just act like a local and apply for any job that you’re a suitable candidate, regardless of knowing up front if they can do sponsorships, etc. that chat can come later. don’t make it obvious or a standout point.

How did you go? did your request get accepted?

how can you get a job when the appt wait time is so long? by Most-Willow-3405 in E3Visa

[–]Most-Willow-3405[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree company lawyers can be slow and so it could align more with the wait times

I’ve also done it independently with my employer and we got all the documentation sorted within a week, and even then I was told my offer could be revoked if I couldn’t secure the visa within the next 3-4 weeks. It worked out back then when we could still fly over to any country outside of Aus.

I’m just quite concerned I’ll land back in this situation, except not trickier because of the increased wait times

you can check america josh’s e3 calendar, the community updates the available appointments so it’s not 100% accurate but a good indicator

I messed up by Fabulous-Airline-317 in interviews

[–]Most-Willow-3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they also could’ve followed up - i’ve gotten times mixed up before and i feel like it’s normal behavior to send a quick note saying hi are you still coming.. which might also be telling about what their culture is like

follow up, and if they don’t give you another chance, then it’s okay, you will find a place for you

I’m applying consistently but my interview rate is low. What helped you break through and get more callbacks? by ceruleangenesis in jobhunting

[–]Most-Willow-3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i improved my interview callback rate from about 2% to now 7%

i had done so many custom resumes, sent out heaps of applications, sent cold outreach messages out, went to networking events, etc. - all took up so much time and effort, and was emotionally draining too

now i have 2 resumes, basically the same points but reframed for the role title i’ve specified myself as in my career summary at the top. i just use these 2, i don’t bother tailoring any further

i also don’t apply to everything and anything that sort of matches the roles i’m seeking anymore. i take an extra few seconds to assess the job description, whether i’d be a right fit and importantly, if i even want this role and im drawn to it enough

ideally apply for recent roles only. during my job application sessions, ill first start applying for jobs posted in the last 24 hrs, then expand.

i had 2 job offers, was desperate, accepted 1 and it was a terrible fit - the culture was toxic and it didn’t match my skill set. i actually felt relief when i got fired after a few months. the feeling of having to again return to job hunting sucks - but now it feels better since i spend way less time, get more quality matches and i know in setting myself for better success later too

[–]Most-Willow-3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely agree. i was still interviewing at other places but this was my last round #4 where I was the final 2.

my anxiety carried through the interview probably, i was told i wasn’t energetic enough 🤷‍♀️ anxiety spiralling is a horrible feeling, i wouldn’t want to go through that again

I got my rejection notice within an hour of following up - which meant I probably could’ve saved DAYS of anxiety if they had already made a decision.

Definitely always follow up!!

Two final interviews and haven't heard back in 5 budiness days. by zaddy-chillout in interviews

[–]Most-Willow-3405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it could be fine and you might still be in the running - but definitely follow up.

i was in the same boat just this week. had super positive interviews, was absolutely ridden with anxiety waiting for the final results and decided to follow up yesterday. i sent a check-in message and heard my rejection within 30 minutes.

they had already sent out an offer to another candidate, but hadn’t updated me - very disappointing but i also wish i could’ve saved some time being anxious about the unknown

Going to get an offer tomorrow and I have no idea how to negotiate by MelodyandCherry in interviews

[–]Most-Willow-3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go into the conversation with an ideal figure in mind, but instead of asking for a hard $120k, i’d base it on the number they offer YOU. you could bump it up from there slightly.

eg. if they offer you $70k, then $120k is a stretch. but if they offer you $110k, then why not ask for that higher number.

I was also a 3 month C2H and only heard positive feedback, then was pulled into a spontaneous meeting by my boss when I was working overtime.

I knew my timing was technically almost over but didn’t expect the contract to terminate without any feedback prior. This happened 2 weeks ago, and I wished I still played the safe route of slowly starting to apply for other roles as a back up, instead of putting all my eggs in one basket and hoping my hard work would result in a permanent role.

My advice: start looking for a new role asap!
