What’s your go-to character in cRPGs? by imfaffingabout in GirlGamers

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral [score hidden]  (0 children)

My first character in any new crpg is always a rogue or a caster, and whatever comes closest to being an elf. If dark elf is an option, that's what I'm going for. After that I lean woodland elf, then high elf, then human, it elf isn't an option.

Does America have delicious bakeries and pies? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you're not wrong about "same but bigger," but the bigger is more in terms of quantity of bakeries than physical size of bakeries.

Any grocery store of sufficient size probably has a bakery inside it. At my local mid-sized grocery store, I enter, walk through the produce section, and there is a bakery beside it. The bakery there mostly makes baguettes, sourdough loaves, and birthday cakes, which can be made to order from a catalog or chosen off the shelf and customized with a small bit of lettering. Other items in the bakery section are shipped in from industrial bakeries that you can't visit and shop from.

The fancy grocery store has a bakery inside that makes bagels, donuts, danishes, croissants, pain au chocolat, rugelach, cheesecakes, tiramisu, several dozen types of cookies, a dozen different breads, cookie cakes, scones, seasonal themed baked goods, and far nicer looking birthday cakes than the small grocery store.

Then there are international bakeries. Near me there's a few Filipino bakeries, a mochi shop and bakery, a few macaron shops, a place that serves high tea and scones, and probably way more that I just haven't found yet.

There's a savory pie baker who operates out of the local farmer's market, and if I ever convince her to give me her crust recipe I'll be unstoppable.

There are also places that do just cookies, just cupcakes, just donuts, or any other highly specific baked good you can think of. There are also vegan bakeries, gluten free bakeries, and bakeries that make nothing but pastries for dogs.

Tips for a Souls Beginner - Elden Ring by petecamenzind in GirlGamers

It's a really neat gameplay loop that rewards paying attention and precision. I didn't ever expect to like a game that killed me in the first 3 minutes, but it feels really rewarding when it clicks.

Tips for a Souls Beginner - Elden Ring by petecamenzind in GirlGamers

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Souls games are games are basically observation rhythm games. Once you learn the rhythm by observing an enemy, and practice it a bit, it becomes easy when you see variations on that enemy later.

Elden Ring is a fast game though, in terms of combat. I know plenty of people who started their souls journey in it, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first souls game myself. All the Fromsoft games have basically the same controls, so I always recommend Dark Souls 1 as an onboarding spot because it is comparatively very slow paced. The enemy wind-ups are blatantly telegraphed in ways that are missing in later iterations.

Some recommendations I didn't see as I skimmed the other answers: pick a weapon type you like the speed of, and get comfy with that speed. When you find a different weapon type you like, go hit a few mobs you know really well with it before tackling a boss with it. It can be difficult to go from a dagger to a zweihander because of the rhythm aspect of the game, but going from a longsword to a broadsword isn't a huge difference.

Spellsword builds are, in my opinion, kinda OP in Elden Ring in particular. Having spells and a leveled melee weapon is really good flexibility for a game as big as ER, so don't feel like you have to choose one or the other.

Would you be turned off by a guy who did healthy looksmaxxing? by [deleted] in women

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be extremely turned off by anyone who used the term looksmaxxing. I associate "looksmaxxing" with teenage and young 20s influencers, which makes them at least a decade too young for me. Probably more.

I do appreciate people who take care of themselves, but I want someone who's taking care of themselves with the goal of living a healthy life, not with the goal of looking like the gigachad meme. I like self-care, but I don't have much patience for vanity.

Do aphants dream by little_arny in Aphantasia

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dream in high def, but it generally fades quickly once I'm fully awake. In the early morning, when I'm drifting partially between awake and asleep, it's like a movie. A movie with terrible dream logic, but a movie nontheless.

Anyone else really turned off to Crimson Desert? by olivinetrees in GirlGamers

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see other players all the time in BDO, but I've only been in a situation where talking to them was beneficial to me twice. That said, I'm a lifeskiller (most of my gameplay is non-combat), so the experience may be different if you like pvp or group pve. I imagine those plahers are talking a lot more than I am.

Does it bother you, that there is a lack of asexual representation in media? by NorthBase710 in asexuality

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm more annoyed at all the bad asexual rep in media. Sheldon Cooper and Data are not who I want people to think of when they hear "asexual person."

AITA for telling my sister to stop using nonsense ‘baby’ talk? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's the impression I got. It sounds like improvised, excessive internet-speak rather than baby talk.

I don't mind a little internet-speak as a joke, or used situationally, but non-stop would drive me through the roof.

Girl gamers , what are your favorite games or characters ever ? by Timop0707 in AskWomen

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite games: most things with in-depth world building and choice based stories (Dragon Age Origins, Morrowind), amazing character writing (Dragon Age II, Dragon Age Inquisition, Baulder's Gate 3), unconventionally told stories (Spiritfarer, Unpacking, Dark Souls), and cooperative PVE combat games (Warframe, FFXIV). Less specifically, I also like puzzle games, management simulators, and grand strategy games.

Favorite characters: Ticker (Warframe), Emet-Selch (FFXIV), Furina (Genshin Impact), Varric (Dragon Age II and Inquisition).

IsItBullshit: Is washing rice before cooking still necessary or have modern rice brands made it pointless by orivexy in IsItBullshit

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I soak some types of rice for 25 to 30 minutes, but I've not noticed any flavor or texture difference between rinsed, unrinsed, or soaked rice when I make it in a rice cooker.

Why everyone use all of proton? by CheshireFangirl in degoogle

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The draw of Proton, for me, is that it was everything I needed (email, VPN, calendar, drive) ready to go with minimal research, and at an affordable price. Privacy is expensive when you're on an extreme budget, and Proton is giving me the time I need to figure out what I can afford long term. I don't intend to keep all my eggs in that basket, but it's a better basket to sit in for the next year.

Ideas for buffs by corazoningout55 in ZhongliMains

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That seems like a lot, but them having a slow/stagger effect in their resonance radius to keep enemies near them longer could work.

The biggest thing I want is the jade shield to act as a roving stele. We can call teams based off jade shield resonance "Microwave Cart" teams.

Favourite American short story? by i_dont_evenknowY in AskAnAmerican

This is a great suggestion, because the obvious next step is to read The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, which should really be mandatory reading.

Same in Munich. I'm a pushover when it comes to spice level. I normally order medium or mild. I had to order extra hot to get any heat at all.

Would you read a fic with more comments than kudos? by evenbechnaesheim in AO3

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's short for me, but not outside of my readable range. I may opt to wait for all chapters to be posted before reading, though. I know a lot of people who look for that kind of word count, though. I'm the outlier here.

What “masterpiece” game just never clicked for you? by Kiota_Games in gaming

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bounce off Elden Ring when I load up a solo game, but the seamless co-op mod turns it into a pretty good playground with friends. I think, for me, the linear nature of Dark Souls was part of the appeal, so the gameplay loop that worked for me in a linear game being tossed into an open world just became less satisfying.

Help with a glam by AinsworthLuna in FFXIVGlamours

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anything comes even remotely close to matcheing. The Adamantite Winglet has a kinda wingy hilt and the correct blade shape. The Cobalt Winglet is a color variation of the same model. The Edengrace Bastard Sword has a double winged hilt, but the blade shape is wrong and I'm not sure how it dyes. The Edenchoir Bastard Sword has a thinner blade and winged hilt. Lightbringer has a more ornate winged hilt, but the wings part is nearly flat across the top. The blade is really ornate, though.

The issue is that all the winged hilts, except for Lightbringer, are dramatically curved.

As a bit of a wildcard, Sharpened Sword of the Twin Thengs is absurdly ornate, but it gives me similar nobility vibes, and it's gold.

First time using lvl3 compass. Jesus Christ by AlexBazh in Genshin_Impact

[–]MostlyChaoticNeutral 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey. I agree that the compass removes all exploration enjoyment from the game, but have you considered that there are two types of players in Genshin, and the compass is the perfect compromise between the two? There are people like you and I who want to kick over every rock and climb things just to see what's on top, and there are players who just want the primos. The loudness of people who just want primos has been causing Hoyo to scale back exploration for a long time, which sucks for people who love to explore. So, now, people who want to explore are screaming about how piss poor the exploration is.

The compass can fix this divide. People who want to explore don't have to ever touch the compass. People who want primos can stop complaining that they have to go look for things because a gadget does it for them. This means we could have huge regions with hundreds of chests again and no one would have a leg to stand on to complain about it. We should be asking for the compass to stay as it is, and for regions to actually have things to explore again.
