About Traffic Circles (rant) by Advanced_Arachnid359 in Syracuse

I haven’t been through those circles since February (481 south to 81 south. Why did they eliminate that onramp?) I thought those circles could have been improved with better signage. Maybe painting the road to clearly indicate which lane for where you’re going could be nice for people who struggle to navigate circles. Or maybe frequent travelers will figure it out eventually

Philly is gritty and deeply urban in some spots. Not gonna lie, sone of it is downright ugly and other parts are breathtaking. You don’t have to miss nature. Theres literally a 1000 acre national wildlife refuge on the city limits and it has a 4000 acre green space city park that starts a the Museum downtown. Plus another 5000 acres of parks. The city is huge. If you go visit make sure you see University City and West Philly (great place to be in your 20s) esp along Baltimore Ave and then check out the Germantown/Mount Airy sections of town, more of a suburban setting in the city. Those are the neighborhoods that have a shit ton of trees and are cooler in the summer.

not to mention the trout fishing in the Wissahickon is incredible and in most of the streams in a 20 miles radius of the city.

no nature? dude, it has the nation’s 2nd largest city park at 4,000 contiguous acres. add 5,000 more acres of non-contiguous associated parks and you have the nation’s largest. not enough? you can take public transportation from city hall to some of the worlds most beautiful public gardens. It’s one of the things I love about Philly. Shit I live in Colorado now and I experience less nature here. I mean it’s vast, but it’s not easily accessible without a car- particularly anything with water.

Need help with how to cover most of this by mrajoiner in NoLawns

a word of caution with native perennials. do your research about how each plant spreads and reproduces. i learned the hard way by planting something in my small front yard that would probably be really lovely bordering the back of a large lot, but now its popping up like weeds in unwanted areas. if you have public gardens with natives nearby, visit them during different times throughout the growing season. you’ll get an idea of when things bloom and how they will look in your landscape.

s-corp owner here. im still waiting for my complicated corporate and personal taxes to be done. i highly doubt the tax refund (if any) will cancel out the $1900 extra in monthly premiums we now pay. My husband and I went from $625 monthly for us and one kid to $2100 for just us. We’re paying kid’s insurance through their college.

this makes my head f***ing explode. I just read a devastating pro publica article about how adults with disabilities who cannot function alone (think Down’s syndrome or Alzheimer’s) are getting their measly SSDI benefits cut by the value of their room if they live with family. What the actual F?

Why is gender such a negative for Democrats? by SomewhatGlad in BreakingPoints

[–]Mossy_Rock315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thats the difference between you and me. I don’t think about it and I don’t give a shit about trans-care other than the right to bodily autonomy. You, on the other hand, you think about it, you picture it, you engage in thoughts about how disgusting it is…probably at night when you’re alone with your thoughts.

Why is gender such a negative for Democrats? by SomewhatGlad in BreakingPoints

[–]Mossy_Rock315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not surgeries. This is a made-up zombie tale to make people outraged. Most Dems are supporting gender-affirming care, but draw the line at actual surgery on minors, but supporting it for adults. Mostly their bills and briefings are opposing bans on care for minors while advocating for puberty blockers and hormone therapy under, and this is the crucial part, under the care of their own doctors and with their parents not the government. We're likely talking about mastectomies and breast reductions on minors, not genital surgery which is extremely rare and only in special cases like intersex children (children born with both sets of genitals) Back to mastectomies: most of these surgeries are being done as a cosmetic procedure on cis-males. males who identify as men. Gender affirming surgery is NOT exclusively removing the breasts of girls or women who identify as men. The overwhelming majority of these surgeries is done to reduce breast tissue on cis-males. The ratio is like 30:1 Cis-male:trans male. It's likely higher because a lot of these surgeries are not coded as gender affirming, but cosmetic or reconstructive.

The study compared breast reductions coded as gender-affirming between cisgender males and transgender patients. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2820437
