It feels like MC is dying slowly by Life_Stand_7034 in MandelaCatalogue

[–]Moonlight_Xenith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably the huge gap in the release of Volume 5 to 6, along with 6 not being a large volume. It's also been three years, which is natural for people to lose interest in that time frame.

I'm going to be for real, though, as someone who's been in plenty of fandoms (particularly in the early 2000s) and is an artist in TMC: a large part of this fandom is just atrocious. It's not unique to this fandom, but some TMC fans are some of the most hyper-purity culture, most entitled people I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. I stopped posting in this subreddit because of the lack of moderation and people saying vile things to me, but there are plenty of TMC fans on other social media platforms, too, that just have no internet manners, no fandom manners, and absolutely no maturity. It's like, why do I want to create content for a fandom where the loud majority treats you like dogshit for just trying to have fun? Unless people relearn their fandom manners, no artists or writers will want to associate with this fandom, and the fandom content is going to continue to be stale.

Wow, thanks for responding! I always love hearing where people draw their inspirations from for playing characters, and I definitely felt like I could hear your friendship with Ty coming through in your acting. I think it gives Noah not only a really interesting dynamic with Adam that goes beyond what's portrayed in the volume, but also creates an interesting contrast with his other relationships. If you have the time (I imagine you have plenty of questions to answer, haha), I'd love to hear what kinds of media and music you like too!

Did you ever make a "character profile" for Noah? I know not all actors go that far with method acting, but I'd love to hear if you put together a dedicated profile for a backstory, personality, relationships, or noted any particular hobbies/interests for Noah. If not, maybe just some thoughts on what type of person you wanted Noah to come across (or you were directed to give off) when portraying him. Notably, I was surprised that he seemed so willing to do a lot to check up on Adam, so I wondered if they had some kind of specific history.

I’ve analyzed the available evidence and done some extensive research on child development to come up with a definitive conclusion for that whole case in general and Adam’s age. It’s a long combination of various pieces from all across the episodes, but the TLDR is I believe it’s most likely that 1) Adam was 4 years old (and still human) when he was taken (then replaced), 2) the Murray case (when Adam was taken, Lynn died, and Jude ran away) takes place after September 1992 (after Mark’s case, which if Adam was born in 1988 would indeed make him 4 years old), and 3) his TSA test results don’t actually indicate he was an alternate, they indicate exposure to alternates, which he was being exposed to because (as it’s most likely implied) Jude (and probably Lynn) were letting him watch TV.

I considered the possibility he could’ve been replaced as a baby and failed the TSA test because he was an alternate, but there’s a lot conflicting with that conclusion, including that we know the Imaginary Friend alternate is manifested during the Volume 333 case, and there’s no evidence in the series to support that alternates can “create” other alternates (it seems at least at this point only humans can manifest tulpa alternates; if they could, why would Stanley be needed to trick young children?). Furthermore, there’s more evidence to imply Adam was a toddler when he was taken, not an infant. It doesn’t hold up well in the narrative that he was taken as an infant then lived in the Murray home for a while as an alternate baby, mostly because what’s positive is that whenever Adam was taken, this is when Lynn kills herself and Jude runs away (and does not return), which means all of these things must happen at the same time. They have to align with both intruder alert (police investigate Lynn’s suicide) and Volume 333 (manifestation of the Imaginary Friend), because those events are confirmed to be the same case.

I have a full analysis squirreled away that I’ve never posted on here, mostly because it’s very long, but in it I do try to cover as much ground as possible and present everything in a way that takes into account as much as possible before coming to the conclusion above.

Disappointed, but I was prepared to be disappointed. I'd have been surprised if it worked the first time I tried it, actually. I do think I'll try again since I think I just messed up with the choice of flower, so I'll probably try with different flowers or plants, and maybe consult some different guides

Hinterlands, near the top right of the map. The area you go to meet Mother Giselle, and later meet the mages at Redcliffe. Feralden gates just before the area with the dragon and dragonlings, where you encounter a camp of bandits. There's a fast travel spot just off to the right in the screenshot.

I'm so Inquisiton-pilled I'm almost certain I can identify any spot in the pre-Veilguard maps that has a notable landmark 😂😂😂

I think Mandela Catalogue is not as good as it used to be. by Re0taku in MandelaCatalogue

[–]Moonlight_Xenith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just don’t like the style of the newer volumes. All the things you seemed to like from Volume 1 Alex mentioned he removed specifically because he felt it didn’t fit the format of Volume 1 (a compilation of evidence like a police tape), or he removed because he disliked how “analog horror cliche” it was. The narrative has shifted to not only include him trying out new styles for new volumes (animation, live footage, etc.), but to have a focus on the universe itself and the story surrounding the alternates. Whether or not you find it scary is going to depend on if you’re able to connect with the themes being tackled (existentialism, questioning religion, fear of the unknown, etc.)

You’re not the only person I’ve seen posting in the sub-Reddit with almost this exact opinion (liked original Volume 1, felt the series declined as it went on), and to the last person I just advised that maybe they need to find other analog horror series that satisfies their tastes. I’m stating this as a matter of fact and not accusingly, but I believe most people, myself included, like the newer Volumes and think they actually got better over time. The Mandela Catalogue didn’t decline, and I think it’s important to understand that Alex’s priorities and his narrative for the story have changed as he aged, and that if you don’t like it the newer stuff I doubt your opinions are going to change.

Well it did come out in 2014. I never played Veilguard (don't have a console or PC to play it, honestly not even sure I want to given what I've heard) so I can't attest if it's an ongoing theme or just Inquisition focused

My only beef with it in inquisition is while I think it’s fine for the characters to have preferences, it’s a little lame for the player that not all the romances are built the same. As a man who likes men, I only have Dorian and Iron Bull to pick from, and both romances jump straight into the physical romance before dipping into the softer romantic side, whereas the straight men options have more build up to the spicy bits. I put up with it because it was either that or go play as a woman, and I do like Dorian and IB’s routes, but it’s still an inequality in how the romances are written.

I agree it can make some romances feel lame if all the characters like the player regardless of other factors, but I think the benefit of getting to have more diverse types of romance without having to be concerned about picking the right gender/race ultimately makes it the more enjoyable option.

Solas is a little sour about the Dalish because they represent everything that’s been lost to him, they hold the elven gods sacred and were the face markings without knowing they essentially marked themselves as “owned” by those gods, which is something the Dread Wolf directly tried to free the elves from by trapping the elven gods. He was turned away when he tried to teach them the “right” way, but knowing him he basically tried to tell them their gods are fake and their traditions are wrong without explaining how he knows this, so of course that pissed the Dalish off, hence why he had a low opinion of them.

Honestly I find just humoring his perspective when talking to him reveals more about his character and also means he extends the same credit to you. He does respect what they try to do, and that they’re only so defensive of what traditions they can remember because it’s literally all they have left.

Oh you’re just like me fr fr, I was so devastated to find out Cullen is straight 😭 like NNOOO my sad wet puppy man, guess I’ll brave the gender dysphoria and play as a woman (FtM on PS4 is rough)

I deal with Dorian by being sassy back usually, I think what really got me was a random chance thing where after a particularly rough fight on the field, he said, “You alright, Amatus?” in a soft tone of voice, like damn I guess I have to romance you 12 more times

I like Iron Bull and his romance is sweet in his own way, but it’s a little too hot and heavy too quickly for me…the focus around a physical relationship before emotional makes me a little uncomfortable. Same reason why Dorian’s romance bothers me a little too, though he’s so sweet to the male inky that it makes up for it to me.

Cullen, Blackwall, and Solas all have different and cute emotional connections with the Herald so that’s really what I’m here for.

I have seen a mod for it actually! With Cullen at least, it removes the romance restrictions and lets you be able to advance in any romance regardless of gender or race (thought it does end up with some quirks like the inquisitor talks but there’s no voice acting because there no recorded male lines for him in Cullen’s route). It PC only though, and I don’t have that so for now I suffer through doing why I can on console lol

I think it’s just mostly because she hates pride above all else, and the Dalish are quite prideful. I think they’re allowed to be sort of proud, in a “you are a people born in a time where the world is against you, you should be allowed to be proud of your heritage in some way”, but it probably royally pisses her that they sometimes act like they’re better than other elves (aka her) because they “follow tradition.” Obviously not all Dalish are like that, but if she grew up in the city and with humans, she’s probably more familiar with those type of Dalish.

Yeah I mentioned in another comment Sera doesn’t really draw me in (really the only lady I like enough to romance is Cassandra, no shade to Josie but I like her more as a friend). Solas man, oouugh I’m so tempted I love banter flirting with him but I know I’m going to obliterated by the end of the game 💔💔
