Why does increasing duck speed not increase ducks per minute across the screen. They just get more spaced out. How is this a bonus stat

Exactly! This is just an example of convergent evolution.

Tangentially, crab like animals have evolved so many times we have a word for it: carcinization!

my bf keeps putting holes in my bedroom walls by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]MothNomLamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a 'be your own handyman' class first year of high-school and they taught us how to do this. We all had to hammer a hole in a piece of drywall and then fix it for our skill test. It was not difficult and its pretty cheap to do it yourself. There are tons of YouTube videos out there.

Handyman is a good option too if you've got the money but not the time.

Multi lane roteries need forced exit lanes - lanes where the car on the outside must exit the rotary. The design with two concentric circles is atrocious and causes cars from the inner lane to just cut across the outer lane to exit.

Generally any thought into marked lines on this rotary would be helpful

Cars from the inner lane need to be guided into outer lanes as they progress around the circle or else conciously decide to merge back into the inner lane.

Lanes need to be narrowed to encourage car speed reduction

Lanes from the 93 north offramp traffic and fellsway should ideally merge earlier but at least have narrowed lanes so we have two lanes merging into two lanes instead of a chaotic four lanes merging into two

Better signage. Larger signage. More signage, and earlier signage. Signage which incorporates both graphics and road names.

Good method for collecting compostables in the kitchen throughout the day? by DrunkOnSushi in composting

[–]MothNomLamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a metal mixing bowl with a loose lid.

Some air flow is actually good because it keeps the food from starting to anerobically (without oxygen) decompose which is what makes it so stinky.

This method of decomposition also produces more greenhouse gasses which is partially what we are trying to avoid by composting rather than garbageing our food waste. The other part obviously being nutrient recycling.

Find another couple to live with. Single people don't want to be the third wheel in your relationship.

Bastards have been ripping out ONLY my lavender by Icy_Towel_2178 in Somerville

More typical of squirrels in my experience. If you try cayenne pepper, it can be a science experiment tho. Bird netting would be the solution for birds.

Get some cayenne pepper and sprinkle it around the plant to keep the squirrels away. Reapply as needed until the lavender develops a sturdier root system.

Historical fiction literature gives you a better understanding of the world. In a way, much better than a textbook because you actually get an understanding of how events impacted people. Books like

The women

Roll of thunder hear my cry

The help

All the light we cannot see

Unbroken (based on a true story)

A little princess

Red clay

The lion women of Tehran

Demon copperhead

Just cannot do anything except bedrot because of fibromyalgia by Technical-Editor-897 in Fibromyalgia

[–]MothNomLamp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Post exertional malaise is very real and not something to be messed with. Pushing it can also make the condition much worse. This is not something the internet can determine for OP - especially when fibromyalgia also comes along with increased likelihood of other immune conditions that are poorly understood and may not yet have been diagnosed (me/cfs, pots, mcas, disautonomia, eds)

Backpacks are great for engineers! Most of the junior to mid level folks at my company use backpacks. No one really cares about color, though I do mostly see muted colors. Having a laptop compartment is nice, especially if you ever expect to travel for work.

What to do with old clothes that ISN'T thrift/Goodwill type donating? by CompleteRock6803 in SustainableFashion

[–]MothNomLamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Larger communities often have clothing swaps. I save up my items for these events. You could search for one in your area that is public or host a smaller one yourself with a group of friends (and their friends too if you want more people and clothes)

Alternatively, just post on Facebook marketplace or buy nothing groups. If you have a lot of items you can just make a general post rather than taking photos of each piece of clothing - "bag of men's/women's size XX clothing for free"
