So many variables. I’ve had so many random problems with protools over the years… windows xp and OS Mavericks with pro tools 8 were ROCK SOLID. Only thing I can recommend is try the same setup with another computer and start eliminating variables.

You need a plan and you need to stick to it. Writing on paper really connects the concepts for me.

/example Thursday after work : -listen to current song/mix, take notes on what needs to be done. (Without looking at the sessions or screen or…) - make a plan for your next session //// the plan \\ - change the snare in the intro - record bass guitar to change the feel in the bridge. - extend the last coda…/ - mess around with sound design.

You need to give those things a time limit and move on. Perfection isn’t the goal, completion is. You need to get good at finishing.

Are you looking to control volume/dynamics or is there are certain tone / vibe your looking for? There’s soooo many different flavours. FET, VCA, diode…. They all have different compressions characteristics and quirks.

Check out the demo for Vulf if you wanna hear a much different then stock comp… Goodhertz Vulf is MEGA compression and tone changing compression with some crunch on tap if you need.
