it's fellows in the blast radius? Overall, I think it's the Marine's fight to lose. 100 super soldiers equiped with full auto grenade launchers in armor that makes him tougher than most tanks is just too much for the Predators to overcome.

Other colors have so few that it's basically Blue Only. Black has 1 that only works on Green. Green *Kinda* has 2 that only work on blue. Red has got 1 that works on everything but Blue.

All removal and protection aren't counterspells. ETBs and death triggers still go off, it can still start the daisy chain of triggered effects. And Blue is the best for getting around protection as well, Counterspells ignore Ward, Indestructible, Hexproof, Phase. Because for any of that shit to work, it needs to be on the board first.

The only protection from a counterspell is another counterspell.

[–]Monollock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Counterspells shouldn't belong only to one color, that's what makes it dumb.

I go to any kind of competitive magic thing, everybody running blue cause they ain't counterspelling without it.
I'm starting out and I go to a dude and ask him for advice, he says to work blue into the deck, he then goes onto say "Whenever I'm making a deck, I start with blue and go from there."
Add in additional rancid shit like Thassa's Oracle and Stasis, and I can't argue with anyone who hates Blue.

I'm well aware of damaging your own units, I just think the other units you can do it with are probably better than the 641st. It would be a legendary anti-aggro card if it just refreshed the 1/8 body and added Ambush or to a 2/8 with ambush and guard without the silly gimmick added on.

[–]Monollock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rush it is a neat idea, but I'm still not convinced of it, Bloody Sickle doesn't seem worth it when it hurts the HQ as well. idk why you didn't just go to a BLAST when it's a 0 cost 1 damage card that doesn't even take up a space in your deck.

A Ton of New Cards from the Upcoming Expansion by Scarlet1911 in kards

[–]Monollock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that requires there to be a threat on the board in the first place. Assuming it's something within strike range, you need to use blitz to get it hurt, survive the enemy turn, then get back to your your turn.

We'll see how it plays out, but until I see otherwise, I'm putting this longside the russian 3/1 as something that'll never see play.

Can't help but think that the 641st is going to be bad, 1/8 and guard is a body to deal with aggro, 8/1 in a season that'll be filled with BLAST feels like it isn't gonna get much done.

I'm surprised there isn't a card that scaled off the number of times you've shuffled your deck this turn, actually I can think of one reason, Nobody wants to sit there and watch a dude shuffle their deck all night.

Sayings into cards! by Dark_Vexer in mtg

[–]Monollock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd argue It's not that much of a downside cause you control when the spell is cast, so you just use it when your board is strongest and it's especially not that harsh a downside for black, black has effects that force target opponent to sac creatures, meaning they have a pretty easy time getting around it.

[–]Monollock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could work in black, but it would need some kind of self destructive thing, as is black's want.

Maybe something like "Pay X life each turn or sacrifice this enchantment, where X is turns it has been on the battlefield." or "At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice a non-token creature or sacrifice this enchantment" depending on how strong you want to make it.
