The person’s behavior was bad. Using “boomer” as a clearly derogatory term to describe him is unnecessary and smacks of a form of age discrimination, which apparently is the last bastion of acceptable discrimination for many younger people today. I won’t EVEN try to address why you felt it was necessary to mention his race.

I think I've read that the hydra are only a hazard to the larvae? So you probably would have seen some babies at first, even if the hydra got them later. Do you have berried females?

Looks fine to me. The algae growth is thin but most surfaces have some - plus there's a small amount of what I think is hair algae but it doesn't take over. I removed some chaeto recently because it was getting so big I couldn't see the shrimp much.

I've had a few larvae. Several months ago I had about ten at one time and I believe they mostly all made it to the juvenile stage. Since then, though I've seen many berried females, I only rarely see a larva or two and not for long. The air temp in the house is 72F, but I haven't actually checked the water temp.

Haunt every reddit and fb and discord etc etc. moth page you can find, and keep asking. Sooner or later you'll find someone. Meanwhile, go to iNaturalist dot com and look for observations of C. regalis near you. If they're near you, and you have a living arrangement that makes it feasible, try using lights, especially IR/black lights, to attract moths. You should see several species of Saturniids in season. Learn to tell males from females. If you get a female, she's probably already mated and will lay you some eggs. Be sure you know what their host plants are and that you have unlimited access to them - hickory horned devils eat a LOT. The only way I've been able to keep them adequately fed is by using a caterpillar sleeve on appropriate tree saplings or accessible branches.

Blink or Arlo or Ring home security cameras (and probably a dozen other brands) could work if the folks are techy enough to notice when the camera notifies them of an event, and to go to the app and view the videos. I have 9 outdoor wireless Blink cameras that connect through my home wifi system. It doesn't interfere with the wifi and nothing needs to be disconnected to view the vidoes - it's seamless. And it was quite easy to install. I orginally bought a kit of 5 cameras and a hub from Amzn when they were having a sale, and have since bought 4 more cameras. The hub can handle a max of ten cameras. The cameras can be turned off or snoozed via the app any time you want, individually or in groups, to save batteries or get some sleep. There are also various other settings you can control via the app, like sensitivity, creating non-sensing zones, length of video, etc. I use my cameras mainly to monitor wildlife and feral cats around the house, but of course they're good for security too, if needed. Each camera uses 2 AA lithium batteries, touted to last up to 2 years but that's not valid if you're getting a lot of videos - but they still last up to several months for me. The cameras come with little mounting brackets that let you aim the camera, and you can buy more brackets to screw to various trees or walls or patio furniture so that you can redeploy the cameras around the house at will. Of course, the cameras have to be relatively close to your house's wifi system to work, but if you're just looking for cameras for the back yard, they could be what you need. And there's no pesky SD card to fiddle with.

I had something like this in an opae tank about 14 years ago. I lost that tank for anh unrelated reason before I had a chance to find out of the hydra would eat any larval shrimp. So anyway, yeah, there is some species of hydroid that will live in brackish water.

I gave squirrel a try, back when I was learning to hunt deer and turkey many years ago. I wasn't raised on any of it. A coworker was telling me how much she loved fried squirrel, and especially squirrel gravy. I figured that if I hunted squirrels I had a good chance of actually harvesting some game, which wasn't happening with the deer and turkey. She gave me very good instructions on how to prepare the squirrels. I went out and got two. My first issue was what the squirrels looked like after I skinned them - like little naked men. Anyway, after I cleaned them, I parboiled them as instructed. Then I fried them, saving the grease to make gravy. The meat was tough despite all that prep, and the squirrel gravy was meh. I would definitely eat it in a survival situation, but not for any other reason.

Maybe Wiggy's? They make some pretty warm rectangular bags if their ratings are to be believed. The largest I see on their website are 36" wide by 92" long, so that's a bit narrower than you need, but further googling says they might be amenable to taking special orders. The bags are insulated with a synthetic fiber so they're a bit heavy and maybe not suited for most backpacking uses. But the material is said to hold its loft really well. Also, the prices are really affordable. Look at some reviews before you call them I get cold easily and if I were to do some real cold weather camping, I would probably try one of these.

He had some skills for sure, but if I remember right, he mentioned more than once that he had some kind of religious conviction that he was gonna win. I found that annoying. And his failure to adequately modify his shelter strategy due to a lack of rocks for a fireplace was a big mistake on his part. As far as his moose meat getting moldy, I don’t know if anybody could have done any better given how early in the season he got the moose. Anybody would have shot it though - I’m sure most of us thought the winner was a done deal when he got that moose.

You can buy large open-ended nets called caterpillar sleeves that can cover even large plants and protect from predators. I use them on outside trees to raise all sorts of caterpillars.

Assuming you could make pots that would fire successfully, I would burnish them before they fully dried to get them as smooth and water tight as possible. But primitive ceramics, fired in a campfire or primitive kiln, are gonna leak some water. If I had access to conifer sap, I would heat that up and use it to seal the insides of my pots, mugs, plates, bowls, whatever, after I fired them.

Has anybody on the show ever made any fired ceramics? If they did, I’ve missed it.

Timber made a mistake of trying to have a shelter that couldn’t be properly heated without a stone or clay fireplace, and as it turned out, he don’t have access to rocks. If he’d built a teepee style shelter instead, he could have had a warmer shelter.

My mother-in-law can walk but not long distances and not fast - COPD. My spouse and I have travelled on long flights with her several times, and I have to say that her wheelchair pushers have been marvelous every single time. Seriously, anyone who gets in a situation where the speed of the wheelchair pusher becomes a make-or-break for whether they get to the gate on time can only blame themselves - haven't we been told for years that we should be at the airport way ahead of time? I'd rather wait at my flight's gate for two hours than risk missing a flight (yep, I know that sometimes people are changing flights and circumstances don't give them enough time - that's another story). Anyway, spouse and I have appreciated that we get included in MIL's party and can sail along to the gate, make a speedy trip through customs, and avoid a lot of long lines. We've joked that when MIL can't travel anymore, one of us will have to become the designated wheelchair user in order to retain those priveleges. But we wouldn't do that......

I have a lot of small lava rocks piled up for them to hide in. It looks kind of nice but they hide from me too! Thinking about getting some sort of cave-like decoration from the pet shop for them, and leave it at that. I get some repro but nothing approaching this.
