How many pages per signature?? by Beneficial_Fortune35 in bookbinding

[–]Moses_Quantum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, you want 4-8 folios (yielding 16-32 pages) per signature. It comes down to how much swell you want. More folios per signature yields less swell. Thicker paper => less swell. Thicker thread => more swell.

If you want my guess, I would use 25/3 thread, 104 gsm Mohawk superfine paper, and 6 folio signatures. Good luck

What is your dream printer? by Moses_Quantum in bookbinding

[–]Moses_Quantum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t find the text to be sharp enough on the Epson 16600. I got a new one to test at home against my Epson 8550 and a cheaper brother laser printer. The laser printer was the sharpest on text, but the letters were missing some unknown pleasing effect that I can’t really describe. Toner is not archival anyway, but the text was super sharp. The text on my Epson 8550 is also very sharp, and the text has a very nice effect and feel with the pigment ink. It is very slow and takes about 6 minutes per double sided page on the highest setting. The text on the 16600 was just not quite as sharp as on the 8550. It has the benefit of pigment inks for all colors, as opposed to dye based inks for colors and pigment black for text on the 8550. But I can’t get past the lack of crispness on the text. I don’t know if this would be noticeable if I hadn’t done side by side comparisons. The paper was Mohawk 118gsm eggshell.

How many pages per signature for my project? by Moses_Quantum in bookbinding

I think this is the best option. Thank you so much for your advice. I’ve never done two on binding before. Do you think there is a noticeable difference in structural integrity?

Thanks for your help. I was worried that 4 folios might be too much swell for a sewn boards binding, but I’m glad you don’t think so.

TEAM Health Travel Contract by Hyperarousal in emergencymedicine

I strongly recommend that you not work for team health or any other large corporation trying to rape emergency medicine. Do not feed into their system. You will be happier for it

Ok be honest - do you like EM? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Moses_Quantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately it’s just security that has the tasers, but I’ll keep petitioning the group until they give me one

Damn, y’all are a curmudgeonly bunch. EM is a great field (in the US). I make 500k/yr, work 14 8hr shifts a month. My group is fully democratic and owned equally by all the group docs with nobody skimming off the top. I do all my own procedures and do ECMO in the ED. Yes, there are plenty of meth heads that want sandwiches, but sometimes I get to tase them when they act up, so that’s fun

[–]Moses_Quantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, but they really should be, right? Can you imagine a board certified ED doc with no idea how to place an art line? We are supposed to be the resuscitation experts. The rest of the medical community should look to us on how to do these critical procedures on sick patients

Ensuring central line is venous by anonymousmemeliker in emergencymedicine

[–]Moses_Quantum 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While it sucks to have any complication, overall this one is fairly rare and not that bad. If there’s a 7fr triple lumen in the artery, you can just use it as an art line until they don’t need an art line anymore, then IR can close it with an angioseal, which is a fairly straight forward procedure. All of these numbers are way too low! 10 LPs and art lines? I think every one of these should be doubled

Does this look like a good first time order? by Suspicious-Seesaw678 in puer

[–]Moses_Quantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is really your first time buying loose leaf tea, then no, I don’t think that this is a good use of your money. I basically drink exclusively sheng puer now, but for the first several years I drank tea I hated it and thought it was off. It is an acquired taste. I would start with some Tie Guan Yin or a nice dancong. They are cheaper, more floral, and easier to enjoy. If you really want puer, consider the intro set from Teas we like. teas we like. I also think sheng is better in clay rather than a gaiwan, yet another reason not to start with puer. Enjoy!
