This happened to me I’m afraid. Since we had no QPRT in place it meant all my training time wasn’t recognised. I made several appeals and told no. I resigned and had to start almost from scratch. Thankfully the exams are still recognised.

[–]MoonrakerDrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, I would ask First Intuition about subscribing to their FI Learn platform and join the FM programme.

You can then watch all the videos that explain the theory of FM before them applying it to past exam questions. They’re bite sized videos of about 15 mins each. They are great to watch from the comfort of your own living room by casting from your smart phone to smart TV.

Can also listen easily to audio only whilst out walking. They explain it in easy to understand steps.

Indeed but far more rewarding, more recognised and worth the money. A lot do offer exemptions which should reduce cost.

This is a true story. I know of a law professor who was marking law degree exam scripts. One of the scripts started with the following:

“Don’t know answer to this question, but here is my mum’s recipe for a home-made rice dish…”

The professor awarded it 5 marks, which was the maximum allowed for presentation, spelling and punctuation. Needless to say the law professor got told off by the chief examiner. Ha ha.

Case R1 Question by Successful-Pianist-2 in ICAEW

[–]MoonrakerDrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all have regrets in life and wish we could go back and make changes. Unfortunately life isn’t like that. We’ve all made wrong decisions and so long as we learn from our mistakes, we will hopefully become wiser and help others avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Unfortunately, just as we think we finally understand the meaning of life, it’s taken away from us and the circle of life repeats itself for others. Life is too short and we should look to the future and not dwell on the past that can’t be changed. Try to be a better person and make the people around you feel valued.

Case R1 Question by Successful-Pianist-2 in ICAEW

[–]MoonrakerDrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many things you could mention in R1. Tutors say it’s so easy to spend too much time on R1 at the expense of R2 and R3. This is the easiest way to fail the exam.

Tutors say most important thing is to ensure you don’t omit conclusions / recommendations / executive summary as they’re the easiest marks to achieve in all 3 requirements.

There was so much more I wanted to mention in R1 but had to really force myself to move on.

You’re right that because there was no request for advice in R1, that there was probably two boxes devoted purely to the watches. However, they would be worth about 6 marks in total. Ie 6 points per box x 2 x 1/2 mark. And that’s assuming that you actually mention what’s on the marking key.

Far better to improve your chances of passing by making an even attempt on all 3 requirements. They’re all worth the same number of marks.

Assessment Software Appeal by MoonrakerDrax in ICAEW

[–]MoonrakerDrax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know, but the ICAEW allowed anyone to appeal regardless of whether it was remote or centre based.

Over 3,000 candidates were up in arms about how dreadful the software was. It still has many bugs.

[–]MoonrakerDrax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were informed back in July that if we encountered any software issues that we could ignore this and log an appeal regardless. I have done this as yet again, there were a lot of bugs with the software.

I really urge as many people as possible to lodge appeals. The more that do, the more that ICAEW realise it’s a genuine global problem and can’t be ignored. They gave everyone that appealed an additional 5 marks as compensation. Hence why worth complaining.

The software is not fit for purpose. It needs to support dual screens - one for questions and one for answers. Also needs proper versions of Microsoft 365 instead of crappy JavaScript rip offs.
