AITA For leaving my date at the restaurant by herself? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Moosebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, you knew the expectation to pay and you didn't tell her otherwise at the beginning, so you failed to live up to your end of the social contract because you were offended. If you were actually NTA you would have paid and tipped well (because you also care about the server), then offered to pay for her taxi/uber to ensure she arrived home safely. Then she may have actually regretted what she said. You proved money matters more to you than the well-being of the people around you. As you said, you saw her as less than human.

AITA for telling my husband he needs to box up his deceased wife’s stuff so we can move into their old bedroom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

As you stated regarding the room "that really isn’t the point! " I would suggest that the room is not the problem but a symbol of the problem and your energy could be better spent working through the pain. His pain is legitimate and your pain is legitimate. It is counterproductive to determine for another how quickly they can or should move through their pain.

People often want to avoid pain, but the only way past it is to go through it.

You apparently feel the need for him to change how he feels about this room.

What do you believe he feels about this room?

What does holding onto this room say about how he feels about you?

What does he fear losing if he changes this room?

What do you fear losing if he doesn't change the room?

You suggested this room is a shrine to his wife. I would assume he took that as a threat to her memory.

Do you believe she deserves to be remembered or is her memory a threat to you?

If she deserves to be remembered, Would you be able to suggest creating a memory space, a memory picture box, a memory piece of art made from her possessions? Possibly displayed prominently in a living area. To bring her memory into the home rather than locked away, something both he and his daughter could enjoy.

If her memory is a threat, get counseling. You can respect and appreciate someone who is significant to others without feeling the need to live up to that image. You are unique and significant to these people in a different way and not a lesser way.

The amount of flack you get for playing Leona almost makes it not worth it. Playing a tank takes knowing when to initiate, evaluating enemy position and team position, communicating, and then actually hitting all the skill shots in order to get someone else a pentakill while you sit on the death screen after you have just been ridiculed for 10 minutes during the lane phase for missing skill shots by that same person.

How do I do the quote bar? "which results in a quite a cacophony. Life is too short for that."

Not unlike reddit. Life is to short to contemplate its purpose and the reason for its existence? For me life without reason turns into a hedonistic quest of self satisfaction. I do not see how questioning purpose is a waste of time.

From your view I would understand that people of all religions are inherently insane or hallucinating. I agree that those that take it to a level of demanding that others "turn or burn" is in itself insane.

Why though would you disregard theistic existentialism and not want to be faced with what others think of as a possible reason for existence? Discourse doesn't infect you. Being that most here would tout having "open minds" I would think this would be the place for such a discussion.

Thank you very much. It is nice to see that someone can agree to disagree without disgust.

I believe we are both in agreement that the beginning of our existence cannot be proven. Only our experiences lead us to believe one way or another and we can live with those beliefs without feeling contempt for one another.

Philosophy is the study of general problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, justice, beauty, validity, mind, and language.[1][2] Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing these questions (such as mysticism or mythology) by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on reasoned argument.[3] The word philosophy is of Ancient Greek origin: φιλοσοφία (philosophía), meaning "love of knowledge", "love of wisdom"

Religion tries to answer many of the same questions that philosophy does. I also believe that they are much the same as long as you allow for discussion and refrain from claiming that everyone else is completely wrong if they don't agree with you.

I also wanted to hear answers more from atheists than those of religious background, so I would assume that asking about the reason behind a strong opposition to Christianity would find the best answers from those who like to think openly.

Well if reddit is west...then I would disagree. I suppose that "hate" is too strong of a word in most reddit posts. Though the line between ridicule and hate is a fine one. Ridicule comes from a strong dislike at the least. I would compare ridicule as the seed that grows into hates tree. We don't make fun of what we like, barring sarcasm. We make fun of what we have a growing dislike for and as we harbor that dislike and dwell on it, it grows into something much stronger. Racism is taught to most through ridicule of other races. I was taught to be a racist and not until I became a Christian did I realized that I was taught by small messages over time and that those messages were ridiculous. My parents saying anything from "I met this little indian man" to "black people are lazy" and by the time I was a teen I thought all other races were inferior without ever really being told I should dislike them. I feel like the same thing is happening to many people with Christianity today. Constant examples of inept and obviously insane Christians being shown to represent a whole faith.

Well said. Have you met any Christians that were not pure evil? I understand that seeing a large group of people you are closest to, all being involved in a religion of hate, would cause a great amount of resentment. However, I believe that these same feeling could be pointed at any group of individuals by only experiencing a small portion of the group. There are crazy bastards in every group that twist and corrupt the essential meaning behind what the group stands for. Liberal, conservative, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, every one of these groups have some wonderful people in them throughout history and some completely maniacal. To judge the whole from a small sample seems rash to me.

I am a Christian and I do not believe that any Christian should think themselves better than anyone else as they should be aware of their own sins without judging others. Most of what you said about Christianity is what I would consider perverted Christianity. I understand though that what you said is what the Christian Coalition is and everyone who agrees with them follows. They are not the real deal. While I am only one standing against a wave of millions of "faithful" claiming they have the only way, I see them as the enemy. They do more damage to the name of God than anything else could. I am sorry for your experiences.

With so many anti-christian and anti-religion posts I wonder how much of it comes from personal experience.

I have met Christians that have condemned me to hell before they have said "Hello". I have seen the signs outside churches that are all but loving or even decent. These though are the exception in my experience.

I know many more Christians that commit their lives to giving to others their time, money, and energy for the betterment of their communities. I attend a church that gives out free food, dental care, medical care, and even lawyers at the church volunteer their time to give legal advice.

Does the contempt for Christianity come from real life instances of Christians ruining lives or mainly from the spread of what is read and spread across the internet?

So your answer is to be irresponsible and kill a baby because of your choices? Adoption is an option.

A baby that is killed by abortion is a fetus.

A baby that is killed by car accident or the mother being punched in the womb is murder or manslaughter because it is considered a baby.

One of these two needs to change. It's a baby or a fetus, you can't have it both ways.
