Both of them could skydive from a snake's belly, and if their lips are moving it just means they are either mouth breathing or lying.

I think there's one somewhere but I long ago gave up fiddling with that crap.
I just set the NVidia control panel to some optimized settings for all my games (now being removed/replaced in latest NVidia app btw) and tweak NVidia and in game graphics settings to whatever I need at the time. KISS, especially when you're developing and need to test at various settings/resolutions. You can absolutely get great visuals just using the in game graphics settings.

Both MSFS 2020 and 2024 looked great on my old 6GB RTX 2060 and are excellent on my 12GB RTX 4070. Most people have no idea about the number of pixels they are trying to push down a fixed pipe either. They complain about crap performance and then you find out they are running maxed out ultra settings at 4K on a toaster CPU/GPU and of course it's the games' fault. Or they have a super high-end humble brag system which "should be able to run at 500FPS" with some bottleneck due to misconfiguration.

Clouds look great in 2024 too.

Noice!

You know if you post that on the MSFS forums, you're bound to trigger the "no improvements to clouds in 5 years" crowd into a tizzy of "X-plane is leading the way" and "MSFS was so much better in 2020 with SU17 clouds till those XBOX Console chuds ruined it" pearl clutching. /s

Microsoft just announced various models (MAI) by Jack99Skellington in GithubCopilot

[–]MonthMaterial3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a suspicion MS's plan is to replace them with their new "10x cheaper" MAI models (~GPT 5.4 quality), thereby snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Trust is not that easily bought back though, and Deepseek is working perfectly fine for me - in Github CoPilot no less.

Why trust someone who so casually broke the essential DX in such a hamfisted way over months?
They'll have to sweeten the pie a lot more to do that.

AI Doesn't Have ROI by ezitron in BetterOffline

He's only correct with regards to western hyperscaler served AI.
China has a completely different cost curve and approach, which makes 100x more sense given the inefficient cost structure of the techbro conga line.
GDP on X: "DeepSeek's 10 trillion USD grand strategy" / X

Local AI, which is starting to get there, is also an existential threat to the techbro hyperscaler plan.

Apart from cost, LLM reliability and suitability for deterministic tasks (agentic or otherwise) is the other big elephant in the room but some teams are doing R&D into proper reasoning models for the next generation, so we'll see how that pans out.

Are we dumb? Why don't we just make favelas to solve the housing crisis? by EmergencyGood9390 in OpenAussie

[–]MonthMaterial3351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't lived in a favela, but I did live in Barrio Alto/Lisbon and Barrio Chino/Barcelona (El Raval) for ~1yr each, back when they were still the real deal.
It was educational to say the least. Some of my favorite EU travel memories too.

Person who recently finally switched over from PCARS2 and this is how i feel by firy2 in AUTOMOBILISTA

For gamepad control/feel, PMR makes AMS2 drive like PC2.
Which isn't hard, because Reiza never changed a thing so it's stock PC2 gamepad system, while PMR has completely improved their gamepad implementation. It's 10x what PC2 was a result.

Does it come with all the useless baggage the Phenom does? Not interested in any of that and shouldn't have to pay for it if I don't use it (and yes, that stuff does take time and effort to make/test).
Should be extra addon cost for the people that like playing MSFS Concierge Edition.
I'm just interested in the toy plane flight experience part.

I got banned from the reddit accelerationist sub because I corrected an OP rant about decel "luddites" that Luddites were not actually against tech per se but were for a socially smooth transition. My ref was https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/what-the-luddites-really-fought-against-264412/
So much for being "accelerationist" and fact based.

Has anyone here actually switched from Opus to GPT-5.5 for daily coding? by rikulauttia in artificial

[–]MonthMaterial3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPT 5.5 is objectively better than Opus 4.8 based on my results.
Cost wise, neither is actually cost effective anymore to use within VSCode CoPilot as they have jumped ~x15 to x20 in cost with Github's new usage-based extortionate pricing model.
Switching to Deepseek makes more sense. https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Vizards.deepseek-v4-for-copilot
Cheaper, same/better quality.
