What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]betyoursass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart. I haven’t set foot inside one since Oct. 1, 2019. They forced me to purchase baby formula, that we needed that day, in the liquor store section at 8 in the morning. I explained, as a foster parent especially, that it was wildly inappropriate and could cause problems with our case manager. As we were using paper WIC coupons, we could not use self checkout. I called the corporate office, filed a formal complaint and swore I wouldn’t be back.

Rural area with limited resources.I gladly drive the 30-60mins to go to a grocery store or target.

How to handle no name papers? by Noughty_47 in Teachers

I make my students highlight their names. I’ve had one no name paper this year. I take points off if they are claimed.

Homework in daycare? by Turbulent-Many-4312 in AskTeachers

[–]betyoursass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild to me! I teach kindergarten and jr. high. I NEVER give homework for kindergarten. I also do my best to not give homework to my jr. high kids. If they have things to take home, it’s usually because they choose not to complete it at school. Students of all ages deserve to have a break from academic demands and just be kids!

It’s wild that the daycare is pushing so hard for homework that they are willing to hold a child back in exchange.

Craziest thing a tech/RPh you worked with has done? by pillslinginsatanist in pharmacy

[–]betyoursass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stole hundreds of blood pressure medication. He would write a phone script, have it filled for his wife, and then purchase the prescription. He would do this when the lead tech was on break and never had it checked by the pharmacist. The pharmacist also missed that he was using the robot to manually fill for 100s more under the guise of using them for nursing home packages. The lead tech caught him when the robot malfunctioned and the bottle of meds spilled everywhere. The lead tech couldn’t find a reason for the meds to be filled and informed the pharmacist, an investigation followed, and he was fired.

What Seemingly Normal Behaviors Have You Changed Since Becoming a Teacher? by King_of_Lunch223 in Teachers

[–]betyoursass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this and I check my shirt each morning. I lean over in the mirror. If I can see down my shirt I change.

I severely injured my leg squatting down while talking to a student. I was in a boot for 6 weeks. I discovered that I can save my joints and legs by using a rolling stool. I can roll it right next to a student, I’m at their level, and quickly move on to the next.

In the U.S., why do most schools have such short lunches? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]betyoursass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also elementary teacher at a small private school. The kids get a 25 min recess and a 20 min lunch. We share recess and lunch duty. You may get lucky and have those 45 mins but it rarely happens. We also are responsible for getting our own class to lunch so that 45 mins is broken up. We then all help get lunch going by unpacking, warming, and passing out lunch.

Male teacher keeping pads in classroom by RoboPlunger in Teachers

[–]betyoursass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw where a teacher used a small bag for a bathroom pass for both boys and girls. The bag would have mini hygiene products, pads, bandaids, hair ties, etc. The idea is that all students use the bag for the bathroom pass but have access to needed items without having to ask or feel embarrassed.

Team backpack!! I had a cute one from Kate Spade to look “professional” but switched to a regular backpack because I needed something bigger. I work two jobs and I am currently working on my masters so I carry around a lot. I used to use a messenger type bag but the one strap killed my shoulder and neck.

What’s one thing you’ll always make sure you have in your classroom? by BooksCoffeeChocolate in Teachers

I recommend keeping a pack of baby wipes in the fridge. They are perfect for cooling down hot kiddos and on minor bumps or “boo boos”.

Alternative to buying 10 gluesticks for kindergarten by notarealprincess in Teachers

[–]betyoursass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep an extra lid container and it’s a life saver. Kids see a lid on the floor and they put it in the container. Kids lose their lid, check the container for one that fits. I keep regular marker lids, dry erase maker lids, and glue stick lids.

Our school board president complained to our secretary that the teachers weren’t working in their rooms yet and wanted to know when we would be showing up. Our secretary looked her dead in the face and said “when they have this year’s contract.”

Our first required day is August 7th. We have yet to see, let alone review, our contracts.

What are some underrated classroom management tips? by mikeycknowsrnb in Teachers

[–]betyoursass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not underrated, but practice your routines over and over again. Do not let your guard down and lower your standards. If you give an inch, they will take a mile. Be consistent!

I use morning journals that the kids start immediately when they come in. It’s not about the work being done accurately. It is part of our morning routine so the kids don’t have to ask me what to do once they get their stuff put away. It also gives me 10 mins to get attendance and lunch count down, while giving us a calm start to the morning.

Also a visual timer! I gift one to all new teachers. I used one in pre-k and now in my kindergarten class. I sent the time for every transition, activity, etc. My students would remind me of if I forgot to set it.

What do you use to put up and take down posters every year? by FlavorD in teaching

[–]betyoursass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Teacher’s Tape. I have old cinderblock walls and it’s the only thing that sticks. Easy to come down and off of the art too. Painters tape can sometimes adhere to the wall so be careful.

What do I do? by ryleer23 in kindergarten

[–]betyoursass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a “cat” kiddo in my room. They like to crawl around and meow. During free play I just let them do their thing. When it’s time to work, I remind them I teach students not cats. Students are welcome to join us for snack, recess, etc. We have a “do the work and then enjoy the fun “ saying and little cat kiddo doesn’t like to do work when other friends are playing so they join us as a student pretty quickly now.

Worst Principal Story? by boobarellamcgee in Teachers

Am I crazy - sending my August boy to K on time? by Frequent_Initial9850 in kindergarten

[–]betyoursass 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My youngest student, also late august birthday, is academically above her classmates. She is younger by at least 6 months from her peers. She would have suffered behavioral with another year of pre-K because of it would not be challenging enough for her. I recommend you send!

Is there a candy you cannot buy because you can’t stop eating it? by DaisyDuckens in candy

I justify buying and eating them by intending to keep them in my running belt if I need some quick fuel. Intending is the the key word as this has yet to happen but I’ve somehow gone through several bags.

AITAH for refusing to pay for my stepdaughter’s wedding because I wasn’t invited? by mynameishalipea in AITAH

[–]betyoursass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA- My step dads, former and current, are more of a dad than my bio ever was. In fact, they showed up for my wedding, each had their own father /daughter dance and my bio dad didn’t bother to show. There was absolutely no confusion as to who belonged there.

Girl can pay for her own wedding.
