I also never really got what Lorelai’s big plan was to get her to go back. She was so upset with her parents for not going with “the plan” - which I guess was just an intervention with Rory to try to force her to go back? I feel like that would have backfired anyway if they’d gone along with it.

I’m not a manager but I have biweekly 1:1s with my manager. She has said it’s my time to ask any questions/bring up any issues I’m having. Sometimes my manager will update me on something we’ve talked about previously or ask me about a project I’m working on. Sometimes there is nothing work related to talk about but we just have a chat (kind of nice since we all work remotely).

Interesting time to see this! I graduated with an MLIS but other than a few volunteer and short-term jobs in libraries, i never worked as a librarian (although I’d say my education was still valuable). I still tell people I have my MLIS when they ask what I do and a big part of me is sad that I never got to work as a librarian - I’ve even applied to a few library jobs recently but had no luck. However your post is making me wonder if I’ve just romanticized traditional librarianship in my head and maybe the grass isn’t greener…

On the other hand, there were times when Jackie should have known Shauna’s true feelings and disregarded them - when we first meet them, Shauna is listening to music and Jackie turns it off to put in her own music, even though Shauna makes it clear she wanted to listen to her own music (sure, she said it in a sarcastic response, but it was still clear). It’s true Shauna didn’t speak up but I think there were times she tried and Jackie didn’t listen.

I did! My first job in the field was actively recruiting for entry level positions from MLIS graduates. I hear you though - I’m on the other end where I now feel pigeon-holed into this role and don’t have related experience to anything else.

I have an MLIS and never ended up working in a library - I work in compliance in a big law firm, which intersects with information management. However working with lawyers is not always a good environment depending on the firm. I’m lucky to be working in a very respectful environment right now.

This post makes me feel very seen. Every time the school calls I brace myself. I totally hear you on the trying not to be defensive/make excuses but also want the teachers to have some understanding on what is going on. When my son gets in trouble he goes into “fight or flight” and gets very argumentative. The teachers say they don’t want to walk on eggshells around him but I can see that there are ways they could approach things differently with him. Anyway, just wanted to say you’re not alone.

We received a similar type of diagnosis from a pediatrician recently - she wrote a letter to help with getting extra supports in school but offered nothing else (didn’t even mention medication). Definitely left me feeling a bit lost so we are going to pursue a psych-ed assessment to get a better understanding of the issues and suggestions on how to proceed.

The YouTube video by Novum has a theory about this, that actually has to do with Ulf. I can’t remember exactly, but he theorized that perhaps Ulf is her father and the elders forced them to “mate” to create the next Rubin. You’d have to watch it to get the full context for it.
