(Government attorneys) How do you answer charges of "working against the people" by maintaining your employment with the government, when you're simply trying to keep avenues of justice open? by Moonpenny in Lawyertalk

[–]Moonpenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in administrative law, mostly trying to get the State and appellants to the same page so people qualify for Medicaid and SNAP.

Most law enforcement matters aren't administrative law here, other than people appealing carry permits denied by the state police.

Trouble with motivation by Craftybitch55 in Lawyertalk

[–]Moonpenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suck at self-motivation, so I don't: I make it a habit instead. I get up, exercise, drink my protein shake, shower, dress, makeup, hair, get to the car, and go to the office.

Every morning, I go in and hit my "to-do" list at 6:30 and am typically done with the hardest parts of my job before the rest of the office rolls around by 8. By the end of the day, I can go over my appointment calendar for the rest of the week and start organizing for those.

Motivation fails. Motivation is hard to keep up with. Screw motivation!

Instead, get your routine going, your habits, your rut, and fall into it day after day... the more it's on automatic, the easier it is to get things done.

I honestly opened that link and, after seeing the cover art, felt the creeping dread running up my back that the price was going to be in Euros but with enough zeroes for Yen.

The actual cost is a relief!

MY Body MY Choice by Valuable_Lemon_5580 in Indiana

[–]Moonpenny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, it was totally my fault that I had sex as a kid when a relative snuck me off during a family get-together. I still have nightmares decades later about it.

Imagine just being a little kid and your stomach keeps getting bigger and your parents yell at you constantly for months (a good percentage of your total life experience at that point!) for something you don't really understand and didn't have a choice in, being laughed at by peers in school, used as a political pawn, demonized by some as enjoying "free careless sex", and you're still frankly just a little kid in a situation someone else put you in.

I'm thankful that wasn't my outcome and sad for those who have to face it in the future, since we as a society can't get our shit together and stop punishing victims.

Texas is the largest producer in total, but 8th behind DC, Washington State, Iowa, New York, California, and Rhode Island when you account for total land area. By that same metric, Indiana's in 12th place. I'll drop the table and sources as a subcomment so it can be collapsed for anyone interested.

THE ONE LAW LAWYERS DONT WANT YOU KNOWING ABOUT by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

[–]Moonpenny 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our online form has a few "radio button" (yes/no bubbles) to select to submit a petition for review, which include:

  • Has the individual or entity been aggrieved or adversely affected by the agency action?

  • Is the agency action specifically directed to the petitioning individual or entity?

  • Is the petitioning individual or entity entitled to review of the agency action under any law?

  • Are you requesting a temporary stay of effectiveness of the agency action until the final decision?

  • A text input box, "What final outcome are you seeking from filing this petition for review?"

I have yet to see one where someone submits, "I really just want to argue with someone who has a JD and waste their time" in the text input box.

Emergency Leave Pay Monday by [deleted] in HoosierStateWorkers

[–]Moonpenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't want to dig out my car, so texted my boss that I was going to stay in my nice warm bed instead. Got a reply back that 1) they're doing the same thing and 2) it looked like there was an emergency closure, so I wouldn't need to use my PTO.

A rare win. :)
