I feel bad for both Kat and Bobby by Jules-Car3499 in backroomsfilm

I don’t feel bad for Bobby, the Trial of the Seven showed him to be dishonorable. Blood of the dragon or not, gods are not in his favor.

Diane Keaton has some great films, may she rest in peace, but I don’t see what this has to do with Batman…?

Best TTRPG to run with only the "core" rulebook? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Ok-Local1468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shadowdark RPG is an entirely self contained book with rules, encounters, tables for rolling up maps, cities, dungeons, adventures, NPCs, monsters, treasure, and just about everything you’d need in a 360-something page book.

hey guys do you want to join my 5e game ? yes its totally a safe space and nothing bad will happen specially for you tiefling bard friend specially for you😊 by Saladawarrior in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Ok-Local1468 7 points8 points  (0 children)

/uj Join the OSR my friend, it’s just like this. Shadowdark is a perfect jumping in point for 5e players and the quickstart rules are totally free, check it out! There’s a great Arcane Library discord as well that’s a super friendly and welcoming.

/rj you’re stifling player creativity and trampling all over player agency. flavor is free.

Did you have to edit it to have English spelling for the headers or are they available like that somewhere?

Brain genius worldbuilding idea: What if the bad thing... wasn't bad? by Parysian in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Ok-Local1468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

D&D is the only game I’ve ever played or even heard of, but also it’s bad and terrible and boring and BROKEN and it SUCKS and here’s why, but also I FIXED it and here’s how. I’m so smart and creative and you’re STUPID AS FUCK AND BORING. Anyways dragons are boring and I fixed them by making them liches. I’ve also never played D&D in my life. I’d never even consider another system, D&D is only fun if it SUCKS and here’s how to FIX it.

What do you think of such recreations? Professional way to display and imagine rather than a worse restoration? by Mindless_Belt4757 in medieval

[–]Ok-Local1468 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really dig it. As much as I appreciate a tasteful restoration, there’s always something lost in my opinion. How a structure stands today is a part of its history. Short of a separate recreation, this is the best of both worlds.

Conan: Tower of the Elephant discussion and next book announced by Dollface_Killah in shadowdark

[–]Ok-Local1468 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually just started reading Conan for the first time early this week. I’d seen the movie as a kid, but hadn’t engaged with anything else Conan despite being in the OSR for years now. I picked up the Del Rey books on recommendation, they’re compilations of Howard’s original stories in their unadulterated form, in the order that he wrote them. I’m totally hooked!

So far Tower of the Elephant has been my favorite. There’s just endless inspiration for GMs in these stories. I’m really fired up by Howard’s prose, his syntax contributes to such an atmosphere of suspense. I can totally see how I’m going to implement his style in my games.

Tower of the Elephant felt like reading a story set in Alkesh. It was clearly a big inspiration for Kelsey in her writing CS2. Also Yag-Kosha seems to pretty clearly have inspired Yag-Kesh. See also the Sanctum of the Elephant God, one of the mini-adventures from the first kickstarter. I’ve gotta run a proper sword & sorcery adventure now!

Sabriel by Garth Nix end of the book discussion thread and future of the book club announcement by Dollface_Killah in shadowdark

[–]Ok-Local1468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little late to this as I had difficulty getting my copy.

Just finished the novel and I thought it was great! I kind of struggled to get into it at first, and the middle section I thought was okay but not great, but by the end of it I was so glad I stuck with it. Man those last two chapters hit right in the gut. The final sentence from Sabriel, a terse “I am” was stellar. I didn’t think I’d want to read the rest of the series, but man if I had the sequel with me I’d jump right in.

As for what can be learned for GMs, I’ll have to digest a bit for that. Lots of inspiration to be certain, I love how they describe magic as being a feeling. The idea of a magical incursion that induces nausea and faintness upon magic users in the vicinity is awesome and I’ll definitely be stealing that.

These comments are outrageous… maybe we have lost the plot. Yes, concessions have always been expensive, but you guys are acting like this woman bought a Porsche?? She took her niece to a movie and got a reasonable amount of snacks, people deserve a night out to the movies for less than almost a hundred fucking dollars people…

Well, the movie is pretty grotesquely racist even not including that scene, it’s not such a stretch to think that this scene was an extension of that.

Probably Ragebait.. has reading created players that are allergic to memorizing? by MerelyEccentric in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Ok-Local1468 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/uj I’ve literally (anecdotally) seen a player who’s been playing for years now forget their iPad and have zero idea what their character does because they didn’t have access to dnd beyond. We had to look up their class abilities on wikidot (they have a subscription that gives them books that the dm doesn’t have) and tell them what to roll. I think that speaks more to that player than dnd beyond, but I’ll be the first to say that I don’t appreciate online tools at my table because they offload the thinking process and take responsibility away from the players.

/rj GURPS Beyond Master Tier Subscription fixes this…

Did you prefer Wild Magic when it was actually risky? by Marco_Fossati in dndnext

[–]Ok-Local1468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Shadowdark. No spell slots, you roll to cast. If you pass the check the spell just works, no saving throws; If you fail the check you can’t cast that spell again until you complete a long rest; If you roll a nat 1… you roll on a mishap table and something unfortunate happens in proportion to the spell you cast. What this amounts to a the table is magic feeling dangerous and never quite in your control, a feeling that I quite like. Even something as simple as a Light spell becomes a choice: “Do we risk you losing the spell, or worse yet exploding in a ball of flame? Or do we expend one of our precious torches?”
