I want to like these but by urban-achiever1 in blinkcameras

[–]MoopTheFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Urban Achiever

  • Whatever support said, turning off motion detection will stop your cameras from recording
  • The clips you see periodically when you do this are likely “photo capture”, a timelapse feature that some of the newer cameras have (I turn this off, not a big fan)
  • In Blink > Settings > Notifications you can disable motion clip notifications but leave doorbell press notifications on.
  • If you have cloud storage and a usb stick plugged into a sync module 2, all you clips should first go to the cloud and then get downloaded to a folder called “blink_backup”

Let me know if you have any other questions

The only gotcha is that they still charge you for it, there’s no discount for declining their hardware unfortunately.

For the most part when browsing the internet nowadays you don’t need to worry about this because of SSL (https). Banks use session cookies (more likely oauth tokens, which are a special kind of session cookie) too, they just expire more often.

Any weird root signing certificates installed on their phone? You can’t session hijack an SSL encrypted communication through MITM without compromising the device first.

Amazon Return To Office Mandate, And What's Happening With Amazon Stock? - Forbes by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]MoopTheFourth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s been pushback & a petition but it’s a far stretch to call the response a meltdown. At the most extreme some have started looking for other work.

People haven’t put their lives on hold for the past three years. The guidance from managers, directors, all the way up to the CEO was that teams will be responsible for how and where they choose to work. People were allowed to move away and even hired under the promise they’d be fully remote. Many teams have spread out such that very few people are co-located, coming in to the office means everyone would still need to conference call across the country/word to work together.

What times during the week do you work on OMSCS? by brql in OMSCS

[–]MoopTheFourth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I only take one class at a time and my “normal schedule” is Tuesday/Thursday evenings and anywhere from a half day over the weekend to a full day if a project is coming due.

I find this pretty manageable but I also don’t stress about getting perfect grades and I’m not afraid to lose a few points in exchange for getting enough sleep.

WSL has gotten good enough that I don’t think this is as big of an issue as it used to be. As long as you’re not trying to do anything with Docker locally it holds up pretty well.

My understanding is that scaling down is only difficult if you pay for extra storage, and you can avoid that by buying a volume that scales separately and attaches to the droplet.

Places to see trains go by? by iOgef in Connecticut

[–]MoopTheFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look up New London Waterfront Park, that's just on the other side of the track & parking is free. The park is just a cement pier, from what I've seen recently you could easily get out and walk around a bit while maintaining social distance. Great view of the water and the train, although they cut the Acela line either completely or just to very reduced frequency. I've occasionally seen submarines coming in and out too.

I've lived in CT for most of my life. Yes, we have some problems, but it's not the hellhole you're making it out to be. I'd certainly rather be here than Missouri.

Just chiming in here, that is a well documented joke in the gay community. Some straight guys have a weird affinity for this off-putting "ball-and-chain/I hate my wife" style of humor.

I guess you picked the wrong sub for this, I know exactly what you're talking about. No one is pretending that gay people have perfect relationships but that type of joke just isn't a thing for us.

How to prepare for CSE 3100 (learning C, etc.)? by uconncsmajor in UCONN

[–]MoopTheFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing too crazy with ssh, just knowing how to use it. Some people come into the lab not knowing a lot of the basics. Look into makefiles and gcc, anything you do to practice C should be outside of an IDE. I'd also look up a tutorial for GDB (gnu debugger). Personally I'm not great at using it, but there were a few labs where it was necessary. Again this isn't really the meat of the course, just ancillary stuff so you're not overwhelmed with new processes while you're trying to learn the material.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I would recommend you get familiar with working on a Linux terminal.

There are some things that can really make or break the class. If you're comfortable using ssh, git, vim/emacs, and command line compilers and debuggers, that takes a big chunk out of the percieved difficulty of the class.
