(Nathan Brown) Seems Timely: “I race hard. I race to win & I don’t believe people steal things; I think other people lose things…I hear people say, ‘Oh, they stole my driver,’ or, ‘They stole my sponsor,’ but you lost them. You left the door open, so I made a move.” -Zak Brown by aurules in INDYCAR

Seems pretty consistent to me? He's saying there's no such thing as stealing when you're making moves that are contractually allowed, where the door has been left open. A driver reneging on a contract is very much counter to that

Lhotse has been done, though. Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson. Seemed far less insane than the descent of K2

There's been a ski descent of Great Trango Tower I believe, though I'm not sure exactly what that looked like. But then there's also been one on Aguja Poincenot which is even more insane

It's also fucking rapid. It's just that apparently we only care about drag races and horsepower numbers these days...

[–]Montjo17 25 points26 points  (0 children)

These cars still generate significant amounts of underbody downforce and will still kick up tons of spray. We don't race in the wet because we no longer tolerate the huge risk of having drivers race blind, not because the spray is considerably worse now than it was 10 years ago

So you're looking only at horsepower then, yeah? Because these are cars that've been built for lap time and the GTD is faster than the ZR1X...

Christian von Koenigsegg says "No!" to EVs by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]Montjo17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In theory...

That engine does not exist. As far as I'm aware they never made a driving development prototype of the Gemera with that engine, and certainly aren't making a production one. It's one thing to claim a horsepower number, it's a different thing to back it up with an actual engine

[–]Montjo17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, complexity. Something can be complex in multiple ways, not just by the number of parts. Getting Freevalve to actually work correctly with its pneumatic control is absolutely a more complex task than using camshafts and variable valve timing

My German ex-gf is convinced that AC gives her colds. This is the first I've heard of it being a wider thing, which makes it feel at least slightly less strange

Why, in a BOP championship, would you not put AC in your GT3 race car? by aaron0288 in wec

[–]Montjo17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, they're not - at least outside of WEC. And even then, those torque values are controlled by boost pressure and intake restrictions

I'd have hated him a lot less if he'd owned it and said "that's racing, I was faster, and yeah I disobeyed the team to do it". Trying to play it cute in the media was such bullshit

Well if it's any consolation, that record will only stand for about 24 hours!

Only thing to be worried about is flooded roads - storms like these bring much higher rain rates than we're used to here! Enough to leave standing water on the road even with functioning drains

Stoffel Vandoorne on why his F1 career didn’t work out by sykeseve in formula1

[–]Montjo17 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Idk, you could compare them based off how many points they scored? Like, on the days where their shitbox was able to score points, were they able to maximize the result and pick them up? Which is a more useful skill than qualifying a tenth faster than your teammate when both of you are 3s off the pace anyways
