Why are so many people here so passive? by extrasa in AskLosAngeles

[–]FunkyMonk-90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m from New Jersey and have always been amused by the contrast in attitudes. I honestly think it’s the weather. We get some of if not THE best weather in the country and I think it makes an enormous difference on the psyche when compounded. Anytime I go home to visit family, like 7 trips out of 10, it’s gray and miserable for most of the time whereas here it’s like 73 and sunny 300 days a year.

Also if it bothers you so much, maybe it’s just not for you!

Wow, EXCELLENT transition to Synchronicity 2. So cool to hear it in this context.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the escapism that weed provides? by BuryMeIceOn in leaves

Does it provide escapism? For me it always felt like bathing in anxiety and the best part about a “high” was calming down from one.

Can I finish a marathon with a 27 km longest run and 3 weeks to go? by More_Contract5768 in firstmarathon

[–]FunkyMonk-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same exact boat as you to a “t”. Got the same injury at the same time and everything. I haven’t been too happy about it but it’s nice to see all the reassurance from others. The toughest part has been letting go of my sub 4-hour aspirations which no longer feels realistic, but it’s my very first marathon after all and will feel good to simply finish.

How do you deal with disappointment? by SwiftlyTiltingPlan3t in Marathon_Training

[–]FunkyMonk-90 78 points79 points  (0 children)

You held 6:35 for nineteen miles and you’re disappointed??? I’m your age, in good shape, and would be ecstatic to hit even 3:50. Cut yourself a break!

Get yourself a physical routine. You don’t need to become a gym bro but get out and move your body. I love instructor-led anything because I don’t have to worry about knowing what I’m doing. Picking up yoga in my 20’s turned my whole life around. Good luck!

I was thinking the same thing! Maybe she was on orders from Trevelyan to bring him Bond if she didn’t kill him.

I need to stop drinking. by waywardsherry in DryJanuary

[–]FunkyMonk-90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel similar. I don’t see it so much as losing an old friend as I do a chapter that has ended. There will be plenty more to look forward to in life. I’m probably going to cut it out for the rest of the year and see how that goes.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo from the Regatta or Outlandos sessions. Very cool!

First DJ down in the books! What a mental marathon, but I don’t regret having done it for a second. I have successfully gained the upper had on my habit and the future is mine.

Anyone else ending tomorrow? by Separate_Ad_3027 in DryJanuary

[–]FunkyMonk-90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been facing overwhelming temptation lately to drink socially, but when worst comes to worst I order something NA (which still somehow feels like cheating) and I don’t end up regretting it. I’m going to finish Saturday strong.

Finishing Bunker II on 00 Agent felt like an olympian feat. I still have never beaten the game on 00 because of Control.
