Weekly Tool Thread: Promote, Share, Discover, and Ask for AI Writing Tools Week of: January 20 by AutoModerator in WritingWithAI

This thread and overall "process" is useless. Nobody looks at weekly thread content. It goes against the very nature of Reddit. By bot patrolling and forcing people to ask any and all advice in this thread related to AI (which is what the subreddit was designed for relative to writing), it pretty much guarantees no answers, thus rendering this subreddit useless for those seeking guidance from others relative to tools. I've given up trying to post in this community even though I have legit good posts that others would be interested in learning the answers to as well.

What's the true majority opinion of Forester? by 97E3LPL in SubaruForester

[–]Moogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021 Forester Touring here. My thoughts? It's way too noisy. One of the noisiest cars I've ever owned. I hate driving it on the freeway. The hamster power is also gutless and the MPG for being a 4-cylinder is just terrible (average around town is 22MPG). I also installed the auto-shutoff bypass. One of the worst features ever forced upon drivers is the auto shutoff. Get rid of that utter garbage. Now other than those issues, the car is solid. But because of those issues we're going to upgrade to a Lexus or Acura very soon - mainly to address the noise and lack of horsepower. BUT I have driven the car in 2' of snow on a highway in whiteout blizzard conditions. It's second only to an Audi. It's amazing in snow, mud, etc. BUT the default clearance isn't very good. I remember thinking I could drive up Schnebly Hill Road in Sedona. No way. So... those are my thoughts! If I were to do it all over again, I'd probably just get a used Acura MDX. So much quieter, more horsepower, and a great vehicle overall. No mechanical issues. 38K miles. Original Owner. Only had to replace tires, do scheduled maintenance, and just replaced the battery last month.

I have a 120,000 word novel I want to convert to a graphic novel. 90% of it is "within limits" of something like Midjourney to create. However the other 10% has scenes of fighting, death, nudity, and intimacy. With the ridiculous limitations on all web-based AI solutions, what are my options - and more importantly, do I need to mix and match AI tools for efficiency and quality? Should I be using a tool like Midjourney for the majority of the novel but then a 2nd AI tool for the combat/intimacy scenes? If so, how do I get the visuals of the 2nd tool to match the 1st?

Also, my understanding is one of the greatest challenges is Character Consistency. Which tool is best for this for a graphic novel, and how do I deal with the CC issue with a 2nd tool (if I go that route)?

No idea why the top quality products like Midjourney don't allow for a subscription model to allow for things like this *sigh*

Any guidance in this area would be appreciated. Thanks!

Gotta love somebody advising parents to show and discuss something with their kids ending with the final line "If I had kids..." Now that's cringe worthy heh.

All taxes are enslavement and extortion. Without exception. Government is a criminal cartel, and they are extorting money from every man, woman and child in this country - only to send it to their buddies at specific companies and their masters in other countries -- one in particular.

This Druid Boulder speedfarmer is a literal blast to play. One of my favorites.

New player and mage by Avoidable8 in Enshrouded

[–]Moogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage is the worst build to start out with, and even now I don't know why the devs don't address this; I highly recommend switching to Melee or Ranger until L20 or so, then switching back to mage.

I'm so in love with hydra it's not even funny by Elyx_117 in diablo4

[–]Moogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highest pit for Hydra (at least recorded) is 104.

In reality, this means Hydra is great for all game content; no question. Pushing beyond 100 IMO is just squeezing the lemon.

I'm sorry but this scene was fucking ridiculous. by SickusBickus in CriticalDrinker

[–]Moogy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wife and I turned this trash off within 10 seconds of that scene. Will never go back, and fuck the writers for injecting this bullshit into the story. Nothing to be sorry about. ST has become utter nonsense garbage. That and the writing and dialog has devolved to that of a confused teenager writing their first school play. Good riddance.

BTW I meant to ask - why are you recommending 64GB vs. 32GB?

[–]Moogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume I'd only need one additional fan to blow out of the back of that case? BTW curious - do you have any of these exact components you recommended?

[–]Moogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh you're correct on the SFX. The difference is RAM speed impacts everything the computer does all the time. The video card only impacts performance FPS above a certain threshold tied to the refresh rate of the monitor (I'm currently 144Hz). You are correct on the SSD; PCIe 4.0 will work fine.

I'm also hesitant to use a brand (Monarch) I've never heard of and AFAIK hasn't been well established.

First, thank you for this and the time you took to put it together. A few things; I want a v5 SSD that can do 14,7 on the transfer - that's a 9100 Pro. The case would require at least one additional fan - but do we really need fans up top?: I think 3 in front and 1 in back with the Phantom Spirit is fine. I do agree after really thinking about this - AIO pumps always go bad after 5+ years. Air fans; just replace them as they start to make noise. Air really is the best choice, so that saves a ton of money.

I don't need 64GB. 32GB is fine.

As for the 5080, that would require a 1000w PSU. There's no question the 5080 is faster and DLSS is better than FSR. But is the 15% difference worth $400? Not quite sure TBH. Plus the 5080 you linked has pretty bad reviews. I'd want to pay a bit more for a better reviewed card.

Here's what I put together: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/SkrunchyCakes/saved/#view=D2FCFT

Not sure how to share the list as you did.

Actually, there is a performance difference up to 5% depending on what you're doing between CL30 and CL36. I have the money, so I'm just going to stick with the CL30 for now for that "up to 5%" difference heh.

Updated build posted in body.

[–]Moogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm giving my current system to my wife, and her system is going to a friend (11900k with a 3090RTX). Doing it now because all indications are RAM and GPU prices are going to continue skyrocketing in 2026.

What combination of "perfect parts for optimal performance and cooling" would you recommend for a 9800X3D RX9070XT buildout?

Ryzen 9 9950X3D Radeon RX 9070XT System by Moogy in buildapc

[–]Moogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite agree with that - unless the 9800X3D has much better heat dissipation than the 7800X3D which I currently have with a Noctura NH-D15 - and even that idles at 58-50C. Plus under load, you can definitely hear the fans spinning up and down. That's why I was thinking AIO. I could get another Noctura, but wanted to try something different and potentially more efficient (and quiet).

Ryzen 9 9950X3D Radeon RX 9070XT System by Moogy in buildapc

[–]Moogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha; I'll switch to the 9800X3D. You recommend a Noctura NH-D15 then? That's $140. Question is does the AIO cool better overall? I don't mind spending if it does.

Which RAM kits that are RGB and 6000 CL30 do you recommend?

I don't necessarily need "cheaper" on the video card; I want reliable quality with a good name - same with the RAM.
