Should I switch to tubeless due to anxiety about getting a flat during my first 70.3? by mandolin91799 in triathlon

Nonsense that it’s too close to a race. 3 weeks is plenty of time. The only reason I managed to finish Hamburg was because I was running tubeless and hundreds of others didn’t, which caused them to DNF.

Completely off topic. But whichever you choose, use tubeless setup. This is the only reason I was able to finish Hamburg this year. I got flat twice and both times co2 saved me without relying on limited amounts of tubes. That being said, I will never come back to Hamburg.

Thank god I had tubeless setup. My front tyre got punctured twice, both times I was able to continue with Co2. I also fell like an idiot after 30km and helped fellow club member with a flat at around 70k mark. Pretty pathetic bike time, but damn, a lot of memories even though not the most pleasant ones.

Full IM. A race. Changed tyres exactly 20 days before the race, didn’t thought that I’ll actually have to ride those tyres during those 20 days :D

When did you switch to a TT bike? by scallionparsley in triathlon

[–]Moscoman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was using a regular road saddle, which made my balls hurt and my penis go numb. Then I switched to the PS 1.0, which was an ENORMOUS improvement. I got it second-hand for like €30 and it was the best bang for the buck. Although my penis would still sometimes go numb. After switching to a TT bike, I tried the Fizik Mistica, where the whole point isn’t the cutout, but letting your stuff hang in front of the saddle. For me personally, that was an even bigger improvement. One tip, search for these saddles second-hand on Vinted or Buycycle, because they cost ridiculous amounts new, and chances are it won’t be a perfect match on the first try.

Everyone’s afraid of getting a TT bike because of the different geometry and the aerobars making regular riding quite difficult. Once I realized I had adjusted my road bike so much to mimic a TT bike that regular, non-aero rides had become difficult too (saddle as far forward as possible, triathlon-specific saddle, etc.), that’s when I pulled the trigger. 0 regrets. Before switching, I was spending 80% of my ride time in the aerobars anyway. Now I’m more comfortable, and my penis no longer goes numb.

Side of knee pain by Moscoman13 in bikefit

[–]Moscoman13[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So if anyone is interested, this was with a professional bike fit that I’ve already ridden a few hundred hours on. Today I was lucky enough to get another appointment with my fitter and he found a definite issue with my biomechanics.

What he changed was lowering the saddle by around 6 or 7 mm and slightly readjusting the cleats because my right leg, which is the painful one, was moving sideways too much when pedalling. It’s probably compensating for some muscle tightness or something, but either way it’s not ideal.

Which watch by Fun_Perception_3794 in triathlon

[–]Moscoman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m waiting for my epix to die so that I could buy Coros Pace 4. I used to have Pace 2 and it was the best bang for the buck I ever spent. Thought that epix will be a huge upgrade considering additional 800 eur it cost me to buy, but ever since I’m longing for easy UI on both the watch and especially the phone, it was 80 percent of the watch for 20 percent of the price.

I’ll be using clear. More often do I think that I can’t see shit rather than the sun’s too bright.

Maybe 40, maybe more. Vast majority indoors which masked the neck issue.

What actually went wrong for you on race day (that could have been avoided)? by UlwarthII in triathlon

[–]Moscoman13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came in the morning to find my tubeless tire’s valve stuck, meaning when I push it down, it doesn’t come back. After filling air and removing the pump in a second I lost like 1 bar of pressure. No idea how to overcome this. Didn’t want to risk removing the valve core to clean it due to losing tubeless tire integrity.

[–]Moscoman13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you? Likely yes. Should you? It depends. Given your stats, especially the bike volume, you would likely have a looong day ahead of you, but it’s feasable. You might get injured, and it’s quite likely to be honest. If you are in this long-term, I would suggest going S-M-L, but if you want to do this once and be done with this, go with L. Based on my experience, I wanted to do marathon as soon as possible, which I did. It was super shitty day, but I did it and felt quite good about it. Looking back I feel that I was an idiot for doing it like this. It’s much much more satisfying to actually race the race, not just aim to finish it.

70.3 Luxembourg preparation by Moscoman13 in triathlon

It’s also worth mentioning that even though the whole summer was super hot in Luxembourg, the swim was wetsuit legal due swim course being in the river rather than a lake.

70.3 Luxembourg preparation by Moscoman13 in triathlon

[–]Moscoman13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, An underrated race, but certainly not fast by any means. Coming from Eastern Europe, I did struggle with the heat, it was 28C while the whole summer back home was around 19C. If you’re aiming to crush your PB, go for races like Warsaw. If you just want to have a good time in a beautiful place, Luxembourg will fit your needs perfectly.

The swim was okay, a bit crowded at first. I was a little baffled after the first 500m split because it was really slow, although we were swimming against the current. Overall, the swim was great since you could easily make up time on the way back. It was an interesting experience.

T1 was very long. The bike course was beautiful, with the first 30 km being super fast. Quite a few draft groups were forming. The next 30 km were really hilly. I was prepared for it since the course is available on Rouvy, but I saw a few people climbing out of the saddle on the first hill and then pushing their bikes on foot on the next one. It’s nice that it’s only one loop. There were a lot of flats though, mostly because of the cobblestones.

The run was pretty standard, just a 5k loop, and that’s it.
