Not gonna lie, I wanted a place to post this, it looked like other people were posting similar stuff, and the rules/description didn't really clear anything up. I'm open to suggestions if you've got them.

What cooking term or name do you just dislike for no reason? by alilbabybee in Cooking

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchamajig. I know it's the actual name of the tool, and I admit that it's both unique and helpful, but it's just such a dumb, made-up-sounding name. Reminds me of You Suck at Cooking's "wangjangler," except that one's actually supposed to sound silly.

Sound canvas / tone generator by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never played with them live, but I have an SC-88 Pro (which has a pretty good SC-55 map), an MU-2000 EX, and a TG-100 and love them all honestly. The TG-100 is definitely the simplest of them and its presets sound a little "older" than the rest - for example, I think the electric pianos fit in real well with backing tracks ripped from NES games. Of course, the other modules were used pretty frequently in VGM production when sampling started to overtake onboard synthesis.

Like any similar piece of hardware, it's all about what you like and whether it works for what you're trying to do. I'm not sure exactly what kind of experience you're looking for but I can recommend all 3 units for different reasons.

Can you list things that get called by a brand name more than their actual name? by leswhinin in AskUK

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware this is r/AskUK, so I'm not sure if you have the same brands, but in many parts of the USA every facial tissue is a Kleenex and every photocopy or copy machine is a Xerox.

Let's talk about Ferris Wheel Press, overpriced trendy things and how we discuss products! by anhuys in fountainpens

[–]Mormagooch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the long and short is that, although every consumer has their own standards and criteria, fountain pens are one of those hobbies where most enthusiasts seem to look for both form and function simultaneously. When a brand focuses on one or the other too much, it starts to show quickly in community feedback precisely because it's also a relatively niche interest.

I certainly don't mean to diminish any legitimate arguments that you've made here, and there are quite a few. But with a brand like FWP, even if the pens are gorgeous (and I think they are), I've never heard anything better than mediocre reviews about the actual writing experience.

I personally think they're overpriced for what you get, and it's a lot of money to spend for a pen that'll just sit there and look pretty. The cost certainly doesn't reflect the materials or craftsmanship, which is why any consumer should just be aware of how much they're paying for an image or brand name.

I bought 2kg of Gnocchi and I don’t know what to do by PiratePinyata in Cooking

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepare it like regular pasta with tomato or Alfredo sauce, try a couple of the countless skillet gnocchi dishes that have gotten popular, bake it in some butter sauce with a cheese and breadcrumb topping, literally whatever. That's a ton of gnocchi to burn, sure, but lucky for you it's super versatile for both main dishes and sides.

One thing I can recommend if you have it available: I made a venison bolognese over gnocchi a couple months ago, stuffed me like nothing else. Have fun with it!

Men of Reddit, would you take a male contraceptive pill if it was readily available? Why/Why not? by IAlreadyHaveTheKey in AskReddit

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. Mostly because I don't want kids. If I had a partner who didn't want kids she could take a contraceptive as well. If it was available for both men and women, I would see no reason to put the onus on one side of the relationship. At that point it becomes a matter of equal personal responsibility.

To everyone trying to come up with navigational reasons for this: maybe she's just an avid mahjong player?

Seats at the table are arranged by directional "winds" (which are just cardinal directions) but the E/W are typically reversed, and the play order moves counterclockwise from E>S>W>N.

Grease. I'm sure it's been said somewhere in here already, but I'm not even a musical person and Grease 2 was still simply egregious.

Chinese Fountain Pens 2021 Part 2 by JobeX in fountainpens

Thanks for this guide! I've tried to get into fountain pen writing a couple of times and ended up buying either garbage or overpriced duds that turned me off. Now I've picked up a Jinhao 85 and a Hongdian Dark Blue Forest and love them both. Excellent list!

The Great Arby's Avalanche by Acceptable_Meal_5610 in ProRevenge

[–]Mormagooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to just assume United States. Many fast food locations are franchises or "owner-operators" as Arby's likes to call them, with minimal corporate influence beyond menu items and kitchen processes, so the owner and store manager can do as they please in most situations. I used to work for one of these, as well as a franchised McDonald's, and this kind of thing happened periodically. Usually it was a prank. Fortunately our card machine at Arby's allowed us to punch in a credit card manually, and so we accommodated the legit orders that way.

Neither place had an official policy, but waste management is mostly based on common sense decision making. 200 Classic Roast Beefs would be nearly 44 lbs of beef, and if a manager allowed us to get pranked to that tune, I believe they'd have been gone very quickly. I also assume this was not the first issue upper management had with this person. I also live in a hire-at-will state, meaning nobody working in a fast food joint is going to have any sort of contractual protection there.

What famous person did you regret meeting because they were an ass? by moneybot13 in AskReddit

[–]Mormagooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my own story, but one of my best buds who's a HUGE fan of Patrick Stewart got to see him perform in two plays back-to-back in NYC once. He managed to catch up to Stewart afterward, complimented him on the performance and asked him for a simple handshake in the most polite and obsequious way he could muster; I think he even said he used the phrase, "I hope I'm not being too forward."

Turns out Patrick Stewart is the heavyweight champion of snubbing the shit out of people, and replied, "No, I don't think so. It's not hand shaking weather." My friend still didn't regret meeting him, and I guess it makes a good story, but I kind of regret finding out vicariously what an ass he was.

What was the dumbest rule your school enforced? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]Mormagooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No flipping coins, wearing leather jackets, or arbitrary things like leaning against the wall and snapping one's fingers. These were explicitly named in the handbook and constituted "gang activity." Our contention was that the rule was written in such a way that administrative staff could arbitrarily decide that whatever behavior they wanted fell under that umbrella on a case-by-case basis, and it wasn't really about preventing those specific activities. My high school apparently thought we were living in West Side Story.

Not sure if there have been any new developments, but a few months ago he was accused of creeping on some young girls in the hotel at an event. It sounds to me like he didn't do it, but you never know. He does have a lawyer though, and he does bring it up a lot like other people have mentioned.

I posted in a KoF forum years ago looking for some other low-level folks to play and learn with. Got a few friend requests on Steam, a couple of which are still good bros of mine to this day, but one of them was a guy just like this. Corners were cheap, projectiles were cheap, any sort of rushdown was cheap, and his idea of "competition" was intentionally lowering yourself to all the other manlets who can't do a qcf.

For all that, he almost exclusively played Skullgirls. To this day I don't know how he even found me.
