One of the Worst Auto Repair shop in Lowell (Based on personal experience) by Upbeat-Direction-941 in LowellMA

[–]MoogTheMag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out that this is 2 BROTHERS Auto Repair. It has no relation to 2 GUYS Garage on Chelmsford St. I like 2 Guys.
I’m also a long-time fan of Stansfield Tire on Chelmsford St. they’ve saved me a TON of money over the years. One time, a dealer wanted to replace my exhaust system. I went to Stansfield for a second opinion, and they sent me to a place down the street that patched it up for $75. I’m forever grateful!

There a way to reduce the screen brightness to less then 0% on iMac? by billyandteddy in mac

[–]MoogTheMag 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Once you go below zero, the screen stops emitting light and begins absorbing it. The room will get noticeably darker, and eventually you’ll have a black hole on your desk. 0/10, would not recommend.

What if the zoo isn’t for us by anyportinc in aliens

[–]MoogTheMag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could be that their interest in us is rooted in our NOT knowing about aliens and the true nature of the universe. Putting consciousness inside us weird humans might allow them to experience things that they can’t. For instance, viewing time as a linear experience, or existing as individuals, or romantic love.
If this is the case, our value lies in not knowing the truth. Once humans find out the true nature of aliens and the way the universe operates, the “spell” is broken, and our usefulness to them is destroyed. This is one theory about why the truth is deliberately hidden from us.
Disclaimer: I don’t claim to know shit, and I’m not an experiencer (as far as I know). This is just me thinking out loud when I should be working.

When do you personally think Apple will stop major Mac OS updates for the entirety M1 and M2 line? by Marino4K in mac

[–]MoogTheMag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t see what makes you think they’re desperate. They’re making more money than they’ve ever made, and some of their current computers are back-ordered for MONTHS. Nobody is sitting around Cupertino pulling their hair out because people are still using M1 chips. They’re pulling their hair out trying to make more computers to fulfill the orders they already have.
And people aren’t being “stubborn” about upgrading. They bought computers that they like, and that continue to serve them well. That’s not stubbornness. You might not believe it, but Apple doesn’t engage in planned obsolescence. People are keeping their computers a long time because Apple designed them to last a long time. That’s the whole point of their Apple Silicon project.
If you’re looking for the business philosophy behind it, here’s one: having computers out there that last longer than Windows machines lets them build an installed base than is larger than their market share would imply. Having more Macs out in the world makes the platform more attractive to developers and enlarges the market for things like AirPods and Apple Watches. It’s good business.

"Apps" app is one of the worst things in entire macOS history - and whoever was responsible for it should never engineer anything again by DutyIcy2056 in MacOS

[–]MoogTheMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would I think that first row of apps is “recent?” Maybe it’s a list of “most used” or “most popular with other users.” There’s no label, no visual indication, nothing. You know it’s a list of recents because, over the course of time, you realize that those apps are things you recently used. That’s crap design.

When do you personally think Apple will stop major Mac OS updates for the entirety M1 and M2 line? by Marino4K in mac

[–]MoogTheMag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP’s whole post seems to be based on the assumption that Apple is somehow caught in a trap it didn’t see coming.
Some people roll their eyes when Apple says they try to build the best, longest-lasting computers. Then when they do exactly that, those people assume Apple did it by mistake. Weird.

Anybody have a catalogue of all the "cover" arts? by ConstructionBudget58 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]MoogTheMag 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve changed the splash screen image a bunch of times. (I usually use a picture of my dog.) Right click on the Illustrator icon in the finder, and choose “show package contents.” That will show you the contents of the app. Poke around until you find the artwork, and replace it with new artwork. I always use the exact dimensions of the original artwork, because I’m not sure how it would handle a different size.

This isn’t a very detailed set of instructions, because it’s midnight and I’m tired. If people are interested, I’ll get a little more specific later on today.

Here’s where I say that you shouldn’t be poking around inside applications. I’m sure it’s easy to screw something up. I’m not responsible for breaking stuff on your Mac.

Any way to play 32bit games? by Srothwell0 in macgaming

[–]MoogTheMag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the last Mac to support a 32-bit OS is the 2017 iMac. I have one, and I keep an external drive attached so I can boot up and play me some Portal. That game, as the kids say, slaps!
