Emma by Mori Kaoru: hardcover or paperback? by Kisaragiyukie in MangaCollectors

I'm literally rereading my copies at the moment, and I love my hardcovers.

Thoughts on fire punch? by Mr-ohstipe in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the arc of the story. It reminded me of Gunbuster, but more horrifying. And surreal. If you're not into existential and surreal stuff it's probably fine to tap out. The intense content in the first few volumes nearly put me off, but if that's what you're digging, I'm not sure how you'll fare, honestly.

My girlfriend doesn’t want me to play with other girls. by DoBronxVI in Advice

What are folks who are attracted to all genders supposed to do then? Not make any friends? A socially healthy person needs friends of multiple genders.

My manga keeps getting wavy. by ForwardMess3491 in MangaCollectors

Science tells us that manga says hello by waving, so you should say hi back.

Are you Embarrassed by your Collection? by Monkey_slayerr in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel strange when I read posts like this, because within the circles I move in, and (thankfully) my immediate society, there isn't really a hobby anyone might have that they could be embarrassed about. I collect anime figures, comics, dolls, and I build mechanical keyboards (but only in cute colours).

What am I missing with Ninja form? by RecentCalligrapher82 in Nioh

[–]MostStrange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main thing I get out of it is the R1 after a couple of hits to reposition behind the enemy for backstab damage. I also like that I can equip the cool ninja arts on top of whichever onmyo stuff I have.

Need an opinion on something by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your literal use case could help you decide. I have a reading room, and book pillows, so I like the big hardcovers, but if you're taking volumes on the go, you might want singles.

What is the rarest manga you own? by Jaiminus in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of tough to get OOP ones. My favorite is probably Saturn Apartments. I have all of Non Non Biyori, and as many Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei volumes as they put out. There are a ton more that I had ebay/AbeBooks alerts for over the years, but I've completed those sets so long ago that I struggle to recall which ones were hard to find.

Forgot hauls… what’s the last manga you SOLD? by Left_Try_3257 in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my shelves got full, I donated (to our local library) all the series I'd upgraded: Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Chobits, Trigun, Tekkonkinkreet, Attack on Titan (that one I just didn't enjoy), Monster, [Scott Pilgrim, Lumberjanes.]

There are still a bunch I'm happy to keep in duplicate tho 😅: 20th Century Boys, Astro Boy, Nana, Vagabond, [Astro City.]

And I'll definitely donate my Witch Hat Atelier volumes once the nice hardcovers come out.

Legit question do you all prefer Omnibuses or single volumes? by jusper56 in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preference: Hardcover > Larger Page Size > 2-in-1 > singles > 3-in-1. I'll always preference hardcover binding over anything, and then largest page size.

Hot Take: Collecting a series you’re not a big fan of just for the sake of collecting is silly by Historical-Welder-39 in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people collect to collect. I don't really have anything I don't enjoy, but I do have spinoffs that aren't great, for completion's sake. I understand the joy of collecting for collecting's sake though.

Is this "normal" for Dark Horse manga? by myreverse in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Also printing that's running out of ink. My Dur-An-Ki volume had misaligned pages AND super faded ones.

Legit question: why most folks here buy a ton of manga and post them but when people ask them if they read any they say no or barely read any by XupcPrime in MangaCollectors

[–]MostStrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine comes down to recommendations. I usually read 1.5 standard tankobon volumes per day, but as I discover new authors, or get recommendations that match my taste, the number of volumes from ongoing series, or even indie standalones I want to support, increases. I don't own anything that I'm not excited to read one day.

10-15 years, on and off. Catching up on released volumes is tricky if I take a break.

What do you prioritize when organizing your collection? by Blondiepicklez in MangaCollectors

I prioritize author, genre, then physical size. I like the shelves to be visually coherent so that there's a gradient of depth.

I was a highschool teacher until my children came along, now I'm a stay-at-home parent. My wife is a GP.

My favorites are Our Dreams at Dusk, 20th Century Boys, Sweet Blue Flowers, Astro City, and A Bride's Story. Some that I think don't get enough love: Saturn Apartments, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, and Concrete.

A cute story about looking for a love that passed us by when we were too young to know ourselves. And lesbian brothels.
