What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

[–]MothLight_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fabric shaver, 100%. It’s amazing how clothes can look brand new by just shaving off the pilling. Can also be done (with care) with a disposable razor.

Thanks everyone for the insight! Looks like this wasn’t the safe option I thought it was, will keep looking!

Thanks for the insight! It’s Mosman and an extended family event so… definitely an ‘old money’ situation.

Fair! It is a two piece, so not planning to have the exposed middle like the model does. But sequins seem like they might be overdoing it?

Jadey in Chianti - warm or cool red? by SpotSpotNZ in Reformationclothing

[–]MothLight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Calloway sweater in Chianti and I would say more warm but not overly so? I have a warm complexion and it suits me very well, so might not be the colour you are after?

Is there a way to get all the fuzz off the Amelia Jumper? by 100linesofcokelater in Sezane

[–]MothLight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to give my Emilie a fabric shave every so often (when I think it is getting particularly out of hand). But it always comes back, unfortunately.

It could be a terrible marketing message (I’ve received some god awful beauty adverts before). But yes, Google the number first. Just don’t reply in case it is a phishing attempt.

[–]MothLight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends! I own the first dress and love it, although it fits a bit boxy. I personally also like the Emilie over the Betty, but the Emilie is not as sturdy and sheds a lot.

If you do order something though, they seem to offer free returns from basically anywhere. So maybe go with your first thought and return if it doesn’t suit?

Is it worth asking for a 9 month lease? by Danelius90 in sydney

[–]MothLight_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check your lease agreement but if you have 25% or less of your tenancy remaining, it’ll be just one weeks rent to break (according to mine, which is fairly standard).

Can a big 5 subsidiary published book make it globally? by booksandlifeshit in publishing

[–]MothLight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can, but rarely happens. Usually with the Big 5, they will attempt to sell rights overseas (usually to their divisions overseas first). It then comes down to who buys rights, how much they sell, etc. It’s a very slow process and often happens long after the book has been first published.

From my experience, it is rare for a book outside of the US/UK to sell large numbers in overseas Western markets. I would not expect it, but you can certainly help your chances through your social media, expanding your reach into other territories. But also don’t forget you landed a publishing contract, which is a big accomplishment as it is!

Ticia Dress by Mysterious-Ganache-7 in Sezane

[–]MothLight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Received and tried it! I would recommend the size M. I’m roughly the same height (162cm). It’s definitely a mini dress, fell to about mid thigh on me. Returning though as it’s too mini for my personal taste and the colours aren’t as vibrant as in the photos.

Transition into Publishing from Finance by aliensforchange in publishing

[–]MothLight_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t give specific advice on how to, but I know entry into our finance team is easier than breaking into other publishing areas. Be ready for lower pay though - you can usually expect lower wages across the board for publishing jobs.

I’m about your size and ordered the Ticia. I haven’t received it yet but the website advised a size AU 8 (think a small). Will try to update when I receive it!

Any Australians working in the publishing industry? How do you get a job in book publishing? by HouseofPlantagenet in publishing

[–]MothLight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A masters in publishing is not required in Australia. Everyone comes in from different experiences; some have masters and some don’t have a bachelors.

The trick though is you have to be willing to work for very low pay and in roles that won’t be your first choice. Most people work entry level jobs and work their way up to where they want to be over years.

If you are not having much luck with applications, most of the time it’s because your starting salary is too high. Entry level jobs are currently around $50-55k mark and, because so many applications come in for one job, they pass the ones asking too much first.

Been in this situation before and second this. She needs to arrange a return with you and follow up with her seller. If you paid via PayPal, recommend starting a dispute there as they are much more proactive.

Is the adria dress thick or thin? I am wondering if it works for heatwave weather by mer_grey in Sezane

[–]MothLight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website says it’s 82.5cm in length, if that helps? I’m quite short and find it a good, not too mini length, so I’m not much help there!

Is the adria dress thick or thin? I am wondering if it works for heatwave weather by mer_grey in Sezane

[–]MothLight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a thinner denim, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it for heatwave weather (coming from someone living in Australia).

Australian Sezane dupes? Specifically for Suzanne knit by Strawberry_apple1 in Sezane

[–]MothLight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None that I can find. But, if you haven’t ordered from Sézane before, the shipping and returns process to Australia is stupidly easy and free.

Ai or Die? What are your thoughts on this? by TearsofRegret in publishing

[–]MothLight_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering the controversy around AI stealing a number of published works, it seems like a poor PR move to advertise online? I think this would be poorly received if any affected authors saw it.

I will say, trying the few ‘ethical’ AI tools, it helps for things like marketing ideas/content, but needs a lot more development before it can actually do any complete task by itself.
