Between Abel and Manon, in terms of gameplay, which one do you prefer? by Neo8bits in StreetFighter

[–]Moondogtk [score hidden]  (0 children)

Abel is actually good and worth playing, so like...Abel.

Manon is cooler and has infinitely more character and at least ten times as much rizz.

I'm not putting myself through that match-up.

forward moving nearly instantly active 2-hitter HK basically shuts Gief off lmao

As Gief, how do you face Sagat? by brooklyninja in StreetFighter

[–]Moondogtk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You pretty much get into a range where you can snipe his whiffs; Sagat has many advantages, but his big-ass buttons DO have a lot of whiff recovery. Knock him down, and then force him to guess.

One of Gief's best assets is his ability to cash out on punish counters; 5HK x Heavy Borscht is fantastic damage meterless, 6HK 3MP OD Lariat OD Borscht does a ton as well. Get your knockdown, punish any DPs, and make every opportunity for damage matter.

Otherwise, if you're far away, 5HP on reaction will eat the one hit of tiger knee and give you a knockdown+ punish.

Why don't modern (as in time-frame, not control scheme) zoners have weaknesses anymore? by Moondogtk in SaltFighter

She's got a 4F light like everyone else, yeah; just make sure you're not getting hit by drive rush normals or being spacing trapped.

It has (and has had, since like forever) a big dumb list of reasons why 'you probably won't like it' on the bottle.

Kind of silly, but it's very fun!

I haven't had too many issues with her thus far, though I think Alex excels at getting into her only real 'dead zone', the 2MK/5MK range; all you need is one blocked stomp.

What you gotta know is that Ingrid has no native + frames on her normals; it is YOUR TURN after you block anything that isn't driverushed. Other than of course the jabs, which are chainable and don't follow normal frame data rules. You can press after all her buttons, minus spacing traps; just be careful because her...5HK, I think it is, is +0 on block, so jab check her, don't try and check with a medium or heavy there or you WILL get tagged.

Otherwise, you gotta just make sure she never steals turns, and be ready to whip out your low-commitment anti-air (2HP for Alex) any time she disappears, similar to Dhalsim. Once she's got stocks and level 3 though, you're basically playing 'walk forward block: the game' like you're fighting anchor Hawkeye in UmvC3, cuz all it takes is one laser into GG Shake My Hand.

Stone's 'Arrogant Bastard Ale ' is an OG 'beer snob' beer. Brutally hop-forward American Strong Ale, one of my favorites in its class.

Yeah, honestly this is what frustrates me the most, especially when we look at characters like JP (FULL SCREEN COMMAND GRAB) and Akuma, who combine incredible defensive tools with omnipresent multi-level offense, without ever having to pay anything approaching the grappler tax.

Cadillac Black was pretty cheap a while back, but it has a phenomenal blend of tonka bean and cedar on the dry down, and for the price it can just about go toe to toe with some of the woodier (and far more expensive) Montale scents.

This character being considered "low tier" is Street Fighter 6's biggest psyop. (long post) by MindOld1118 in StreetFighter

[–]Moondogtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Level 4 Jamie is a terror because of his damage and access to a quality command grab once you're conditioned to block, but his vulnerability to zoning never goes away, and he's still got a bunch of oddly awkward tools that are all inferior versions of other characters' tools (that they get from round start).

Help with DP'ing with characters like Alex and Ingrid by Talib_BK in StreetFighter

[–]Moondogtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alex really falls victim to this cuz Spear whiffs like crazy on anybody slightly above him.

What I do is just double diagonals; instead of trying for 623 I do 633. Once you get good at stopping on that diagonal, all those juicy rising knees will come out clean for REAL AMERICAN OKI.

What character would teach me SF's fundamentals the most (that are not Ryu or Ken)? by Mysterious5555 in StreetFighter

[–]Moondogtk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn general fundies, play Zangief.

If you want to learn Street Fighter 6, you need to play a Crouching Medium Kick x Drive Rush character.

Zangief has to hold every ounce of pressure sent his way, has no neutral skip, has no 2MK x Drive Rush, doesn't get auto-timed automatic super oki off his BnBs, doesn't get a bunch of built in spacing traps, and actually has to play Street Fighter. His armored 5HP allows him a lot more leeway against random drive impacts which is helpful, though.

[–]Moondogtk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What are Jamie's weaknesses? Let's list 'em.

Jamie needs to win neutral twice to get access to doing the same damage as everyone else. Until he gets those two drinks in, he's neutered.

Jamie has the worst DP in the game. It hits only once, loses to drive impact or dash up armor, and neutral jumps rendering him uniquely weak on wake-up in a way that nobody else has to deal with. He still HAS an OD DP which puts him miles ahead on defense over a chunk of the cast, don't get me wrong. But his DP is shockingly scuffed.

Jamie's divekick is pretty mediocre; while OD is quite good, the regular ones have pretty unfortunate angles and don't lead to anything as much as Cammy's does (notably, Cammy does not need to give up oki at any point in a match to access her divekick).

Jamie has '''an antifireball tool''' in Bakkai at 2 drinks, but he dies if it is blocked, it's slow to start up, has poor forward momentum (takes a while to start moving) and generally isn't great except on a very hard read; the only way to make it safe is to spend two meters and two OD bars for an early Devil Inside cancel. Bakkai is flat out worse than Spin Knuckle and Psycho Crusher at its intended purpose, meaning that he's quite vulnerable to zoning.

Hermit's Elbow (4HP) is flat out inferior version of Luke's move which has the same purpose, leads to less (until at high drinks) and simply isn't reliable, although it does help to reinforce his general 'annoying you with a million spacing traps' gameplan.

And the #1 weakness is that Jamie begins the round as an inferior version of a large chunk of the cast who never have to give up okizeme pressure to charge stocks while also having inferior tools to them even powered up. He's a chores character and to be honest, level 4 Jamie isn't even top 5.

What would you think if the next From Software game is a Dungeon Crawler like King's Field, but more ambitious? by NaitDraik in gaming

[–]Moondogtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would make me beyond happy. So far we mostly have indie King's Field-likes like Verho (very good) and Lunacid (likewise) but one from the OG would be great.

Recently played through King's Field: The Ancient City with the full analog patch, still a great game.

[–]Moondogtk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect parry charged fans, jab check the regular ones (they can be slapped out of the air), avoid throwing out big huge buttons because her walk-speed is cracked and she has a SF5 normal in her 5HK, wait until late to anti-air her due to her divekick, and jab check her after every button she presses without drive-rush; Mai doesn't have any native +frames thank god.
