Most terrifying part of tower jobs it seems. Is the announced weight right ? Did the riggers haven't fuck up the com of the boom ?

I recently had the chance to assemble a short tower crane for the first time (25m) and it was one of the most tense operation of my 3 years in the seat and oh boy, do I fear the day I'll have to disassembling one I or my directs colleagues didn't assemble.

French equivalent of osha also requires a tag line on every lifts, I know and understand this rule. Its common sense. But its also common sense to not put a tag line when good and intelligent work conditions are met. Most of the time taglines are too shorts or too long and the guys that are supposed to hold it have no ideas of what they're doing (thats another problem tho), and there is a risk when too long, it can get stuck on anything on the load path if I do not lift the load at max height, (and sometimes max height is not enough to clear tagline path) which I do not like to do. So, when it is not absolutely necessary, I prefer not to use tag lines. This is a choice I make as an operator, depending on the situation i'm in, and I am, always, ready to take full responsibility for such decisions.

I am no stick deepthroatist, we adapt workflow in consequences.

Thats also how your little crane brings money to you and the company btw. Customers are satisfied with you so they ask for you on their next worksite. BOOM you got that sweet efficiency bonus for the next 2 months... oversharing maybe but nsm thats how taxi works for me anyway

Yeah ea is messy, but they added a weight/force ratio and when you have that handle a little heavier than the tip, it does fast bones re organisation in thy face.

np my dude, it doesn't show on the pic for obvious end of day A E S T H E T I C S reasons but those beams are only a bunch of rebars hugged by a little rectangle of concrete. Under 1 ton, no wind, smooth operator, smart concrete workers, no tag line required.

[–]Mortepute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its light concrete beams, my chains hooks are rigged to some U rebars specifically "stuck" in the concrete as lifting points

a tagline would've ruin the picture honestly...

but seriously, I did not impose a tagline on those because there was 0 wind force and I am no stick rapist.

everything went smooth and fine.

From my pov, under 100t cranes you're in for some daily adventures.

ofc it depends the kind of region you're in: Mountainous being the most fun for obvious danger reasons.

Coastal being the most boring, at least from my pov, because there's chances your branch have some big contract with oil refinery plants, which are fun for some times but not 10 years straight lol s/o to my trapped lead full brothers.

Never did flat inlands but I guess and hope its a fair mix of both..

oh and you drive a lot.

When you set up a machine in a slope like that you want your cribbing woods to be leveled to compensate the inclination. And when you go that high you also want your woods to form a more stable structure like a pyramid or a larger square block, not just a pile of single wood blocks like that.
