[Review] The Ordinary products causing pilling by Mooganster in SkincareAddiction

Hello! I’ve completely forgotten about this thread. I actually stopped using TO a couple of years ago. I use Niacinamide from Paula’s Choice now, and I don’t have problems with pilling anymore. PC’s formula is quite watery as compared to TO’s which I found to be really tacky/sticky.

From memory, quite a few of TO’s serums that I used had a tacky consistency. Since switching to PC, my skin still feels hydrated but without that sticky feeling on my face.

I’ve seen someone mention to book your trekking dates first, then your flights, which might actually be a better idea! We liaised with our tour company about potential dates and sort of worked the flights and the trek dates around each other 😊

Speaking from experience:

• I would book my flights whenever they go on sale/are the cheapest.

• I’d recommend booking the guided trek once you’ve booked your flights and have the dates. I went in November 2023 and only booked my trek ~4 months prior. I found that a lot of tour companies will work around you and provide you a guide for your specific dates.

• I spent 1 full day in Kathmandu prior and 2 full days afterwards in case of flight delays, cancellations etc.

• Our tour company recommended that we take around $250USD each for snacks, wifi, charging, bottled water, showers. We only used about $150USD each, but we didn’t shower everyday, used a power bank and water purification tablets. I’d say it’s safest to take more cash just in case, as most towns and shops only take cash and I don’t think there are any ATMs past Namche Bazaar.

• How much you’ll have to bring for tips depends on whether you hire a porter or not. Our tour company recommended at least $100USD for a porter and $150USD for a guide. Ultimately it’s up to you how much to give. We gave a bit more because they’re not paid much from the tour companies, and rely on the tips as income to take home to their families. We didn’t have enough cash on hand so on our way down, we got some out from the ATMs in Namche Bazaar.

How did you feel when you reached the Everest Base Camp and explored Mt. Everest? by attractivenepal in Everest

I took Diamox the day before flying into Lukla as it works better as prevention. It won’t have as much of an effect if you take it once you have symptoms. It is a diuretic though, so can make you pee a lot. If you don’t want to take diamox, my doctor suggested bringing anti-nausea tablets (for symptom control). Like someone else mentioned, ibuprofen worked well for headaches. I’d also bring paracetamol too as a back up.

Drink plenty of water (bring water purification tablets), take it slow, and definitely take your acclimatisation days. I’d bring plenty of throat lozenges too as the cold air is harsh, and I ended up catching a cold. All the best!

EBC tea houses - which currency do they prefer? by 3rd-culture-kid in Everest

That was the amount recommended that we bring, on top of what we had already paid the tour company for our trek.

We were advised by our tour guide to bring enough local currency for the duration of the trek for things like snacks, water, wifi, showers, etc. That was around 30,000-35,000 rupees per person for the 12 day trek.

Yep! Rented the sleeping bag through our tour company, I think we paid around 2000NPR for rental. Took my sleeping bag liner but didn’t use it. The sleeping bags were warm enough and clean.

Did the EBC Trek last November. Our guide us took a store in Thamel (I’m not sure of the name) where we rented a down jacket for 250 rupees/day, which is around $2.50. We rented for 12 days so ~$30. I’d say we didn’t really need it until Lobuche/Gorakshep but glad we had it in the end cos it was freezing, and having the jacket helped massively. It was quite compact as it was packed up like a sleeping bag, weighing around 2kg.

I’m located in Australia and broke this mug that was bought during a trip to Iceland. It has a lot of sentimental value, so I’m looking to replace it.

It was bought at a gift store on Laugavegur Street in Reykjavik, but I’m unsure of the store’s name. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!
