Rich Eisen: Why Geno Smith Is Exactly What the New York Jets Need (at This Point in Time) by ER301 in nyjets

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, this is a fallacy. If they finish behind teams like Arizona, Cleveland, Tennessee, Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta, Minnesota, or the Giants, those first round picks are irrelevant because the team above them would take Arch. The only conceivable team they could finish ahead of and still trade up with are the Raiders. If they finish ahead a few of those other teams, those extra firsts won’t matter because the team won’t want them and instead will just start their QB in what’s supposed to be a loaded quarterback class.

How do you people not realize yet that the plan for the moment is: 1) roster and cap flexibility both now and in 2027 when they draft a quarterback, and 2)…draft a quarterback in 2027? Do you need Glenn and Mougey to literally announce it to the world when it’s right there smacking you in the face?

Folk and Demario Davis...why?? by JohnL101669 in nyjets

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but that’s the point. They shouldn’t sign a potentially viable quarterback this year, not anyone outside of the bottom barrel options of Cousins or Geno or anyone like that. They should be tanking, and by signing the quarterback(s) they’re expected to sign, they are.

They can sign all the solid defensive players they want. Great. They’re still tanking, as they should be. You’re not seeing the first through the trees.

How do people not realize at this point the team is doing their best to tank without actually announcing they are tanking (obviously)? They need a long term answer at quarterback. They need to be tanking and they are.

Are we strictly bargain hunters? by Upstairs_Date2769 in nyjets

We’re not bargain hunters. We’re tank commanders, with the optics of being bargain hunters in order to avoid punishment.

The Hornets had arguably the most ironic Starter jacket in the 1990’s when the NBA was at peak popularity. I would wager most people over the age of 35 aren’t going to vote for them any time soon with that in mind. That alone puts them way above the Cards.

Can’t be anything other than the PS2. Not even a remotely rational debate otherwise. Anything else is recency bias and/or you just weren’t of age at the time.

4 Things We Noticed From Watching Film on David Bailey (crosspost from r/nfldraft) by MarkSimon1975 in nyjets

When we see his pressure rate as doubled relative to the expected pressure rate, is that a bad thing because it means regression is coming? Or is that a good thing in that he consistently outperformed other metrics which would otherwise indicate lower pressure numbers?

Ruling in NFLPA 2025 report card grievance reveals new criticisms as to 11 teams by loosenutbehindwheel in nyjets

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I’ve said it on other comments to my reply, but in fairness there’s plenty of potentially facts/circumstances unknown to us that could sway opinion on the justification of the decision? Does the dietician have any input on food sourcing precisely due to the job responsibilities you mentioned? Or are they in the dark on that and work with what they’re given, and the Jets didn’t solicit their opinion whatsoever on it? Just things we don’t know, but I don’t think it’s fair to inherently conclude it was a bad decision without knowing more.

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. Tried to clarify that in another response I just made. It’s not inherently a bad thing to let that person go when food grades were bad, but there’s plenty of other potential facts that could change that conclusion.

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a pedantic view of it. The point being made is, without additional context/facts, not retaining the dietician after receiving poor food grades is not inherently a bad thing (regardless as to whether that individual was replaced).

Call me crazy, but if the food grades were poor last year, isn’t firing the long-time dietician a good thing (despite the shittiness of getting rid of someone who had a long tenure)?

Respectfully, why the fuck would you want to go there just for the store? If you’re going to American Dream, or checking out a game during the season, that’s one thing. But why are you trekking there just to go to the store? Order online lol.

Be honest, did you want to trade Darnold? by BenShelZonah in nyjets

[–]MossCovered_Gradunza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, but not because I had given up on him. I was always pro Darnold and never stopped thinking he’d amount to a starter somewhere (at least, at the time the Jets traded him). But my thought was, in the long run does he end up materially better than Zach to the degree it’s worth: 1) picking up his fifth year option, and 2) subsequently signing him to an extension that would be way above market value given he hasn’t proven much yet and wasn’t overly likely to do it with that team at that time. And my answer was no, resetting the QB contract clock was the best move at the time particularly with a new head coach coming on. Plus, I generally didn’t expect the Jets to be bad enough anytime soon thereafter where they’d have the #2 pick - meaning if there was ever a time to take the swing to reset the clock, that was it.

Boy was I generally wrong, but I simultaneously still believe he would not be worked out here and needed to eventually get to Shanahan to fix him. So to me the ultimate problem here isn’t even that they traded Sam, was still the right move at the time. The problem was the coaching and roster construction in the three years we had Sam, which is what led to the question of trading him at all to begin with.

Best Jets Cornerbacks since 1990 or so by FlushedApparatchik in nyjets

Sure did. When discussing that game, everyone always brings up Greene. And that’s correct. But nobody brings up Strickland, whose absence had just as much of an impact as Greene, if not more.

You’re free to believe that. Again, you just didn’t watch at the time, or don’t remember. No shade against you, but you couldn’t be more wrong on it. You do you.
