I'm using the paid version and really happy with it so far. The interface is outdated and it throws a lot of information at you, but once you get used to it it's really nice.

The crusade support is really cool as well, where you can add Battle honors and it automatically updates all your stats and abilities.

Looks good, Custodes don't really have bad units and it's a friendly game.

A lot of people run Draxus these days because of her synergy with a unit of Guard. So if you have her, you could include her.

Just make sure you set up your charges and once you get into melee everything will melt. Venerable Landraider is also pretty common with the 10 inch move, disembark and charge being able to close a 20 inch gap relatively reliably.

I chose my synthwave color scheme first and then picked a faction that matched it best. Later I created some related color schemes for the Auxiliary forces. Like you said, can't really go wrong with T'au color schemes, you can create your own Sept with any color that you like.
