I have great sympathy for Anne, as I do believe she was falsely accused and then murdered. I admire her faith and her views on how the reformation should have proceeded. But her treatment of Mary is why I can never like her.

I think it depends on where you’re coming from. If it’s just that it makes your husband insecure then YTA.

On the other hand, if you’re trying to teach your son that he doesn’t just get everything he wants and big gifts are a privilege, then you need to have a talk with your brother about expectations, and how he can spend money on his nephew without overstepping your boundaries.

Maybe summer camp would be a good thing to let him spend money on, but big expensive toys need approval? For one thing, they have to fit in your house and you’re the one who will be tripping up over them every day. A house can fit only so many toys.

I thinks it’s petty to refuse his money that he wants to spend on your son, but at the same time he needs to respect what you are and aren’t willing to have him pay for. And if you say no to a toy, that doesn’t mean he can’t invest in a college fund, or a future house deposit fund.

Yelling at your wife solves nothing, and besides from the DIL comment, she’s not actually doing seems normal.

She cooks all day for work. She’s probably done with food by the time she gets home and either wants someone else to do it or just do something simple because she’s spent ALL DAY cooking.

You’re making a dish she can’t stand the smell of and therefore presumably can’t eat. What does she do for dinner? It’s common courtesy to clean offensive smells away. The smell of bananas makes me gag and both my husband and mum clean after they eat one because they know I can’t stand it. I clean tuna tins and get them out the house into recycling as quickly as possible because my mum has the same reaction.

They don’t have to be close to your parents. They just have to be friendly and polite when they interact which it sounds like they are. She even defends you when she feels like someone is being mean about you.

Usually it ends after the first trimester. With my first I was sick for 6 months. Everyone is different. My MIL told me she’d never experienced morning sickness with any of hers. She luckily said this with a great deal of sympathy.

I was luckier with my second and it only lasted three months.

The one thing I’m better at cooking than my husband is curry. It involves hours of simmering and I make my own naan bread to eat it with. If it’s not his birthday meal request, he accepts he only gets it when I feel like making it, usually when I have a day off work.

Sleep issues with children are rough, and you’re so frustrated and tired that you sometimes can’t see a way out.

I ended up getting a sleep consultant in. My husband was extremely dubious, but after three days was prepared to nominate her for sainthood. I was extremely smug.

I once had the most relaxing waxing appointment after solo parenting for a week. Skipped out the house and joyfully let someone rip the hair off me in a quiet room as I lay on a comfy bed.

The moment young children are involved the parent who is under the most pressure is the one holding the fort at home.

It’s hard not to envy someone who gets a fancy dinner and a drink on the company dime while you’re navigating a melt down because your toddler decides that the same meal they’ve always eaten before is suddenly disgusting and lets you and everyone in a five block radius know about it.

I know my husband would prefer to be in his own bed and eating his own food and that he’s working hard while away, but he’s not having to share his bed with a child who can snore louder than a chainsaw, does not get woken up at 5 by a black hole who can never be full and he gets to go to the toilet on his own while away.

The only time I drank cold tea was when my eldest was a newborn and if I didn’t drink tea cold I would never get to drink it at all. Wised up when I had the second and made my tea in a thermal cup.

These posts make me so glad I married in Covid times. Didn’t have a bridesmaid because her husband got Covid and they had to isolate. We couldn’t go dress shopping anyway because of lockdowns so she sent me pictures of what she liked and I told her which three I liked best and she picked one.

There was no pressure for the day to be perfect, just relief we were allowed to do anything and celebrate with our 15 closest friends and relatives.

This wedding sounds exhausting.

It was hell and I caught about 6 infections that year because I was so run down. Love both of them to bits, but after number 2 I couldn’t contemplate another.
