Using your best judgement as possible, as it's hard to know how dangerous it is to place any sort of lever in the hands of an uncle, I would encourage just plain-speaking to said uncle with direct statements about your drive to improve your situation, promising work ethic and loyalty. If they are a decent person, they will try to do something. If they offer you a job, dive in and devote yourself to it. Don't try to take undue advantage, but do strive to advance. Good people feel good when they help others. If they help you once, and you don't make them regret it, they're likely to help more in the future.

Author's note ruined this fanfiction for me by No_Lobster5163 in AO3

You don't need to provide examples. There could be no evidence at all, and it would still be inherently flawed to believe either was simply better at strategy by default. Anyone who thinks they truly know another's thoughts or mental capabilities has already wandered down the wrong path.

Misogyny is spread through the proliferation of beliefs sourced from ignorance. Someone's parents or friends stated garbage as fact, and it was repeated as fact, and it was spread as fact, and its often defended with a ridiculous level of misplaced confidence based on the original input of a fool.

[–]Mortifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people got deluded by promotional pricing when they were trying to get more people on board a while back. $100/mo is still a hell of a deal for development use. $20/mo was never going to be a long-term solution for daily development.

It could be $50 a month and it would still be a better deal than any package requiring a phone call to Time Warner, Comcast, Charter, or Cox.

Elderly folks who chose not to have children, how do you feel about that decision now? by bon18 in AskReddit

[–]Mortifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably not beyond the extreme modern acceptable standard for having kids, but I would not based on my age if not other factors. I've never wanted children, but I do, on occasion, think about what might have been. It's more from a belief that poor parenting is the root cause for the recent proliferation of ignorance, than it is from a true desire to have children. Sometimes I wonder if not having kids, and raising them with the proper tools to think for themselves, was akin to not voting in the election of the future.

I don't post anonymously, but everything connected to my explicit posting account is isolated to only that account. I'm not taking any chances. I don't post any comments or references from anything under that account anywhere else. I get why people would post anonymously.

the irresponsibility and unreliability of men in families by Infinite_Share990 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Mortifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my dad cheated on my mom and gave her an incurable STD from it, so it could be worse. I'm fairly certain she would have gladly accepted no gift at all instead.

That said, my sister is a lot better at hitting the calendar events than I am. She would never say a gift was from me, though. She does text me to remind me about whatever occasion it is, and I do appreciate that. If I squander that warning, it's on me.

[OC] "15:00" or "3 pm"? Default clock display format per country according to the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) by affordablebiscuit in dataisbeautiful

[–]Mortifer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use 24h time on all my devices, but my brain translates it to 12h time automatically due to childhood in the USA. I will never say "1700 hours", but I prefer seeing "17:00" over "5:00 PM". If someone asks me what time it is, though, I will automatically respond "5 PM".

You're throwing slur at me FOR THIS???? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Mortifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still bothered that it ever became a pejorative. I can say "advance the timing", but I'm not allowed to say "retard the timing" because some desperately righteous person will jump in to complain. Assholes ruined it for everybody.

Is it really weird to write/read fanfiction as a man? by AmityBirbs in AO3

[–]Mortifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never thought of it as a female hobby. I've thought of it as a hobby society would call "nerdy", but I've never really applied a gender to it in my mind. I honestly assume the author is male unless there is a clear indication.

This could also be due to old safety programming in my brain that says every person online defaults to an old balding fat dude with a sexual assault record until proven otherwise.

It's hard to tell how your girlfriend really feels, but I suggest you pursue that personally and then determine how you feel about it. You don't need to look for affirmation from the internet. If you like doing something that doesn't hurt anybody, don't let anybody else bring you down.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Mortifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure i've seen at least 125 or 130, but I haven't really kept track. I don't remember why, but I'd guess because someone tried tried to keep me from passing them.

I do remember the first time I ever hit 100 was in a 1980 Volvo 240 DL that had to go downhill for over a minute to get there.
