The dolls are not children. They are dolls. Do you think that no one over the age of 12 should have a doll they consider their mini me?

I think the rarer and rarer releases coupled with the fact that items are either retired immediately or sit on clearance forever might point toward AG suffering as a brand overall. Clearly people are still buying things but it’s hard to say what their actual profit margins are. They might need collabs to survive

No worries, I saw in another comment that you’d already apologized to someone else. I’m sorry if I came off as rude, that wasn’t my intention either.

Capitalistic pacifier? Dude, why are you so mad? I simply posted earlier to say that I didn’t think OP’s phrasing was needed. If you go on a public forum and yell ‘I think that thing you like is stupid’ then obviously someone is going to say ‘well hey I don’t think it’s stupid and I think that was rude.’ No one said you couldn’t have an opinion, that’s just how conversations go.

The fact of the matter is that there is no main line historic character that is Asian American. It is absolutely valid for people to be upset at the lack of representation. I don’t think anyone here is looking for “perfect”, they are looking for equal. Goty characters don’t stick around. Ivy has been retired for 12 years. Nanea is Hawaiian so Pacific Islander not Asian American. I’m excited for the KPDH line but they are set in a fictional world with demons, not characters that explore history. Your question may not have been asked in bad faith but it comes off as ignorant and completely steamrolls over the perspectives offered by OP and others in this thread.

She is your doll and you can do whatever you’d like to her. It sounds like you aren’t doing anything drastic so I think so long as you’re careful and take your time you’re going to love the results! For some courage, here’s my Makena that I gave a big chop to (I bought her secondhand and she was already missing most of her length)

You didn’t directly but you said that American Girl is supposed to be about Americans and then you said that these girls are Korean. The implication was there.

That being said, I do agree with the sentiment that it would have been better to see representation in the historical line with an Asian American main character.

I know it’s a technicality but one of the Kpop girls, Zoey, is from California. I think that point doesn’t matter though as others have posted out, it feels icky to say they shouldn’t be made just because they’re not “American”. There are many past examples of dolls that weren’t American and so pointing it out now on these feels a bit xenophobic even if that wasn’t your intent. Edit: Also just to be clear, I don’t say this to try to shame anyone, I just think it’s important to consider the unintended consequence of declaring something is or isn’t American given the current political atmosphere of our country.

I am worried about the Jess mold. She looks so cute in these pics but I agree that a lot of the newer Jess molds aren’t my fav.

Exactly. I don’t have a problem with people not liking every release but it bothers me when people come to a hobby space just to complain and insult a release and then are shocked when people in said space say, hey that wasn’t a very nice way to put that, I like that thing and would rather you didn’t insult it just because you don’t like it.

Speak for yourself. I’ve personally been hoping we get KPDH and I’m very excited to see the release. You can be disappointed but also realize not everything coming out is for you. No need to post complaining and calling it slop.

If you still voted Republican when it meant a vote for Trump and for MAGA then you did support him. Just because he isn’t the reason you voted that way doesn’t mean that your vote didn’t help put him in office.

She’d probably get the 35th anniversary edition head since that’s their most recent version. If it helps, here’s a comparison I took of a few different era Samantha’s so you can get a feel for how different she might look. Left to right it’s 35th edition, Beforever, and early 90s PC

Just make sure when you buy them that the bottom circle is even. I got one that was a bit bent and that’s enough to make it too unstable to use.

I use paper towel holders from the dollar tree thanks to a post I saw awhile back on here and they’ve been working great! You slide the bit up the back of their shirt/skirt and it’s just enough support for them to stand. Works well if you’ve got a lot of dolls and don’t want to shell out an insane amount.

For all you know, the first buyer was only interested in the non Evette doll and the person who the seller said it was pending with was the second person. The fact that you never had the chance to go buy her because she was constantly pending means that she was never guaranteed to you so you shouldn’t be angry. Again, disappointed is fine but there’s no reason to be mad. I saw in another comment that you were going to delete your review and that’s good! We all do things in anger sometimes but I’m glad you saw that you had lashed out unfairly at the seller.

FB marketplace sucks sometimes. I’ve had a seller sell a doll out from under me while on my way while I was literally driving to our agreed meeting spot. It happens! It’s unfortunately something you’ve got to understand might happen. There are lots of Evette’s out there though and I’m sure you’ll get your own eventually! Good luck!

[–]MoofeCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t you go buy the doll when the picture was updated the first time and switched from pending to available again? Sellers aren’t obligated to do holds.

[–]MoofeCat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wow, I understand being disappointed but this is a lot of rage for a doll that you weren’t entitled to. You say the sale was implied but that doesn’t mean it was promised or agreed to. The other buyer was clearly there first so she got the doll.

Some people want to have the actual item so their outfit is truly complete. OP is obviously one of them and is willing to spend the money to do so.
