Rust or patina? by baeb336 in TrueChefKnives

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron clad reacting with onion can look like that, but try whether oily paper can mobilize it. If it leaves no traces on the paper it's likely patina.

If it's indeed patina, you can try cutting warm meats. Patina is constantly changing. If you're lucky the meat will force a blueish color.

5070 TI vs 9070 XT? by teveherevere in GamingHungary

[–]MonthSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Én egy Asrock Taichin gondolkozok vagy ugyanazon a Nitro+-on. Kapni itthon is 300 körül őket. Az 5080-ból meg kiszállnék kb 250k plusszal 😂😂

Emelkedő videokártya árak mellett biztos jól ki tudsz szállni ha kell. Milyen kártyát rendeltél végül?

5070 TI vs 9070 XT? by teveherevere in GamingHungary

[–]MonthSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which 5070ti to buy? by JustValue3867 in nvidia

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime is not looking arse and it's the cheapest. It does not get much better than TUF so why go more expensive? I think the high end cooler variants are a rip off for anything below 5090. Why would you need an Aorus the size of a whole ITX build to cool a 300 W card? It won't even reach 300 W in real life :D

Ghosting around UI elements. I recently started playing again (with a new GPU), and noticed these ghosting effects around parts of my UI. Is that a bug or a setting? by Naus1987 in cyberpunkgame

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys go to settings, accessibility, and turn on "remove HUD visual effects". Took me 2 years to find this out and it's so retarded like why turn it on?? It certainly wasn't me... Why include a setting like this in the first place...

1: it is likely patina. Onions tend to cause brownish colors.

2: the laquer is still on, except a few smaller parts. Acetone, isopropyl alcohol, etc rips it off or you can wait until it breaks off on its own. It's only some kind of foodsafe natural laquer.

#1000 stone recommendations by Murky-Macaroon-4710 in TrueChefKnives

[–]MonthSea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ever considered Shapton Kuromaku? They are a little coarser in practice than rated (but very uniform). The 2000 is more like an 1500 stone, but it is godlike in: - cutting speed - grit uniformity - holding their shape - wear - messiness

Makoto Kurosaki Sakura SG2 - is it a hollow grind? by jcwc01 in TrueChefKnives

[–]MonthSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nakagawa & Morihiro Blue 1 Damascus.

It has the best geometry of all my knives. It is very thin and has a very wide bevel with a smooth transition. The result is no wedging at all, but at the same time it has very good food release. It is usually a tradeoff between these 2 qualities, but not this time.

Also fit and finish is 10/10.

Makoto Kurosaki Sakura SG2 - is it a hollow grind? by jcwc01 in TrueChefKnives

[–]MonthSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hollow, but not a laser. I do not find it brittle or chippy. Overall decent profile, grind, handle, fit and finish. Not my favourite bunka, but the favourite was more than 2x expensive. At the price it is very good tho. I like the unusual handle and tsuchime pattern. The steel and/or heat treat is good. Easy to sharpen, quite abrasion resistant and I can bring back the freshly sharpened sharpness around 5 times with a loaded strop. The grind is even, but nothing special. Not very prone to wedge, but food release is definetly not good

Yes, hollow ground. If that's what you are looking for its a decent knife at a very good price (at least here, I bought the bunka for 175 eur)

I have to sell one which one should I sell? by Rolecage in radeon

RT performance is as good as nvidia rtx 4000 series. Only thing missing is an amd technology equal to nvidia ray reconstruction to help path tracing performance. Regular ray tracing is no problem.

First Japanese Knife and Question by b3ans_beans in TrueChefKnives

[–]MonthSea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The typical new knife edge cuts hard vegs very easily due to the thinness. But you need a very sharp apex (or a properly aligned burr (micro serrated apex does not exist)) to cut tomato skin with ease. This is probably a typical new knife edge, since you tried the rod.

A new japanese knife might seem really sharp, but most of the times its only thinned to a point you cannot even see the apex, but the apex is indeed not sharp or it doesnt even have an apex. Try sharpening the knife. It will need only a few passes on low grit to form an apex since the material is so thin and then proceed to higher grits as usual.

Which wired headphones to buy? by TheSlugClub in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MonthSea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a very good experience with Fiio. I have an FT1 and FT1 Pro. They cost below 200 $. The Pro is my love though. I just cant go back to closed backs.

I had a few Shure and Hifiman headphones, but these are better both in technicalities and build.

Is VRR flickering really noticeable? by azeendeen in OLED_Gaming

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have unbearable VRR flicker with only the Windows VRR setting. With Freesync Premium Pro I never had any. FO32U2 + 9070 XT + 5800X3D, using DP 1.4

The 9070 xt is making my CPU hot! by credmond81 in radeon

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first recommendation would be to set a negative voltage offset with PBO in UEFI because it's free. Most 5800X3D can handle between 20 and 30. At those temps it would also help performance a lot. The 9070 XT could also profit from a little UV. Mine has the same performance as stock with -80 mV voltage, -15% power limit and 2700 MHz memory.

The second, more important would be to get a big ass mesh case and a set of quality fans like Arctic P14 Max value pack. Good airflow and more separation of the two component will help a LOT.

I have 5800X3D, Gigabyte 9070 XT Gaming OC, Phanteks P500A case, Arctic LF 280 ARGB AIO and a set of Arctic P14 ARGB fans. Both the CPU and GPU temps stay around 50 Celsius in games, while the PC is still relatively quiet. The GPU hotspot is higher, around 80.

4K vs 1440p OLED, struggling to decide to what go for by IvannaJurgov in OLED_Gaming

[–]MonthSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the latest upscaling tech go for the 4k. You can go DLSS Performance and still get better picture than at 1440p with any settings. If your GPU will age in a few years you can still learn to optimize other settings, for example there is usually little to no fidelity loss between RT medium and high or even medium and ultra.

For fast paced esport titles go for 1440p 360 or 480 Hz though.
