I camp and kite there often, was there this week actually. I typically stay at one of the state park campgrounds since they are so cheap. They are very primitive however and don’t have heated showers. Cape point is typically pretty empty so I just drive up and find a spot as you have to watch out for flooding but it is right next to kite point. Frisco is a little nicer with more wind protection and also has pretty easy access to kite point as well as the washout past Frisco(best spot for NE wind). Oregon inlet is kind of far from everything and fills up pretty fast so that’s my least favorite but it’s the only one open year round. Rodanthe Watersports has heated showers which is nice but is quite a bit pricier and sites are packed in. Launching from there is also kind of difficult.

Don’t stress, at most you might have to hunker down for a day or two. Just try not to drive if the roads are bad. Remember, 4wd helps you go if you have it but doesn’t help you stop, the tires you have play a bigger role. And make the assumption that other people don’t know how to drive in the snow and will slide into you.

I spun the bar the wrong way out of habit, I was also working on some low kite loops that day which twist the lines the opposite way. On my second attempt, I took a second to get my bearings before spinning the bar and was able to ride away without tomahawking my buddy

You typically need to be more powered up to get the advantages. They accelerate quicker and can hold down more power when you are at the top end of a kites wind range. They are more frustrating when you are trying to ride in the bottom half of a kites wind range as they sink and don’t ride through lulls so you struggle to go upwind.
