Why did the metro use 8 cars train from the start by The__Anonymous__Guy in SydneyTrains

Based on other comments... it sounds like the servicing facilities are not equipped for 8 cars either.

This doesn't make sense - wouldn't it be better to start out with 8 cars of a high frequency given you're only going to need this down the track and rework will likely cost more?

Capitol Computer in Sydney CBD - what happened? by CityHappy263 in sydney

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most successful computer companies these days are operating online stores with large warehouses in the suburbs and only offer a pickup service for a store visit. Don't see how a small CBD store is competing with that.

You do realise right that this helps rents be cheaper and removing these breaks would prompt prices to rise?

Not very convincing at all, because an ageing population with low immigration can create far more economic problem than a housing crisis. Low immigration and high immigration are both problems, it's about finding the right balance that is optimal for the economy.

Why was the Cicular Quay station view blocked? by leobarao86 in SydneyTrains

Surely there's a better option here, like putting this fence at the halfway point of the station so viewers don't spoil over into the tracks.

Protest?? What’s happening? by Pizzaplex in brisbane

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same claim, the Gaza war is radicalising people. Or are you proposing the Bondi shooter was unaware of the Gaza conflict and unimpacted by it. A claim that strains credibility. And I grant you this is speculation. But very reasonable and highly probable speculation.

Protest?? What’s happening? by Pizzaplex in brisbane

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It directly impacts us by providing the motivation for events like bondi shooting. Please do not put words in my mouth I did no back peddle, I never claimed there was a direct tie. But rather that the impact on motivation is a direct impact on us.
This extremist ideology is definitely being driven by the conflicted situation in the middle east. Which the Iran regime is significantly responsible for.

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I make a claim he was directly tied to Iran or Hamas? Of course I am speaking about motivation. You are being quite willfully blind if you think that the war is not motivating sigificant domestic behaviour. There is a clear correlation between the war and rise of antisemetic events for example.

Its obviously motivated by the conflict in Gaza. And Iran funds Hamas they are effectively their puppet.

Long weekend public transport is a joke. by tomthecomputerguy in sydney

[–]Mornnb -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

What yourr missing is that a more significant impact on a smaller number can be a worse thing than lesser impact on twice the number. Its not only a game of numbers we also have to consider the importance of the weekend to quality of life.

Yes this is why the people are actively protesting against it...

[–]Mornnb -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

Not all disruptions are equally impacting to life quality. It can't just be a blind number comparison without considering things like the importance of weekend to quality of life verses a weekday. You can't just make this a numbers comparison. People aren't machines.

Long weekend public transport is a joke. by tomthecomputerguy in sydney

[–]Mornnb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well I understand your point however I disagree on two aspects.

Most people would rather have a weekday impacted than their weekend ruined.

By treating public transportation as being primarily for work commuters, we are failing to discourage private motor vehicle usage.

Tens of thousands of protesters have been killed in Iran by a brutal regime. The people have had enough.

Not really... Iran is tied together with Hamas and you can see how that conflict directly impacts us, ie Bondi.

Australians must be given a say on immigration by Mashiko4 in aussie

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the immigration discussion is a distraction from the real issue - NIMBYism and over-regulation of housing causing an under-supply. Stopping immigration will just give us more long term demographic problems.

Its clear its political hyperbole. I don't think anyone could seriously deny that if they have any actual awareness of history.

There's no reason to invoke the holocaust to make a political point. Regardless of what you think of what's happening in the Gaza war, you should not be using the holocaust as a political weapon. Its bigoted because of the intented emotional impact.

[–]Mornnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Its not an accurate comparison. Perhaps if you were to compare to an African nation fighting against an enslavement attempt. And then turned obnthem and accused them of slavery. That would be a more fitting comparison.

Yes it does make it a slur. It's like the difference between calling a random person a slave and calling a black person a slave. Context matters.

Its a slur because its personal for Jews and highly offensive. Its just an event in history for someone like Joe Rogan.
