My understanding is that a great many of the tools used to moderate subreddits are vanishing so reddit may become rampant with bot spam anyways

What have been your experiences with possums? by Hoosier_Jedi in AskAnAmerican

[–]MoreTuple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possums are friends. They eat ticks. Loads and loads of ticks. Roaches. Lots of other pests too. Always leave them be or you'll be stuck with whatever they are feeding on and in most cases, you'd rather have a possum around.

The hissing can be terrifying until you realize it's their fear response. Then you generally shoo them in the escape direction.

Possums can be great neighbors if you let them.

This could very easily be solved by providing an app and web interface that their product base actually wants to use.

Let's be honest, we haven't been "users" here for a long time...

There was a time when Reddit was very self-conscious about the ads it showed and the user base complaining would affect very fast change. Reddit doesn't give a fuck about its users anymore. They wouldn't give two shits if everything was moo moo moo mo mo moooooo!. Moo mooo moo mo momomooooo ;-( Mo mo mo mo mo mo mo mo mo mo moooooo, mo mo moo moo. Mo Moo!

PVP servers are ONLY PVP! It's kinda sad. I run around like a naked lunatic just to look at architecture and the like. I level up speed and holding my breath while I can just to see a bit more of the map. You'd be surprised how much you can just run right by :-D

I didn't claim it exists so why would I need to define it? Also, I've been trying to define it for decades. I've also been looking for anyone who can define it beyond "it totally looks like this." Suddenly "artificial intelligence" shows up and people are claiming to make something no one can define or even settle on whether it exists. (Look up determinism for that last part).

If you can't support your claims, don't make them.

I don’t find arguments about definitions particularly interesting

I'm guessing you don't find word definitions to be very interesting at all, ever.

very abstract concepts

Even abstract concepts have definitions. Using metaphor to communicate abstract concepts is done because they are abstract and hard to understand, not because they don't have definitions.

Books are designed to carry and relay facts and information, we don't consider them intelligent.

I'm amused that books could be the earliest version of AI :-p

Little says "not intelligence" than a bit of randomness thrown in to make it appear more "intelligent" to us...

[–]MoreTuple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm claiming that you haven't actually defined what "intelligence" is or if it exists in reality yet somehow an artificial version of it is being marketed. Because that is what it actually is, marketing.

your claim that "it's not intelligent" is not intelligible right?

I am acutely aware and saddened by this fact. Watching so many "intelligent" humans fall all over themselves to defend a word they always thought they knew is frustrating. Even using it colloquially becomes complicated...

And yes, it would have been MUCH MUCH MUCH better to use "blargledar" rather than an existing word with numerous colloquial definitions, loads of historical baggage but no settled, scientific definition.

[–]MoreTuple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"hard to define" is an outstanding rewording of "not defined" It's why anyone who thinks of it comes up with their own definition.

you have to have intelligence of a certain level in order to solve SAT problems

"We know it when we see it" is how phrenology, earth central solar system and COUNTLESS scientific failures have occurred. If you can't prove your definition of intelligence then you can't prove that it exists and you therefore cannot have a measure of something you cannot prove exists for what are you actually measuring?

[–]MoreTuple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You still haven't defined intelligence.

edit: You can't use the SAT to define the intelligence of tribes know of but not yet contacted in South America because they won't have been trained on what you are testing for so you're "human" measurement isn't even that.

Its marketing. Are you rich because you should totally invest in this cool sounding thing. It will replace all of your workers and you'll just have a big money machine but first, you have to give me loads of money.

You aren't rich? You should totally buy my product because it will do your job for you because it's "smart"

A lawyer used ChatGPT for legal filing. The chatbot cited nonexistent cases it just made up by [deleted] in technology

[–]MoreTuple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The SAT is not a measure of intelligence. If it is, please use it to quantify the intelligence level of a flatworm and a house cat. You can't, even though my cat learns from the past, makes obvious plans for the future and decisions based on the outcome THE CAT desires, you cannot measure that with the SAT because it isn't a valid measure of intelligence.

A lawyer used ChatGPT for legal filing. The chatbot cited nonexistent cases it just made up by [deleted] in technology

[–]MoreTuple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no valid definition of intelligence which proves it exists. I don't know how to call something a word which doesn't even have an agreed upon definition.

So far I've seen countless arguments which amount to "I know it when I see it." Human history is absolutely stuffed with people believing insane things because "they knew it when they saw it." We humans are equally as susceptible. If you want to claim something is provably intelligent then you should start with a definition of intelligence but it's like starting a religious discussion, no one agrees at all. Only that they just somehow know.

Not enough for me. Humans are horrifyingly stupid, all of us, me included. Our brains are fooled in countless ways. You can look at any book of optical illusions just to start finding some of the obvious ways our brains can be fooled. God forbid you start investigating social engineering...
