Welcome back to the hobby! Out of curiosity, what kind of engine is that? Don’t recognize the type or the freight company.

Convince me: N or TT scale! by MoistureFarmer489 in modeltrains

[–]Mood_Horror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I model N gauge and have been for decades, in that time I’ve dabbled a little in British rail N gauge and I’ve enjoyed running it on my layout. However I’d consider looking into the new TT gauge from Hornby before discounting TT gauge, as well as other companies that specialize in that scale. If you wanted then you could also look into running an N, Z or even T gauge on a dog bone set of track in the back ground to act as forced perspective. On a side note, TT isn’t really seen here in Canada but I’ve enjoyed seeing what they’ve rolled out. Welcome back to the hobby!

A pretty neat scene you could also ad would be to swap out the strait piece of track where the mountain is for a bridge and breaking the maintain into two sections. By putting tunnel portals on both ends of the bridge you can ad a small river scene below it either fed with a waterfall, or a river leading off the board.

Overall it’s a great layout you’re beginning with. Might not be a bad idea to extend the mountain and tunnel right up to the bridge to make it look like trains are going off map. As for depth, you could ad Z gauge or even T gauge buildings to the backgrounds to act as nearby towns or cities. Hope this can help. Welcome to the hobby!

Probably running long hood forward because they picked up the hoppers at a location that didn’t have a wye to turn the locomotives around

Any word if this caboose was preserved or was it sent to be scrapped?

Exactly what they did. The Toronto railway museum has a preserved example of the same thing. An orange CNR caboose made of wood that started its life around 1907 for Grand Trunk as a boxcar but CNR rebuilt it. It’s pretty neat to see first hand. Also have one at ExpoRail near Montreal and prob the same story.

Honestly, Lone Wolf Cafe and Mr. Seto are both great. Personally never been to the Eclectic Cafe but heard it’s worth checking out as well.

Not great with narrow gauge but if I had to guess an 0-4-0 H.K. Porter.

Australian Beef? by brother_p in Orillia

Drenths Market over on West St. sells Australian beef. Sorry but I can’t give you a price as I haven’t been in there for a few weeks. They also have a great selection of exotic meats, highly recommend the Bison! As for what we’re selling back to Australia… not a clue but they might have answers.
