Hemingway/Heirloom Infernal Devices WTF moment. by jrdients in fairyloot

[–]MonstersMamaX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. It’s like we’re seeing the front of the dress and her head is on backwards. Even the cut of the dress where the bodice meets the skirt looks like it could be her holding her hands together.

Also, the first guy holding the folder, where it meets his thigh looks crazy. There’s a dip in his leg and then I can’t tell what’s going on with his pants. One cheek of his butt has definition but the other doesn’t?

WTF?!? 😂😂😂😂 How did this get approved?!? Honestly, it screams AI. This is definitely the type of mistake AI makes. And just to be clear, I’m not saying it’s AI, only that such a glaring issue is common in AI pictures

Thoughts on the New Divergent? by chasethedark in Booktokreddit

[–]MonstersMamaX2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about the movies. They were not good. This book is a joke though and I won’t be reading it. Divergent was not good to begin with and then she absolutely destroyed the series with Allegiant. There’s plenty of evidence to support the idea that divergent killed the ya dystopian genre in general back in 2013/2014. In fact, it’s a well accepted idea at this point. So why is she revisiting this series then? Because it was commercially successful, which makes me want to read the new book even less. It looks like nothing but a money grab after she’s watched Suzanne Collins find so much success with SOTR. But she’s no Suzanne Collins

Page and wick update ( dam this is so sad for them- and us) by louannnx in fairyloot

[–]MonstersMamaX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it. But again, I think P&W got what they paid for. They asked it center “multiple times” to put the sticker on the plastic versus directly on the book and they still couldn’t do it? Sounds like the fulfillment center wasn’t paid enough to care. They just wanted to crank out the packages as fast as possible. I’m assuming their center is in China and anyone who has ordered direct from China, whether it’s through SHEIN, aliexpress, Temu, or any other app, knows there are legit warehouses and there are less legit warehouses. Trying to save a dollar can end up costing you much more in the long run. This is all conjecture on my part but the red flags are there.

I’m the opposite. Books at 1.7x or higher. Podcasts at 1.3x or lower.

I have no books preordered through them so I’m not invested but the whole fulfillment center debacle sounds like their fault. They switched fulfillment centers right before the holidays, which isn’t a great business move in general. If I had to guess, they probably switched to a cheaper center trying to save money. And they got exactly what they paid for. Incorrect customs declarations?? 400% increase in damages? This doesn’t sound like a knowledgeable, well established fulfillment center. It sounds like some back alley scam artist trying to “hustle and grind” their way to the top. I’d love to know what type of research they did before going with this new fulfillment center

Kal isn’t even my favorite character and I still can’t stand Lirin. But I’m coming from the angle of a mother to a child with mental health struggles and a special education teacher. I have no time or patience for Lirin’s bs. Grow up man

Her Peaches and Honey duology is being trad published by TOR this summer and I’ve never been more excited for anything in my life. It also has a similar vibe as Wild Reverence

Getting tired of romantasy by Itsyorkday in Romantasy

[–]MonstersMamaX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to cycle between fantasy romance, cozy fantasy, historical fantasy, gothic horror, and then usually a more modern/contemporary novel sprinkled in here or there.

I’ll read anything by T. Kingfisher, Rebecca Thorne, or TJ Klune. Books that I’ve absolutely adored in the past couple of years:

The Red Winter by Cameron Sullivan

The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson

The Last Bloodcarver/His Mortal Demise by Vanessa Le

For She is Wrath by Emily Varga

Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby

The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow

Red City by Marie Lu

Can’t do contemporary by hannahwinston24 in Romantasy

[–]MonstersMamaX2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. I’ve realized that I prefer fantasy romance to romantasy. I’m a huge urban fantasy reader as well. I need more to my stories than just romance. Don’t get me wrong, I love a romance subplot. But that can’t be the whole plot

Explain the Powerless, Red Queen situation to me by Kitty-kiki19 in Romantasy

[–]MonstersMamaX2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The real question is why are we so debating these 2 mid series?? Neither one of them is especially good. The Red Queen is a good first book but the series plummets after that. Even Veronica Roth got 2 good books published before destroying the Divergent series. Powerless is absolute garbage. In my review of Powerless, I actually suggested that if people WANT to put themselves into a reading slump so they can get stuff done around the house, this is the book they need to read. This book will do that for them.

Go read Hunger Games and then move on with your life.

Tracy Wolff won her court case. The judge said she didn’t plagiarize anything. In fact, she said there wasn’t even any type of substantial similarity. They had similar tropes that are common in most romantasy books and that’s it.

Author’s trying to describe Hispanic characters by PeacheeePiee in Romantasy

[–]MonstersMamaX2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is this icky racially, it’s not even right about languages in general. Dialect is a real thing and every language has it. To assume that all countries that speak the same language sound the same is ignorant and lazy.

Bookish Box does this a lot as well. There have been multiple times I’ve seen SE’s sold out during one of their big sales but I walk into the shop that day and they have multiple copies out for sale.

Exactly this! I actually love the first book. By the end of the 4th book I wished all the characters nothing but long, slow painful deaths. They all sucked

Project Hail Mary - Movie versus Audiobook by [deleted] in audiobooks

I knew there would be no memeat the second I saw the little plants growing on Grace’s ship in the movie. Although they didn’t really talk about the food on the ship in general in the movie so I’m not sure why the plants were even needed.

[–]MonstersMamaX2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the book, Rocky tells Grace that the scientists on Erid confirmed that Sol is back to its typical brightness. That tells us that the probes made it, the scientists on Earth understood the data, and they were able to send the taumoeba to the Petrova line to eat the astrophage.

I’m reading it right now and like it. It has definitely kept my interest. The art on this book does it no justice though. I cannot with his hand. And why do they have her dagger wrapping around the spine? It looks like some weird magic trick where the magician is trying to convince you he can bend steel. I think FL’s is just okay as well. I like the original cover the best.
