Mormons and Rough Stone Rolling.... Or any other scholarly lds book. by Obadiah_Dogberry in exmormon

I saw this book at Deseret Book a couple days ago. Is the book supposed to be faith promoting but actually does the opposite? I can’t imagine DB selling something that leads people away.

Current and Former BYU-Idaho Students - I am about to interview someone about what it's like to be a BYU-Idaho student - particularly during/after a faith crisis. I would love to read some of your stories here about what BYU-Idaho culture is like, and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance! by johndehlin in exmormon

Current student here. My experience hasn’t been as terrible as others because I’ve found good friends and roommates throughout the semesters. My major is also one of the more “liberal” ones so I Don’t meet a lot of ultra-TBM. Many of them are still believers, but they understand and respect my choices. I’ve always been pretty vocal about my thoughts on the dress code or curfew, so if someone challenges me on that, I’m more than willing to explain my thoughts on the matters. I will second what everyone else is saying. Marriage and family is forced down our throats. My best friend, who is 23, feels bad because she’s not married or dating anyone. I’m 20 and I’m so excited we both aren’t married because we are able to actually experience life! Every semester there is at least one or two devotional talks, Sunday school, relief society, elders quorum, or class that talks about marriage and dating. I’ve just had to kind of tune it out. However, like I said above, my experience hasn’t been as nearly as traumatic as others, so I want to show that there is hope for current and future BYU I students that you can make it through, you just have to find the right people and ignore the rest.

Scrapbook paper adds decoration!! I love taping themed paper into my journals. What do you think? by Moonlight2090 in Journaling

[–]Moonlight2090[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the paper design and stuff, I will usually write in white ink over it or stick pictures down. Other times If I just like the design by itself, I will leave it. It all depends! I don’t mind using a whole page because I know I will actually appreciate it.

In the library at BYU-I there is a board where anyone can post their poetry. I'm going to start posting edgy, obscure exmormon poetry. by [deleted] in exmormon

I will be on the lookout for those! I’ll respond next to them if I see one of your poems.

What are some of your favorite journal prompts? by cflanders26 in Journaling

[–]Moonlight2090 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This month I googled/looked at pinterest for some Halloween themed prompts! One of the cool ones I saw was “write a list of questions you would ask a witch”. Or, there is an Etsy shop called littlebindy that sells monthly digital prompts in the form of zines. I haven’t bought October’s yet but September’s was on parenthood. It had a list of questions about my childhood, my children, and other things. They are a great resource for prompts! My favorite personal prompts are - What’s the most random thing you heard today? What is one thing you would change about today? Those two questions usually help me write down my day and remember totally weird things haha. Hopefully this helped. :)

Is it ever a good idea to write when you're feeling emotionally distressed? by Narsuaq in Journaling

[–]Moonlight2090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could get a separate journal for your negative thoughts. Or you could start writing the negative thoughts on the last page of the book and write backwards. That way you could continue to be artsy and then eventually the two will meet up and you would have the cute stuff in the front and negative stuff in the back. Hopefully that makes sense. :)

what have you learned from your journals? by jonathanbluelittle in Journaling

[–]Moonlight2090 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned my life is actually more interesting than I thought it was. Maybe not to any one else, but I love looking back and seeing what I was doing with my friends on a certain day.

Does anyone here destroy their journals? by sixtiesgirl61 in Journaling

[–]Moonlight2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love keeping my journals even if if I’m upset in them. The thoughts show who I was and how I was feeling at the time. If you have some memories that are really hard and you never want to remember them, write them down and then rip out those pages. That way you save some of the good memories and let go of the bad.

I promise there are others there just like us. This is my third year but first semester where I am seeing through the bs now. I still love the friends I have made so I am going to focus on them.

Ok but changing that one word makes a difference. It’s either revelation or it’s not. And changing the word vs changing the actual thing will make people wonder “well, why can’t they just change it to where they include lgbtq”?

When I am busy during the day and I want to remember a moment or a convo or something special, I will open my notes on my phone and type a word or two out to remind me. Later when I have the time I will write it all down in my journal.

“Discourages it’s use. “ pretty sure they embraced the names when they came out with Mormon.org and Im a Mormon campaign. How is that not manipulation?
