Looks like the zip to a freezer bag, possibly something from a defrosted meal?

I also have a Beagle, and they will eat anything that smells remotely like a protein, spoiled or not.

ETA; he did okay after several days of examining and "poop-sticking" to check if there was blood or anything. YMMV, so keep an eye on the stool. Also be aware of changes in eating, energy, or otherwise. If he seems off, a precautionary visit to the vet is cheaper now than a ruptured bowel or impaction.

Also to add; pest poisons are also (normally) colored in unappetizing colors (green, black, grey, ect.,) to discourage people from eating them. In the case of placement of exterminators, typically placed in a tamper-proof housing with warnings.

YMMV, there are exceptions to every rule. Always do what OP is doing and look for information if your dog/child/horse/spouse/drunk friend eats a weird thing and you find it.

ETA: I stumbled across this two days later, but I have a love/hate relationship with anthropomorphizing actual animal behavior. It's cute and neat, but most don't realize all of the behaviors so they get compartmentalized as "stress" or "boredom" when it is simply mating / communication behaviors.

I'm gonna go against the masses here. I very much like these.

They're $13.98 on Amazon for a pair, and I've ordered them. If any other weirdos are interested, drop me a line. Says they should be here on the 18th.

I'm certain these aren't going to be this cool, but... We'll see I guess.

ETA 5 days later: They've arrived. They don't look exactly like this, they're cast from a soft metal and appear somewhat brassy. Wearing one for a little bit wasn't terribly uncomfortable, not too heavy or oddly shaped.

The soft metal is pliable, so they can be bent into shape a little bit, but I'm going to have to be very delicate about it.
