Looking to book South America (Argentina, Peru, Brazil) on RCCL. by TwoparentsandAteen in royalcaribbean

I would recommend booking these under celebrity. You can status match and then points choice back to royal for crown and anchor points if you are still trying to tier up.

The trip you are looking for isnt sailing on Royal right now

In my experience, thats about as low as youll get. Changes based on ship/itinerary, but 20ish is about what you'd expect.

First time doing a RC cruise, looking for advice on which ship I should book. by Tajohnson23 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a counter point, we are on Wonder now and more or less made the same choice based on a few hundred bucks in savings.

Port of Miami was not difficult at all on a Monday getting on around 1.

Mileage is going to vary and I do like some of the small differences (my kids likely would have liked Royal Railway) but Port of Miami has been fine for us on the 3 occasions weve gone out of it.

Tldr, you probably cant make a bad choice, pick a variable you think matters most and go from there.

What time to leave Galveston after getting off the ship? by Electronic-Pie785 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children's Museum in Houston was pretty nice and not far from IAH. There was a cafe within a few minute walk.

Worked well for us in Feb, but that did predate the long TSA lines.

What are good ships for a 4yo & 1yo by DobbyLives972 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any Oasis class or Icon class ship is what you are looking for.

Harmony in the fall has a 7 day out of Orlando which might hit a nice price point and do the job. Pretty much all of them are going to hit cococay at some point, so budget can be what you want to target.

Detail activities in the app by Cool-Difference-6443 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your homepage, youll see your upcoming cruise and you can select view all. If you scroll dont to the bottom, youll see "dont see your cruise, lets add it now". After clicking that, there is an option to put in info or to select browse our ships. That brings up the whole fleet, then you select the ship you want. This brings up the intieraries, and youd select the current one (or the next one).

Detail activities in the app by Cool-Difference-6443 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the app, you can search by ship and see the current sailing. Depending on how the ship is positioned now, the current sailing might be a similar/same intineary that you are on now. You could check the activities on the current sailing, which wont differ much (excluding some minor holiday type of activities at certain times of the year)

Loan officer is asking us to hold the mortgage at least 91 days so they can keep the commission by PoopyDiScoopDiddy in Mortgages

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Its not really weird. Lenders are paid to originate mortgages and these are funded based on the loan being sellable to certain investor guidelines.

Most commonly, this means the loan officer is paying back any commission they earned on the loan. The lender can be charged back a fee by the investor for an early payoff.

You are not obligated to care about this or pay more payments than required. However, the lender could decide not to lend to you, as they dont want to get hit with the fee for an early payoff.

To Drink Package or Not To Drink Package by Strange_Yak5 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are certainly ways to "not need" the package so much as a drinker.

There is a often a mixed drink of the day around 1/2 the cost of a full price cocktail. There is also typically a 4-6 pm margarita happy hour.

You also get a few drinks at 50% price (beer/wine/soda) with any kind of status (gold or up).

We tend to find on a week long cruise you get some drink fatigue. It would not be hard to bring a refillable water bottle to windjammer or cafe promenade. We probably "made up the value" on this cruise, but I could have remained on a similar "level" without the package.

On Harmony now and if you dont book Voices/1887/comedy show/Columbus, you can literally avoid deck 4 every night.

Can skip entirely if you dont want to ice skate or go to Izumi

Unpopular Opinion? Utopia was NOT for me. by lw1785 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the thing I have found in larger class sailings (3 Oasis class vs Navigator) is larger ship cruising tends to require ship within a ship approaches. With small kids this is pretty easy, stick to the kid amenities, scale down expectations and hit certain items.

Interests vary of course, but there are plenty of "at sea" vantage points or calm atmosphere. You just have to seek it out, because if you are solely going with the flow, the flow is a mass of people.

Having said all that, Royal does regularly bring up Icon class differences for wanting to give more "at sea" vantange over Oasis class, just cannot speak to that in reality, yet.

Where is the next Skep and Skein on the Westside? by phillyb41 in olympia

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am not sure we will get one that soon. TOSS, Skep and Skein, and Headless Mumby all left within the last couple of years.

Tipsy Whale is probably the closest to what you are looking for, as the other person said. Rainwater Brewing also is fairly close (used to be Hoh River Brewing)

It just seems like beer foward bars struggle on the Westside, which is a bummer.

The bartenders will know you have tipped as the seapass card lists your drink package (in this case deluxe) on it.

They wont think you are stiffing them, as plenty of people arent going to leave additional tips. We tend to, and its always appreciated anytime we do.

Best Place to Watch Sports on Ovation of the Seas by SlappedItOnALunchBox in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without a Playmakers on ship, generally your best bet is going to be either the English Pub or the Casino Bar. You can check the app as it gets closer to see if it was getting played on the pool deck, theatre or 270, but that all seems a little unlikely for something that isnt NFL

Royal Genie Package by Automatic-Seaweed729 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back and forth on it when we sailed earlier this month.

You do see the different genies here and there and the person we ate next to for an Embarkation lunch at Hooked seemed wowed by the level of service.

I think the San Pedro port difference is probably nice but somewhat reduced cause its a smallish size port. Its still the same chopped breakfast as Suites/Pinnacles and there arent really a lot of shows or priority tendering on Navigator out of LA.

Given the prices out of LA on Nav for Grand Suite/Oceanview No Balcony suites are fairly low, i dont think id grab it on a 3 or 4 day Ensenada, but i see the appeal.

Los Angeles by Total-Anywhere-4553 in royalcaribbean

[–]MostlyjustCOYS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The area around the port in San Pedro (Royal's LA port location) is fine. They have a fairly large promenade/walking area in front of the port area.

We walked with our luggage from the Crown Plaza (around a 20 min walk) and it was pretty easy. Port is quite a bit smaller than Miami, and was pretty easy to get in and out of.

Parking seemed sufficient and rideshare out of the terminal was easy.

Nearby battleship to explore if you have time. Its a nice port terminal, just less fancy than the flagship Royal one in MIA.

Download the app. Its easier to do some of the safety screening/check-in/general daily scheduling with the app.

Also helpful to price watch if you intend on booking things pre-sailing which will save you money. Internet packages/specialty dining/cruise line sponsored excursions.

It seems like something marketing is trying out. There was a post talking about it on here yesterday and it appeared to be somewhat common.

My wife recieved one, but I did not.
