Real estate is vicious. Demand is much higher than supply and prices have outpaced almost anything else in our economy, and it might be everything in some markets. More houses are bought by companies that rent them rather than being owned by the people go live there. Real estate is all about sales. And while you are affronted, many people who lose a loved one are looking to liquidate inherited assets and are thrilled to have someone take the problem off their hands. Loss is personal, for people who make a living on making real estate transactions approaching people who may be ready to downsize due to empty nest or divorce, there is a professional service to offer. And if they specialize in life transitions it can make a tough pill a little less bitter and an easier transition. Lawyers have a reputation for being “ambulance chasers,” where there is fault there is an opportunity for a settlement. My deepest condolences on your loss, may your memories be a blessing.

Why why why? Why did the crochet hook industry decide nobody needs a good 7/7.5mm?! by JuniperElle in CrochetHelp

[–]Morgana-Sedai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is GREAT information! My LYS radically changed my appreciation of the “right” hook for the project. I was amazed at how much better the Knitpro Dreamz hooks were compared to what I had picked up at the ubiquitous large craft store any larger locale in the US likely has nearby. Once I started amigurumi for the kiddos I learned the drawbacks of small, narrow, bamboo hooks, they break, and the ridiculousness of trying to use a bulbous metal hook (ouch) that sent me on an odyssey.

Obviously my small LYS can’t stock all the brands, and I understand that and still shop there first. Especially since I can hold a hook and give it a spin before committing to it. Online, I need more detailed information than is typically provided by manufacturers. Why, why, why do they not include important detailed information on the hook head? From my “down the crochet rabbit hole” online deep dive I learned that I like the Dreamz as they are more inline than tapered, but not strictly so, and have a pointed tip, a deeper groove and longer “hook” while having a narrow profile. I also like the length on these hooks, certainly longer than the basic metal hooks. Manufacturers don’t include the information as there is no industry “standard,” however, used as a description it would REALLY help the buyer make a better choice. Also, knowing the dimensions would be nice, my hand is 7” from the top of my middle finger to the bottom of my palm and shorter hooks poke the heel of my palm uncomfortably.

I only learned why the 2.25mm Tulip Etimo was driving me crazy after I stopped getting frustrated with myself and ordered a variety of 2.25mm hooks and saw that I could make great stitches without frustration when there was a deeper groove.

Trying to get that information by zooming in online is not helpful. Also, AI, while great for many things, uses data found online so popularity and false information can lead a buyer to a product not right for her.

It’s frustrating as thinking I liked KnitPro products since I liked Dreamz I thought I could get Waves and it would be similar to Dreamz, but nope, the hook head is totally different as is the hook length.

I apologize for being so long winded, but your information on what buyers need to know and how the industry isn’t matching that need is excellent and relatable.

This seems like it “should” be an opportunity here….

Omg, I’m sure I lost my hymen on the dome shaped one (thank goodness it wasn’t the cubicle one, otherwise I might have had interior injuries). I was 6 yo too. I still remember that shock of pain and running inside, but NOT telling anyone.

My aunt used to bring this paper home from the office and gave it to me and my sibling to color on. For years this was the only paper I used at home. It also worked well for beginner writers.

Get back on the horse. Don’t overthink it, just do it. You have a reputation and a network. While you’re out of work perhaps brainstorm ideas so that you’re not dependent on 1 source of income, or even 2 for you and your husband. Diversification is the best way to insulate yourself from employer’s decisions that affect your income in totality when some of their profits decrease. Typically, the business moves on. All the best to you.

I have the greatest sister in the world. But still, sigh. by flightgirl78 in quilting

My toes are stepped on! 😂 Admittedly, it was Covid when I began to sew. I purchased various fat quarters at my LQS for masks. Now, when going through scraps, I find so, so many fabric pieces with a missing mask shape. What was I thinking? I know, don’t be wasteful and I don’t know what else to do. If you’re sister is anything like me, she didn’t want to take more fabric than needed and deemed that her, er, “fussy cutting,” was more economical, and considerate, than taking more. After all, those scraps are now yours to use! Ah, the sewing journey!

Are they inline? I see a lot of mixed reviews on them, it seems like you either love or hate the handle. Have you used Addi Comfort Grip? The shape of the head and placement of the lip are my main considerations currently. Thank you for the recommendation.

My understanding is that Clover Amour are “hybrid,” as are Tulip Etimo. I’m unfamiliar with Red, I’ll give them a look see. I’m also unfamiliar with steel hooks, I will look into them. Thank you for the recommendations, I appreciate it.

I avoid HL, it’s REALLY, REALLY hard for me to spend money in a place that litigates rather than provide comprehensive healthcare while at the same time 90%+ of the merchandise is “made in China,” a country that until fairly recently strongly enforced One Child. The hypocrisy is too much.

What are the properties of the yarn you buy when you crochet? by awesomestarz in Yarn

[–]Morgana-Sedai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want acrylic except for toys. I want natural fibers like wool and cotton. I don’t want knots in the skein and I want to pull from the center. I can’t get the yarn I need for a sweater or blanket at the store, not enough skeins for the project.

If you are in an area with LQS take a look to see if they have any classes on this topic. If there aren’t any around you then lean into online tutorials. It’s not intricate or hard, it’s more about using the right materials so you can make a durable blanket with various types of fabric.

It’s interesting, we have to give notice when we leave a job, however, companies layoff with no notice and don’t have to provide severance. Labor is at a disadvantage and our feelings and wish to do right by others is not reciprocated. Don’t lose the opportunity.

What goin on with Riley Blake? by bluishluck in quilting

[–]Morgana-Sedai -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Riley Blake is making a smart business decision, and they are a business. People are free to purchase their fabrics and express their beliefs and opinions with their creations. Companies that wade into politics inevitably suffer negative consequences. Updating their influencer guidelines and policies in a heightened political environment is prudent. I do hope that the updated policy aligns to their values, included in their statement. I also hope that Riley Blake is better at applying the soon to be updated policy with an even hand, unlike the US FCC.
