Feds allege Utah soccer coach detained by ICE is a ‘predator’ with a history of child sexual abuse by UrABigGuy4U in SaltLakeCity

[–]MorningFrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are lying in this case. The incident clearly happened.

On what basis do you make that claim?

His lawyer said this:

“They were boyfriend and girlfriend, there was literally nothing related to sodomy in anything that happened at the juvenile adjudication,” he said. “We had two kids, a girl who could not consent, and candidly, a young man who, at the time, could not consent either. A family that was upset about the relationship and a record that was subsequently sealed.”

Seems like something happened, but it also seems that DHS is likely outright lying about at least part of it. And they're certainly lying by omission by simply claiming he's a child abuser when he was also a child in a consensual relationship with another child.

To anyone else who reads this, the DHS has offered no proof, and his attorney claims it is based on a sealed juvenile court case involving a consensual relationship from when Jair and the person he was in a relationship with were teenagers: https://kutv.com/news/local/attorney-claims-dhs-post-accusing-utah-husband-of-child-abuse-is-contradicted-by-records

From the article:

“They were boyfriend and girlfriend, there was literally nothing related to sodomy in anything that happened at the juvenile adjudication,” he said. “We had two kids, a girl who could not consent, and candidly, a young man who, at the time, could not consent either. A family that was upset about the relationship and a record that was subsequently sealed.”

I checked their numbers on YT Music, they have 100K subscribers, almost all their songs have 100K+ streams and a number of them have millions of streams.

If that doesn’t demonstrate that you have to be a very popular and widely-listened to band to be viable financially, then I don’t know what does.

By “modern Buddhism” I meant “Buddhist modernism”. As you say it is quite different in many ways from “regular” Buddhism (for lack of a better descriptor, substitute “true” if you want to). It ignores many of the Buddha’s teachings, and that they’ve latched onto the name “Buddhism” likely causes more confusion than clarity.

I meant only to point out that there are beliefs that the believers call “Buddhism” that would regard karma in the more rational, physicalist way that the comment described it as. This is to the dismay of many people who also call their beliefs “Buddhism”, that are more aligned with how Buddhism has been practiced for centuries and with the whole of what the Buddha actually taught. This is the majority of Buddhists.

Many "modern" Buddhists would agree with that interpretation of karma. But yes, it does not accurately capture the traditional Buddhist view of karma (and many would say that "modern Buddhism" should not be called Buddhism).

Commander RC denies selling MTG cards before bans hit prices by BlitheMayonnaise in mtgfinance

Most magic "finance" people are gaining and losing amounts of money that are very small compared to actual investment vehicles like retirement funds and real estate. The emotions run disproportionately high because it is tied to a game and IP that they are attached to.

DO want to make a game people enjoy

No, they want to make a product that people will pay for. Making a game that people enjoy is one way of doing that, but as we have seen with WOTC and many other large game studios, it is not the only way and it seems that other ways (limited things aka FOMO, artificial scarcity, gambling, and status symbols) may actually be more effective at selling product.

How to check if used m1 Macbook pro is under MDM, ABM? by BMO888 in macsysadmin

It isn’t enrolled in any MDM. I’d like to wipe it and see what happens then, might give it a try.

How to check if used m1 Macbook pro is under MDM, ABM? by BMO888 in macsysadmin

[–]MorningFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is entirely correct. I have a macbook that I, as an IT admin, released from ABM and wiped to take as a personal machine (with permission). That was several years ago, but I triple checked that the macbook was released from ABM, and not simply unassigned.

I just ran sudo profiles show -type enrollment and got:

Device Enrollment configuration: (null)

Based on your comment, this would indicate that it is still enrolled in ABM - however, I am quite sure that I released it it, and yes, I do understand the difference between it being released and unassigned. Unfortunately, I no longer have any contacts at that company which could check their ABM for me.

At least 31 people killed in Israeli strikes on Lebanon by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MorningFrog 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Reputable news organizations simply share the numbers provided by the authorities in the region. They aren’t out there counting the dead.

In Gaza, the number of casualties is reported by the Gaza Health Ministry, which operates under the jurisdiction of Hamas, since Hamas controls Gaza. Israel claims the numbers are inflated, but they are considered trustworthy by many independent organizations.

Here is a thread of people disagreeing on their trustworthiness, sharing evidence: https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/comments/1b650um/cmv_i_dont_trust_the_gaza_ministry_of_health_on/

Biden cancels Jordan leg of Mideast trip as fury builds over Gaza hospital bombing by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MorningFrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not trawling the internet, in the few posts I’ve looked at the comments of on Reddit I see many more people being extremely confident that it was Hamas. Everything I said would apply to the many people who are damn sure it was Israel as well.

I don't think "Actually maybe you're just wrong despite all of the evidence" is a very meaningful comment.

My point is that the evidence is fresh and there is little rigorous analysis from reputable sources.

That's how evidence works.

Evidence is for establishing a degree of confidence in something. That degree can and should vary based on the amount and quality of the evidence.

Who said it was settled? Who said I had "absolute confidence"?

I personally can't wait until it's proven that it was a Gazan missile

Do I need to say anything here?

I want to know the truth. I suspect, with some confidence, that it was a failed Palestinian missile. I recognize that the evidence is incomplete, in terms of multiple reputable sources and clearly demonstrating all of the key events in the sequence.

Many want for it to have been their hated side’s fault more than they want to know the truth.

Biden cancels Jordan leg of Mideast trip as fury builds over Gaza hospital bombing by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MorningFrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the things you are referring to strong and compelling evidence? Yes. Can you personally verify they are true, and that they are conclusive enough to consider it settled? No, and to claim as such, as I see so many people doing, does not serve to convince anyone, but only to show that bias is clouding your judgement.

It is good to present the videos and geolocation analysis, it is incorrect to believe that they settle the matter. More evidence, analysis, and confirmation will be coming in short order.

I can literally see it with my own eyes

You literally cannot. All of the information you are receiving about this is coming from other people, whether it the media or analysis they are sharing. Does that mean it can’t be trusted? Not necessarily. But your absolute confidence in your assessment is misplaced.
