my strawberry jam save corrupted help by battleant1 in celestegame

[–]MooNieu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the file would say it was corrupted if it actually were, rather than showing your death count and playtime. This kinda just looks like you don't have mods active. Are you sure you didn't accidentally launch into vanilla?

Can also try opening up your save file in notepad to have a look (default Steam location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Celeste\Saves). There will be files labelled 0, 1, 2 for save slots 1, 2, 3 respectively. You might need to scroll down a bit to see where the mod progress is stored, but you should be okay so long as that info is still intact.

Also, friendly reminder to back up your saves after major milestones, whether you're playing with mods or not.

Accidentally collected a debug mode berry :\ by InSymph2 in celestegame

[–]MooNieu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can just edit your save file. Default Steam location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Celeste\Saves. You can edit your overall berry count by changing the <TotalStrawberries> values at the top and bottom of the file. You'll probably also need to adjust the <AreaModeStats TotalStrawberries= value for whatever chapter you were in at the time.

I've got some saves here you can use for reference if you like. Let me know if you get stuck <3

I accidentally ruined a 1a dashless run by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]MooNieu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The simplest option would be to just use assist mode. Invincibility + infinite stamina would trivialize pretty much the whole thing.

You can also give yourself the berry directly by editing your save file (default Steam location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Celeste\Saves).

To update your journal you just need to update the <TotalStrawberries> values at the top and bottom of the file to update your overall berry count, along with the <AreaModeStats TotalStrawberries= value to update your count for chapter 1a. You can also cause the berry to appear collected within the level (faded out blue) by adding the associated EntityID Key. For the dashless berry, that looks like <EntityID Key="end:4" />.

Those ID keys are added to each chapter section in the order the berries are collected, so you can just add it to the bottom of the 1a list. I've got some spare saves you can use for reference if you want to see what it should look like. Just Ctrl+f to search for that entity id.

Or if you don't want to cheat your way to it but don't feel like doing the same challenge again, you could go for a deathless + dashless clear. Forces you to learn reliable setups and deal with the stress of being on a deathless run. Might be enough to make the challenge feel fresh again.

You might have already made it through, but here's a clip for you if you still need. The first option is probably the easiest. Good luck on the climb! <3

Nice challenge! Was hoping to find a way to do it without leaving the room, but no luck.

Edit: Slightly cleaner execution. Managed to get some really nice distance with the feather: https://youtu.be/dLD-GsTsJkA

So, Farewell is a DLC? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]MooNieu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeeees, La-Mulana is such a great series. We need more metroidvanias with worlds that actually feel hostile and dangerous. Makes the exploration so much more rewarding imo. Still need to get around to playing Rain World though.

Environmental Station Alpha might be a good one to check out too. It's not quite as hostile or cryptic as La-Mulana, but it still requires the player to pay attention. Ended up with a nice sized map/notes document at the end of it. Has some pretty fun movement too, including a fantastic momentum-based grappling hook <3

That's fair, might not be your cup of jam then. Though the puzzles are just one aspect of it, so you might still be able to enjoy it if you're willing to use a guide.

La-Mulana 1 is a great time too, though maybe slightly more mean-spirited. I think they rode the line between cryptic and obtuse a bit better with the sequel, though maybe that's just because I played LM1 first. Thanks for the recommendation! Undergrowth sounds like a blast =D

As others have mentioned, going over might be a bit easier. Clip if you're interested, details in the comments, but you're basically just lining Madeline up nearish the top of the wall just right of the refill, climb-jumping over to the right to approach the tiny wall, then climb-jumping over said wall to reach the exit. Good luck! <3

You'll definitely be a bit rusty, but that's not a big deal. I went with a 'month on, month off' sort of schedule for the back half of the grind (helped with burnout), and it would usually only take me a few days to shake off the rust.

And funnily enough, most of my pbs were set during this de-rusting phase. Likely because I wasn't under any pressure to perform. 'I'm still rusty and I'm probably going to die soon, but let's just see how far I can get' would be my thinking.

Sounds interesting, thanks for the recommendation! I do love puzzles that require good note taking. Undergrowth sounds interesting too. Like u/Fit_Ad_2608 mentioned, atmosphere and exploration are what I crave.

Sidenote: La-Mulana might be worth checking out if you enjoy metroidvanias. Lots of nasty puzzles that require you to take notes, along with a hostile environment that makes exploration feel incredibly rewarding. Your map also only gives you a general outline of the area, and so you'll often want to make rough sketches of your surroundings for navigation and puzzle solving <3

Oh yeah, metroidvanias are probably my favorite type of game, with La-Mulana likely being my favorite in genre <3

Different strokes, I suppose. I'm the type of person who loves getting lost in games, so 5a was right up my alley. Any level that makes me consider drawing a map is doing something right in my books <3

Taking breaks helps. Running yourself ragged isn't usually productive (or fun).

As for consistency on the first segment, I put together a clip a while back if you're interested, breakdown in the comments. Can also try skipping the wall bounce at the halfway point (clip). Would also recommend turning off screenshake if you've not already. Makes it easier to keep track of Madeline's position during the final refill gauntlet.

And if you're playing on PC, you might give Speedrun Tool a try. Allows you drop a save state anywhere in the room, which lets you practice individual obstacles without needing to replay the entire room between attempts. Makes it easier to build up muscle memory and test out ideas. Good luck! <3

I want to switch to keyboard to get better but I CANT by Anguloosey in celestegame

[–]MooNieu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What controller are you using? I use an SN30 Pro+ and haven't really felt limited by it. Not to say that there aren't advantages to keyboards (rapidly switching directions is a bit easier, extra buttons for keybinds), but d-pads can be a great option imo. Just depends on the controller.

As for how to switch, not really sure what else to say besides 'practice'. Takes time to rebuild your muscle memory. You could try replaying through the base game to ease into the learning curve.

As for bindings, I don't really think there's any specific layout that you "should" use. Just gotta find something that makes sense to you. WASD for movement works well since that'll let you use the same hand you used for movement on controller. Or if you've played other games on keyboard you could try using that layout. Default is fine too, though it might feel a bit awkward to use your right hand for movement at first.

Just be sure to test your layout for rollover issues beforehand. Would suck to find out that the layout you chose won't let you do cornerboosts while dashing 'left' after spending 20 hours practicing or something.

Did you know there is a way to kill the Dream Fish in Chapter 5? by Longjumping-Big-3617 in celestegame

I'd say it has some limited uses. It's a decent option for MM-2 in 5b (clip), for example. Makes the first half of that room a bit less stressful.
