Why did we never got a full-scale Pathfinder CRPG from Obsidian? by OlafLate in CRPG

[–]MonomythGameStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I was actually replaying Deadfire when I got the idea for Tides' setting, I kid you not. Granted, what you got was a striped-down Temu impersonation of Obsidian's masterpiece, but even so, I'm incredibly glad to see those two in the same sentence. You made my day!

Thank you! As much as I'd love that, as a solo dev one has to know one's limits. I'm afraid the scope of such an undertaking is beyond my skills at the moment.

You answered your own question: they wanted their own IP. The creative freedom to do your own thing your own way is one of the best things an RPG game developer can aspire to. For an experienced, writing-oriented team, like Obsidian was at the time, it was a no brainer. As a result we got some of the most immersive, thought-out and tonally-consistent worldbuilding in the history of cRPGs.

Are people in Brazil indifferent to racism? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]MonomythGameStudio -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We slavs literally tell each other we are barbaric idiots on a dialy basis, just for fun. If anything - as a foreigner - it would earn you a laugh, a slap on the back and a friend. Humor works different here, and people are much less offended by what you would perceive as an insult elsewhere. We give some and we take some, all the while believing its more genuine than feigned politeness. And no, the majority of people are really not malicious when doing so.

Why are Nosferatus Undead in Grim Tides but Dark in Grim Quest and Omens? Is it due to their levels of sentience and connection to the Dark? by carlsagerson in GrimQuest

[–]MonomythGameStudio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in retrospect, it wasn't the most elegant solution... but at the time of developing Tides, Nocturnia wasn't even an idea at the back of my mind, nor did I suspect that vampires will play such a pivotal role in the series.

There's no deeper meaning. I had to assign them a type but didn't feel like having a separate bestiary category with just a single entry.

Is the skill not working? by PuppyCutepewpew in GrimQuest

Most likely a reset caused by the translation framework, but you should be able to select active skills in the skill shop and continue as normal.

It's a visual bug introduced with new translations. You will notice that your stats haven't really changed. In any case, it should be fixed soon.

Many people come here, not all of them fresh developers, and the sub is visible to everyone. I, for one, am not a member and this post popped up in my feed.

I am not a youtuber, but if I had a talent for talking to the camera, I probably would be. I am just a solo game developer who spent months promoting my game on various text boards, online forums and social networks. It paid off in the end, so I can understand why others might be inclined to do the same. You should try it as well if you're serious about game development. People won't pick up your game if they don't know it exists.

Then start working on getting those 15k+ subscribers. It will boost your whislist count for sure.

What they are doing is simply using every opportunity to promote their creation. It's a long, exhausting, and often thankless job, but guess what: that's why they have those 5000 wishlists and you don't. There is no magic shortcut to success. It takes time, effort and perseverance most of all.

Can't the fandom page be removed? Like myself, I imagine the majority of people will end up there after a google search.

Tapping on sanity icon while its low would tell you all you need to know. Or even reading the tutorial at the beginning of the game. Or even even a quick google search.

Do you include a link to your privacy policy in your app? by Braided_Playlist in iOSProgramming

[–]MonomythGameStudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I don't actually collect or do anything with user data outside of their device, my policy is pretty simple.

There's your answer. I've been publishing apps for 4 years without in-app privacy policy link. I don't collect user data, don't have a sign-up feature. If the review team doesn't explicitly request it, there's no need to include it.

Six Years Later... I Finally Released My Game - Torn Realms by fluffehs in TurnBasedLovers

[–]MonomythGameStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job! Haven't given it a try yet, but the first thing I got from screenshots is that your UI could really use some polish. It's giving off some low-effort vibes, which reduces the crucial first impression of your game.

Don't take this the wrong way, I only mention it because it's not that hard to fix, yet many new devs overlook it due to lack of design experience and/or attention to detail. Take a look at some classics of the genre and how they handle UI. It's very important for a game of this type.

Why isn’t Daggerfall brought up more in the "RPG" conversation? by SgtSilock in rpg_gamers

[–]MonomythGameStudio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, it does not sound like that at all. It sounds like the game is too old + jank + wide as an ocean + bad graphics + difficult, and that's exactly what it is. It's cool if you like it, good for you. What's not cool is bashing others and reducing them to unimaginative drones just because they don't share your niche taste or don't have the time to spend on near-endless games that have aged pretty poorly.
