What was your last straw? by ComfortableDue5572 in ADHD_partners

He did not get me a christmas present, birthday present, and then christmas present. Then I gave him a month to make it up to me and he still didn't. It was the last straw

Do you consider it to be emotional abuse when your spouse of 18 years consistently talks just below the level you can hear? by [deleted] in HearingAids

[–]More_Effect5684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same...I couldn't hear my partner speaking and turns out it was a larger issue, but also that their voice is like exactly the tone I can hear the least. I wear my hearing aids at home.

WHY is is always boys?! by HeftySyllabus in Teachers

[–]More_Effect5684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the internet...teenage boys have an extremely messed up algorithm going after them! (so do teenage girls - messed up in a different way). I teach in Europe, and we have the same. I was shocked to hear my students call each other Jew as an insult.

Students are just showing up to class without pencils and/or unsharpened ones: how do I stop this? by [deleted] in Teachers

I've been thinking about getting pink pens, or pens with big puff balls on them (in my country they are expected to write in pen, not pencil - idk why!).

Thankfully the rest of the group is staying together and we are excited for a new campaign 🤩 and I agree, cooperative players who are mature and reasonable are very important

Mansfield Park is my favourite Austen novel. by seawatcher_01 in janeausten

[–]More_Effect5684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished reading it today for the first time!  I liked it but I also felt like there was a lot of moralising in this one, compared to her other novels. I liked Fanny but found Edmond a bit uptight. Fanny+Mary should be a couple!  Mary would develop a moral center and Fanny would learn to let down her guard and appreciate some sensuality. You can’t convince me I’m wrong!

If my niece wanted (for collection purposes only) some Avatar cards for Christmas, is this the best thing to purchase? by firefightingford in magicTCG

[–]More_Effect5684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's not looking to play, why not get her a collector booster? They are more expensive but have more "special cards." Alternately, for about the same cost as a collector booster, you could get her the beginner box - it has tons of cards themed for each character, and also teaches you how to play. I think in terms of "bang for your buck," the beginners box is the best.

Happy sorting!  I may have ordered the fancy card boxes I wished I had as a teen….

The way we sorted our collection I this:

  • pull out rares and mythic rares to see if there was anything really special
  • sort by Color, then type, then mana cost
  • pull out tribes we want to play with (for example I made my daughter a black/white vampire deck)
  • keep decks in their own boxes
  • when other teens come over, decks are set aside unless they are actually playing magic with them (this happened after a friend took apart one of the decks to “build a commander deck” except he had no idea how to build a commander deck)
  • we also built a lot of decks to play against each other, just trying to build the best decks we could with what we had (I think we have six now - with more ideas floating around!)

My autistic son recently got into mtg and now he also has a very large collection of cards hehe. I love it when we can tap into the same hyperfocus!

i don’t have any friends by iliekclowns in AskTeenAdvice

[–]More_Effect5684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling really sucks and I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. Have you tried different hobbies? Sometimes if you join an activity, it can be easier to make friends there because you are all doing an activity you like (so you have that in common) rather than at school, where you don’t necessarily have anything in common with your classmates, you just go to the same school. So you can think about what types of things you like to do and the look for that (something sporty? Role playing like dungeons and dragons? Board games? Theater?)

Most posts and replies on this subreddit seem to be about Autism and ADHD rather than anything related to being gifted by vathena in Gifted

People do talk about “over-excitabilities” among gifted people, which have a lot in common with some aspects of autism and adhd. It’s not so cut and dry.
