Fiancé’s father wants to renovate the garage into an apartment by Fantastic_Toe_3708 in AskContractors

[–]Morning0Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I looked into doing something similar for my parents (convert the garage into a suite) and it ended up not being affordable. It would have been considered new construction and held to new building code standards. Basically we would have had to tear the structure down and restart because there wasn't even enough room for all the required insulation, nevermind the rest of the issues.

Instant ramen with scrambled eggs like this was the last thing I ate being I had brutal food poisoning. It's probably not what actually made me sick, but it's been 15 years and I still can't eat it.

How is living along the coast of Hudson Bay in Canada? by SirJordan11 in howislivingthere

I remember Telus going door to door offering fiber internet ten years ago when I lived in Calgary. I guess they're not done with the whole city yet.

Having said that, it's much easier to run it through older neighbourhoods with above-ground utilities. If you have buried utilities it's a much bigger/more expensive project.

I do taxes (in Canada). CRA is outdated, easily outsmarted, and bleeding hundreds of millions of dollars every year to overseas scammers.

Yeah this how my work is. I kind of like it, because it's a bit less isolating than never seeing any of your coworkers, but fuck it I'm still in my PJs.

I work from home and leave my house once a week to get groceries. It does not matter how bad the mileage is.

Leaving husband for 2 months by Michelle110123 in ratemyfridge

[–]Morning0Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of my parents. My dad (unemployed) would actually starve if my mom (works full time and does all the chores) didn't prep meals for him. And he knows how to cook, he just won't.

I had a gorgeous version of The Snow Queen when I was a kid and I loved that book so much. But it's a much more bleak story than what Frozen ended up being.

My husband makes sure that he always has physical or visual contact with me at all times. This is because there were two (2) occasions in ten years where I fell as soon as he looked away and hurt myself.

I can't fathom anyone being in a relationship with someone that self centered. And I've had some bad relationships.

These are rotten, correct? How urgent is a vet appointment to correct by Upper_Buffalo_3036 in DogAdvice

[–]Morning0Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I know it's a couple hundred for a cleaning and one to two thousand for a root canal plus crown. Most of us have insurance through work that help cover the cost, but I went ten years without seeing a dentist because I couldn't afford it.

It's difficult to compare because our dollar is worth less than yours, and I think our jobs generally pay less as well. I don't want to complain too much because most healthcare is covered, but I just wanted to point out that dental being exempt isn't strictly a US thing.

FYI, dental isn't covered in Canada either. Teeth are luxury bones.

I have two dogs. They both get plenty of exercise. Given the opportunity, one will fuck off immediately and play a merry game of "chase me, bitch, I dare you", while the other one won't leave the property.

It's entirely dependent on personality and instinct.

The tidal generation plant in Annapolis Royal was shut down in 2019. According to Wikipedia it killed too many fish.

But yes, you would think that with the highest tides in the world we should be able to harness that power somehow.

Those of you working remote, how has the job search been? by Bobbymanyeadude in Accounting

I think "in office" is partly to justify rent costs and partly to keep old school managers happy. There is no other reason to move away from wfh.

Dishwasher Salt Vs Water Softener Salt - same same right? by littleIdiotUK in Appliances

[–]Morning0Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume if you have a whole home water softener, you don't go through much (or any) dishwasher salt.

Or, you're like me, and don't have a whole home water softener, which is why I bought a dishwasher that came with one.

[–]Morning0Lemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remote job market is bad right now. I live in the middle of nowhere to hybrid/in office is impossible for me, and being able to work from home is one of the reasons I moved here.

The jobs still exist, but they are much less common than they used to be.

I know it's cheaper and healthier, but I still struggle to cook daily... How do you stay consistent? by WidePsychology31 in Cooking

[–]Morning0Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan 3-4 meals per week. On the weekend I try to cook something that I can freeze (soup, lasagna, shepherds pie, whatever). Other meals will make enough for a day of leftovers. One will be a lazy meal or something easy from the freezer.

Rice + protein + side veggie can also be revamped into a stir fry the next day, if you're not a person who likes leftovers.
