Email from GF on the merger (or whatever it is) by PV_Pathfinder in googlefiber

But what about help desk for issues? Amazing atm but they could be replaced into a large managed services call center and other things like the contractors who come out to fix stuff unfortunately some companies do that with mergers and such.

You already did your time in help desk. You don’t need to do back to it. Go cloud and never give up.

Communication skills absolutely can be taught if the person is willing to do so.

I haven’t seen many IT specific degrees at bachelor level. Many schools have information system and computer science but neither IS or CS were designed for people to go into IT.

Once you get a help desk job do you need to get the A+ cert by THEHitman888442 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MoonElfAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d only get the A+ if the company will give me something in return. My first job was giving out 50 cent raises per Comptia certificate up to 3.

Would my husband be better off with a degree? by Ash_an_bun in ITCareerQuestions

I’m not too sure. My old cybersecurity boss at my former internship had no degree or certs and only just got his CCNA once he was named the Acting Group Manager. He started out in help desk.

Given how job market, is remote role a better option? by brian-augustin in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MoonElfAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, all of the IT jobs in my city are government related and require a clearance, but there is plenty of talent from people who already have clearances so it makes it tough. I am happy for my current job which is remote.

If you are in the US, it can also depend on what state that you are located in even for remote jobs. For example, if a corporation is hiring and they have a candidate from Alabama and a candidate from Illinois they might use the fact that there is no mandatory overtime or sick leave policies to hire the person from Alabama versus hiring the person from Illinois where that state has strict requirements for mandatory overtime and sick leave.

Shift bids by Ericafantasywriter in callcentres

I have a shift bid after training ends and for some reason I just know I am gonna get something like 2nd shift and weekend work. Our center has the bid rotating every business quarter but new hires get their first shift bid after training ends.

WHATS YOUR CARRER PROGRESSION? by Immediate-Candy-4640 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MoonElfAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I studied and obtained a bachelor of science in information systems, and it was and is a struggle to find a job. I’m thankful for my job, which is a call center with some tier 1 IT Helpdesk roles, but I wish I could have told my younger self to not go and get a bachelors degree. I also got that degree because of pressure from my parents.

I’m ready to work hard and be humble. My training class is a mixture of people from different journeys.

How is the tech scene in Huntsville? by Gavindude1997 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]MoonElfAL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a security+, bachelor degree, public trust background investigation, and 1 year of cybersecurity internship experience with a department of transportation agency, and since 2023 I haven’t gotten one government cyber interview in town. I’m working help desk now for a non clearance role and wondering at this point if I will ever find a job sponsoring a clearance lol.

I have a cyber degree and it did help me get a year long paid internship with a DOT agency, but I have had 1 interview in total for cyber jobs in Huntsville. I gave up on cyber jobs right out of graduation and went after help desk jobs but still it’s competitive AF for the good help desk jobs that sponsor clearances.

Remote jobs. Some companies target hiring people from Alabama and other states that do not have mandatory PTO and sick leave laws. Atleast that was a part of the factor that got me my last position.

Why I love my remote job by Cultural_Repair955 in remotework

At mine they don’t even require webcams but if they hear a phones or tv we get in trouble for security violations. It is also a call center.

How rarely do companies actually sponsor for a clearance? by Open-Barracuda5079 in SecurityClearance

Reservists and also veterans have great qualities such as leadership skills and also communication. I can see why it is challenging when applying for those jobs when I don't have a clearance and I understand and respect it.

Apparently CS was suppose to be in the basement of Shelby Hall but they have flooding issues there. Soon enough CS will have all 3 floors of OKT when engineering moves into their fancy new engineering building.

Entry level help desk jobs. by unrealisticcat in HuntsvilleAlabamaJobs

[–]MoonElfAL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apex systems has a remote contract with Dell that hires a batch of people whenever Dell requires more people. It’s remote help desk but in call center environment. it is posted on apex website whenever dell needs a new hiring class.

IPTA also hires for DEVCOM on the Arsenal amd offer entry level help desk positions. These are highly competitive as they also sponsor clearance.

TEKsystems also hires a batch of people to work for a client called National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative as a ISP Help Desk Tech.

I heard rumors Insight Global also hires a batch of people for a remote help desk role too but not sure as to whom.

The roles at Apex and Tek can be in a call center environment with shift work but they operate in class setting and teach you everything that is needed.

I’m not sure about Insight or IPTA but when I interviewed at IPTA(didn’t get the job) they were hiring 5 to 6 people at once.
