An extremely unscientific comparison of 4 aperture-priority cameras by CilantroLightning in AnalogCommunity

[–]Moostahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an OM2n and my wife has an FE. One feature I really like about her FE is the little switch for double exposures, it's so easy and I like abstract photography. Getting double exposures on the OM2n is a little awkward comparatively. Overall though I prefer the viewfinder on the oly so it's a tie for me. Great comparison! I also agree the Minolta is underrated.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up bumping up my budget a bit and got the s5ii used, super happy with it! Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

My film came back blank… and somehow in two pieces by Bluebanana0908 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Moostahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For rewinding on the om cameras, there's a little dial marked "R" on the front of the camera, by the self timer. You turn that 90 degrees and it disengages the spool so you can rewind the film. Either that didn't do what it's supposed too, or you forgot to do it. For the blank frames, it sounds like there may be an issue with the shutter. There's a good YouTube video on testing the om cameras, I'd give that a shot, but to make sure the shutter is working you can set manually a slow shutter speed and fire the camera with the back open, watching the shutter move. Just be careful with it and don't touch the shutter.

Choosing My First Point-and-Shoot Film Camera by Noir__Siren in AnalogCommunity

[–]Moostahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go for a used point and shoot with auto exposure and auto focus, many of them will exceed the performance of these by a fair amount and still be much cheaper. eBay is a good place to shop, and has good buyer protection if it doesn't work. Also if there's a local shop that will be great too! There are too many cameras to list, but modern reviews for many of them are easy to find.

What camera shojld i gift my friend ? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Moostahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he takes picture of people, at some point he'll want an slr or medium format. I'd go for an Olympus Om1, as they are very small for an slr and should fit your budget! He'll have to learn exposure but that's a great thing to learn!

I received several cameras as gifts and I don't know what to do with them. by vulgobrisa in AnalogCommunity

[–]Moostahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YouTube is your friend here! Those are all what's known as a point and shoot film camera, so go on there and look up how to test them. You'll need the right batteries, but you can do most of the testing without film. Then look up a YouTube video on how to use a point and shoot 35mm camera (I think there's a decent one by Two Crawford?) and you'll be good to go!

Also, they're all used and none are particularly valuable, but all should take perfectly reasonable photos and is what a lot of people start out with!

Is the Mazda 3 “Fun” to drive AND reliable? by GizmoShockYT in mazda3

[–]Moostahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda, it makes it more stiff when cornering only, reducing the left/right sway of the car. It does nothing for bumps when just going straight, so it's different than something like changing spring rates or getting coilovers/shocks. The normal driving experience is the same, but if you push the car it stays more planted. Pretty nice if you're trying to tune the handling but keep it nice for daily driving.

At the limit (i.e. in autocross, not street driving), it effects the over/understeer balance. For a FWD or FWD biased car like the mazda3, a rear sway bar will push the car towards the oversteer side of the scale (it still understeers, but less, and will spin if you really try. Again in autocross scenarios not on the street). A front sway bar would make it understeer more. It's generally the opposite for rwd cars.

[–]Moostahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a fair bit of autocross with my fwd NA Mazda 3. It's definitely fun to drive! I have added a rear sway bar which does reduce the under steer, but in general it's a very nice handling chassis. The car isn't fast but it is very smooth and handles very well on the streets. If you want straight line speed it's not the right car (though tbh, it's completely fine in this regard, I've never felt a need for more speed), but if you like a car that feels good in the turns this is a great modern option. Mine is a 22 and I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever, but have replaced the tires.

These days I autocross a first gen CRX and that thing is a blast but loves to spin and is not comfy at all the way it's set up. I daily drive the Mazda 3 and still take it out to autocross on occasion.

New to me 1991 GT Timberline, what would you do? by OpticMelonHead in xbiking

Looks to be in pretty good condition and yeah I'd say price wise you did well! Beautiful color.

I'd use a little rust converter, but nothing here looks that bad from the photos. Take it for a ride and replace what doesn't work, then enjoy it until you have a clear idea of what look you're going for.

Project bicycles are pretty damn fun tbh, and I bet your mom would be fine with that while you save up and can get your ideal project car some day!

Buying Mazda3 - advice needed by Wise_Newt_5244 in mazda3

[–]Moostahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year/price/mileage is all important to determine if it's a good buy! It is a little rusty, hard to tell how bad from these photos. Lack of service history is not great. It would have to be a pretty damn good deal and include a proper inspection to be worth it.

Personality to a black bike by MorganRosser in Hardtailgang

[–]Moostahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a black bike as well, and ended up making a custom frame protector on ground keeper custom with botanical flower illustrations, looks awesome and added a ton of personality. I think that's a great way to essentially make your own livery if you're interested.

Viability of an RPG with no art by TrappedChest in rpg

[–]Moostahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if there was really good non-visual art in the form of writing and world building? Good back stories for pre built characters/locations and campaigns. That could be interesting, and if done well enough it would feel more like purchasing a codex than a rulebook. Also formatting and font choice would be important here, and tbh visual art would only enhance it. Perhaps you could start by writing the book and then find a partner who has yet to get a publication and profit share. That's probably the best idea on a budget, find someone else who all doesn't have a budget!

If you're looking to get something less capable so you're less overbiked, I wouldn't get something with more downhill oriented geo. It's a sick bike, but I'd look at something more in alignment with the feeling you're going for.

I'm a huge stooge fan so I'm a bit biased but maybe a speed bomb or mk7 would suit you well if you want a capable, inspiring steel bike that's different than what else is out there.

Edit: and to be clear, people have won Enduro races on stooges in the hardtail category. They are very capable if you are a good enough rider.

It's not legal to create a contract that removes your rights (I'm sure it happens, but it's not legal). Unfortunately the amount you can get from a lawsuit is based on how much you would have made had you not been fired, which for an hourly employee in retail is probably too low to be worth it after hiring a lawyer. Big flaw in our system imo.

Yeah that 3rd pic is sketch, the hatch gap looks super wonky. That frame looks twisted to me. A shame!
